I have long believed after years of reading Irish history that the tragedy of the 1840s was the result of deliberate British policies.

The Truth must be told, there was no famine, it was a genocide

What brought the impact of this historical event to me was reading about the monument recently built in Ireland to honor the Cherokee Nation. As many of you may already know, the Cherokee's sent a financial contribution to the Irish people in the 1840's to help ease starvation they were experiencing. This gesture was made by a group who themselves experienced great hardship and loss of life at the hands of the US government. The similarities of experiences between these two peoples is striking.
Intentional genocide perpetrated by British occupiers and what Native Americans experienced at the hands of European colonizers and later the US government. Here it's been 500 years of colonization since Columbus. In Ireland, can it be said colonization begin 700 years ago with the Norman Invasion?
Calling for an apology from the British government for crimes committed against the Irish people.

It is a sad state of affairs that the British Government still have control of any part of Ireland after "What they have done". Very proud of the patriotic Irish people past, present and future.

My paternal grandmother's family left County Cork and emigrated to Canada during The Great Hunger. The British were most definitely trying to wipe out the Irish race at this time, as they had been attempting to do since the 1300's.

My grand parents both had to leave Ireland because of this, John Kiely and Elizabeth Bryson. The Limeys were determined to turn Ireland into Country Estates for Wealthy English. It went on for 300 years starting with Cromwell.

There is no reason or excuse for what happened to the Irish People starving when people with money and means sat at tables filling their faces and stomachs. Shame on all of those who participated in this atrocity.

My ancestors were some of the survivors during this period, in this day and age history should be accurate.

Hiding from the truth about our past does not help us to deal honestly with modern day problems.

My family was part of this Great Hunger. I have read so much about this time in history and I feel that it is about time to tell the real story.

why is the great hunger depicted on the quays in dublin with a dog?surely the poor animal would have been eaten by our starving ancestors.

I signed this petition to make others aware of the truth. The truth must be known! We owe this to our ancestors who went before us. Let no one ever forget the pain they had to endure..Watching your family die of hunger is beyond cruel. There was no famine! The Irish had successful harvests that were taken from them by the English/British thus creating the genocide!

Anyone who denies assistance to a person in danger commits a crime.
