I'm a black woman who is also a mother to a black son and I would love to see a positive change in and around the world.

alecia anderson (west palm beach, 2020-06-16)

#3

I’m signing because this behaviour is unacceptable and there should be consequences. The fact the it’s an older lady speaking to an underaged student the punishment should be extreme. The teacher and whoever allowed the apology should be held fully accountable by all means!!!!!!!!!! If this was my child the fight will NEVER end!

Chenelle Bailey (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#4

Very disgusted by such a behaviour coming from a grown woman who gets paid to be a “Teacher”. This is why the world is corrupt and hatred exists between humans.

Rachel Jeon (North York, 2020-06-16)

#6

This is not right as a black mother who has to raise a black child this will not be tolerated!

Menika Charles (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#7

As a mother, I will NOT let this stand!

Alteena Anderson (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#9

I’m signing because she should have never said the N word and an apology doesn’t excuse her actions. She is an educator she knows better.

Leasha Small (Whitby, 2020-06-16)

#10

Students especially Black students need a role models, not someone who does not care about them

Shanice Gayle (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#15

A white teacher should know better than to use the N word in a professional setting.

Deidra Dick (Milton, 2020-06-16)

#19

The behaviour of Anne is unacceptable and inexcusable, this calls for serious action . I’m hurt that in 2020 black people/children are still facing the same level of systemic racism and oppression

Sharon R (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#30

Tired of hearing of incidents like this with out any consequence. Sorry is not good enough. This teacher is teaching racism not only to her students but to her family and a children who have come in contact with her disgusting behaviour.

Rudy Leiva (Etobicoke, 2020-06-16)

#32

These behaviours are unacceptable and should be examples of what will happen. She needs to be let go

Xan Art (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

There's no place in our schools, this country or the world for racism

Claudette Thompson-Bell (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#37

Anne Stewart should not be teaching anyone. Period

Natasha Lewis (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#48

Enough is Enough

Wil Stewart (Ajax, 2020-06-16)

#50

I am an African American mother and no education professional should ever speak that word or any racist words when they are responsible for children of many different skin tones. She should be FIRED as soon as humanly possible.

Madison Chilvers (Atlanta, 2020-06-16)

#51

This is not acceptable!

Petrina Amuta (Ajax, 2020-06-16)

#52

As a Black educator who gives lessons on the N-word, I don’t even use it. There is NO excuse in 2020.

Sahvana Downes (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#53

I attended that school in 2003 to 2004. I too had faced racism from teachers and vice principals. Now that im older and have a voice i want to see change.

Chantellee Lindo (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#57

Because this is unacceptable behaviour and people need to be held accountable for their actions

Jan Ling (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#60

I am signing because there should be a zero tolerance to this kind of behaviour or any such racism

Raoul Mancini (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#61

I have a child and if this was said to her, I'd be furious.

Tonisha Graham (North York, 2020-06-16)

#62

There is no reason for Anne Stewart to continue a career in education. It’s 2020, and she is an ADULT! Hold her accountable.

Promise Adedijo (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#63

She should not be representative standing on behalf of society teaching our children.

Melissa Savery (Forest Laneway, 2020-06-16)

#64

It’s time we speak up & take action - this should NOT be tolerated!

Charlene Charlton (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#67

Ms. Stewart’s lack of critical thinking towards her student’s is unacceptable. How many more teachers are you going to allow them to commit psychological warfare on students?

Rose MItt (Markham, 2020-06-16)

#68

I’m signing because I strongly believe that you can’t possibly understand your role as an educator and still use this word!!! You should not have the option to keep your job.

Natasha Stewart (York, 2020-06-16)

#71

I'm signing because, it's time for a change and people need to understand that these things are not acceptable and have never been.

Shakerra Joseph (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#75

Adults in positions of power should be held to a higher standard of conduct, especially where children are concerned. The "punishment" doled out is an insult given the gravity of the offence.

Fese Elango (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#76

My 3rd grade teacher used this word in our classroom when teaching black history, a student asked what it was and she said “someone like Ashley” this incident stayed with me well into my adult years. I hadn’t heard or been called the N word before this day. But she gave me a label and my classmates started using it on me. Teachers like this need to be removed from our school system.

Ashley St John (Scarborough, 2020-06-16)

#77

I am offended and take exception to this teacher using the n word.

Lorraine Rose (Scarborough, 2020-06-16)

#78

Enough is enough!!

Mishka Taylor (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#81

This is disgusting and disrespectful and should not be allowed or downplayed she she should not be allowed to teach again an apology is not good enough and the principal she be fired as well because this she should have been terminated the minute it was brought to his or her attention

Jermain Jackson (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#83

Teachers should be educators of acceptance. They mold the minds of the future.

Shana Brown (Oshawa, 2020-06-16)

#86

IM A PROUD BLACK FATHER.

Jordan Williams (Toronto, 2020-06-16)

#89

This is ridiculous that there even has to be a petition to do what's right!!! Brampton Highschool should be ashamed of themselves!!!

Jermaine James (Oshawa, 2020-06-16)

#90

I am signing because I am a black woman with a black child entering the school system. I do not want anyone like that potentially teaching my child. This is ridiculous.

Tanisha Thomas (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#96

This is truly disturbing , using the n word , being a teacher , and knowing all the implications that word have and justify using it because you feel like a white Christian who identify to a different generation is truly disgusting and to top it off , she gets to keep her job without any consequences ... This screams white supremacy and white privilege all over ... The cum word is too much for this horrible teacher but the pejorative n word is okay !

So So (Montréal, 2020-06-16)

#97

How can a teacher talk like this. Its insane teachers are suppose to teach all the good things and avoid personal opinions during classes.

Mohammad Naim (BROSSARD, 2020-06-16)

#98

Absolutely inexcusable behaviour. Shame on those who accepted a mere apology. Unacceptable! Especially from someone who could potentially educate(using that term very lightly here) MY child!

Jodi-Ann Campbell (Brampton, 2020-06-16)

#100

I'm signing because it is the right thing to do. I bet she apologized because she was caught or the kid decided to report it. Fire her or assign her another position

Oliver Gasore (Toronto, 2020-06-17)

#109

I beleive in the cause

Yasmin Thomas (MISSISSAUGA, 2020-06-17)

#110

No more systematic racism being instilled into our children!!!

Britney Walker (Brampton, 2020-06-17)

#111

It’s importan we start teaching the youth of today the importance of racial justice. It starts with a word and ends with unfair death.

Silvya Rincon Gallardo (Tijuana, 2020-06-17)

#113

I work at the board and this is unacceptable for an educator.

Kea Hutchinson (Brampton, 2020-06-17)

#116

No one should ever feel comfortable using that word. That teacher got a slap on the wrist, which is completely unacceptable. Her behaviour from a prior reprimand was also unacceptable.

Lorena Azucena (Toronto, 2020-06-17)

#117

As a teacher and a black woman, I know the impact of words and representation on young people. She is not representative of this profession and keeping her on tells students who you care more about. Even in realizing she had offended her student she doubled down. Those aren't the actions of an ally.

Danielle Birkett (Mississauga, 2020-06-17)

#118

Something needs to be done. Using the N word is never ever ok and no explanation of why she used it ISN'T OK

Allison Kathleen (Toronto, 2020-06-17)

#124

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND
WE DEMAND HER REMOVAL FOR THIS DESPICABLE BEHAVIOR.
Our kids desire a safe, bias-free, racist-free environment to learn and grow. As a tax payer, I do not accept her apology. She should have been fired from day one period.

Nina Mckenzie (Toronto, 2020-06-17)

#125

That teacher abused her power in that situation. However, from social media, I gather she has been doing that for awhile. NO black child who is aware of their blackness will feel comfortable in her classroom. She needs to be fired, she is not remorseful at all. Teaching isn’t for her!!

Lavern Rowe (Ajax, 2020-06-18)

#126

her racism goes beyond this one incident

jzb moss (brampton, 2020-06-18)

#128

I went to this school and experienced Stewart’s racism first hand. The teacher is a piece of shit.

Disha Narula (Brampton, 2020-06-18)

#130

I used to go to this high school, it has had racist teachers for a long time and by keeping her employed your not solving a situation your making it worse. Considering the current world issues it’s definitely is not a good look! Canada is so racist and this further shows how racist they are.

Chantale Long (Guelph, 2020-06-18)

#132

I am a parent and I will not stand for teachers getting a slap on the wrist. She needs to be fired. Now.

Cassandra Johnson (Toronto, 2020-06-18)

#136

Racism is unacceptable behaviour. Anne Stewart should not be teaching our black. She has to go.

Janice Bushay (Brampton, 2020-06-18)

#139

This is absolutely ridiculous!!!! For a teacher who is responsible for teaching students to think it's ok and be comfortable with using that word is not okay!!!!!!!

Alayna A. (Brampton, 2020-06-18)

#140

Black lives always mattered and it’s about time the world started treating us as so; physically, emotionally, verbally, financially, psychologically and so on. Fire Anne Stewart. Unacceptable!!!

Alicia Bailey (Brampton, 2020-06-18)

#141

No white person should ever feel they have that much privilege to say that word. Let alone in a classroom where they are supposed to be teacher our future children.

Amanda Lunn (Shelburne, 2020-06-18)

#142

I attended Notre Dame. And wanted my children to. After listening that recording, it is no longer on the list of school for my family.

Damane Atkinson (Brampton, 2020-06-18)

#143

I am a black man who has experienced this from a high school supply teacher.

Tristan Peru (Guelph, 2020-06-18)

#144

This cannot be tolerated. Anyone who is so ignorant about the traumatizing effect of these words and the power imbalance between teacher and student should NOT be teaching. I hope she learns from this but it is more important to keep students safe from this conduct.

Bevin Shores (Hamilton, 2020-06-18)

#146

She can’t go unpunished. We need to make it known that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.

Gregory White (Toronto, 2020-06-19)

#148

I’m signing because using provocative language and racial slurs are never okay. But especially while this woman is supposed to be a positive leader to the students she teaches, she has made students feel unsafe and disrespected.

Jayda Lightfoot (Oshawa, 2020-06-19)

#152

Apologizing is no longer enough. It hasn't been enough for hundreds of years, time for change. 👋

Crystal LePage (Orillia, 2020-06-19)

#156

This needs to stop if not now when

Leisa Lewis (Oakville, 2020-06-19)

#159

Because she should not be allowed to teach if that is her mentality, this is a disservice and injustice to these children to allow her to around children and teaching. Teachers are supposed to mold children not hurt them

Natasha Robinson (Brampton, 2020-06-19)

#160

This makes me sick that a child had to experience this from a person they are suppose to look up too, respect and trust. Unacceptable.

Stefano Papadopoulos (Grimsby, 2020-06-19)

#161

I'm signing because we have a backlog of great teachers with intersectional teaching methods that are silenced by our school boards. Give them the job, please.

Laura Clark (Burlington, 2020-06-19)

#163

I'm an anti racist and a black man. Also a fellow supporter and activist!

Jesse Kelly (Hamilton, 2020-06-19)

#164

I'm signing as a proud mother to mixed race children. Children cannot be taught equally when someone has a belief as she does.

Kaitlyn Carter (Hamilton, 2020-06-19)

#165

Enough is enough.

sheldon charles (Brampton, 2020-06-20)

#166

There is no place for a racist teacher in the education system!

Tanya Clemens (Brampton, 2020-06-20)

#168

Signing to support the Black community, as NO Caucasian teacher should be making any student uncomfortable and continue to make a student uncomfortable after the student communicated she did not want to continue any further conversation with the teacher. No Caucasian teacher should feel comfortable saying the N- word. As a teacher she should be educated enough to understand word is offensive, let alone declare that you are comfortable with saying it. Everyone needs to be accountable for their actions just like all other professions. Police and teachers can never be....I wonder why?

Guiomar Godinez (Toronto, 2020-06-22)

#169

She is a teacher educating our children...I don't want her racist comments to be the norm...or taught to a new generation...we need to leave racist comments like this in the past

Norisa Charles (Brampton, 2020-06-22)

#172

I'm signing because the seriousness of the issue needs to be communicated and not be taken flippantly.

Colin Dryden (Mississauga, 2020-07-16)

#174

No teacher should be able to use ANY racial slurs and keep a job ..at the very least have them attend some form of training.

Nijah Scotland (Brampton, 2020-07-16)

#175

NO CHILD DESERVES THIS TREATMENT AT SCHOOL

Mackenzie Markle (Hamilton, 2020-07-16)

#176

she's a racist bitch that has no business teaching kids of any age

Amy smith (brampton, 2020-07-16)

#177

There is no reason to use the N word anywhere and in any context, let alone at a school. I demand that our educational system hold itself to a higher standard and start setting a positive example for our youth.

Daniel Wiebe (Kitchener, 2020-07-16)

#181

This is unacceptable!
If you don't see that, then you are part of the problem.

Justine Ritchie (Hamilton, 2020-07-16)

#182

Racism should not be tolerated in any way.

Jacqueline Fraser (Brampton, 2020-07-16)

#183

SHE SHOULD ALREADY BE GONE. WE MUST EXPOSE ALL THESE TEACHERS. THAT WORD SHOULD NEEEVVVVERRR BE USED. SHAME ON HER.

Amani W (Hamilton, 2020-07-16)

#186

We have to make a change

Rylie Cox (Shelburne, 2020-07-16)

#189

I'm signing this petition, because Enough is Enough! Why should her behaviour be accepted? She is being rewarded and permitted to keep her job with no consequences! What does this demonstrate to our children in the school system. That we make expectations, even when we know its wrong. This is the second incident that I am now hearing about, a principal in Brampton made a racial comment about a student and nothing was done. She (Margaret Wise-Hullmoth) was allowed to retire and live her life. These kinds of outburst cannot, should not and will not be tolerated!! It does not matter who you are, respect for each other must be shown. I was told years ago, when someone shows you who they are, believe them. Anne Stewart I believe you!!

Mellissa Faulknor (Etobicoke, 2020-07-30)

#190

Because this stupid teacher thinks there is a justified scenario where white people can use the N word and there ISN'T. And she shouldn't be allowed to educate our future generation of leaders.

Kristina Radosavljevic (Toronto, 2020-07-30)

#192

There’s no room for racism in a classroom.

Maria Yousafi (Brampton, 2020-07-30)

#196

You should not be allowed to use violent and harmful language especially as a non black teacher. There are several alternatives/censored versions that could have been said instead.
