Therapies with support of dogs are essential at all times and even more in times of lockdown to fight against Delano and other forms of lockdown related psychological effects...

Joma Karsten (Centurion Gauteng, 2020-05-24)

#21

It is imperative that the dogs get behavioural therapy and training. The longer they (and their people) have to wait, the more ingrained the problems become and more difficult to chsnge

Tersia Kock (Johannesburg, 2020-05-24)

I am a trainer and am already receiving lots of enquiries for training problems that need to be solved with qualified, in person assistance.

Tegan Stirk (Benoni, 2020-05-24)

I am extremely concerned about the growing number of puppies unable to access classes that are vital for healthy socialization and emotional development and the inability to effectively assist clients experiencing behaviour problems with their dogs due to the lock down restrictions which do not provide for or recognize dog training or behaviour work in any form at any of the lock down levels. People are surrendering dogs, because they are unable to get proper assistance at this time and we are going to see a flood of behaviour problems as time goes on in puppies denied access to puppy classes.

Taryn Blyth (Cape Town, 2020-05-24)

#30

I have clients who had to interrupt their training with their puppies due to lockdown. Some are experiencing behaviour problems with their puppies and I am unable to help effectively. My training classes are outdoors and social distancing was practiced long before lockdown was even thought of.

Kim Lennox (Cape Town, 2020-05-24)

I am a Professional Dog Trainer and Senior Accredited Companion Animal Behaviourist (ABC of SA). Not only do I need to work to earn a living as I'm not eligible to any government grants, but my knowledge and expertese is needed for animals that are suffering during this lockdown.

Michaela Lendowsky (Pretoria, 2020-05-24)

Dogs are stressed out by these abnormal times, and not getting enough exercise or brain stimulation. I, as a healthcare worker can only walk my dogs on the weekends, as I start work at 6.30 am. One of my dogs suffers from anxiety. He was doing so much better before lockdown, now he is extremely anxious again. We as dog owners need help with how to cope with them through these trying times. Please let them work.

Shereen Korpel (Cape Town, 2020-05-24)

I believe animal training is important to ensure the safety of people & animals as well as to prevent people placing animals in shelters due to behavioural problems that could be avoided with proper training.

Kimberley Leeuwner (Cape Town, 2020-05-24)

#65

I believe training animals is not only beneficial for the animal but also for the owner, which in these stressful times is extremely important. Furthermore most of our animal training facilities are outdoors, social distancing can easily be adhered to and I don’t know of any animal training school which has more than 50 people in their classes. It is certainly safer than going into the local supermarket, let alone any pharmacy.

Gaby Grohovaz (Johannesburg, 2020-05-24)

So many puppies are unable to get trained and socialised.

Sanet Roets (Pretoria, 2020-05-24)

#86

The above statement is nothing but the truth. Like humans behavior bieng affected from isolation the same as for dogs. The poor animal needs to be stimulated before all the frustration start flowing in and turning a good canine citizen into a beast. Please also take into consideration that our dog are our family. Its my child just like my human children. If something bad happens to any of them, it becomes a emotional disaster. Please consider this to happen only with well added safety precautions towards this unforgivable pandemic.

Elton Barkhuis (cape Town, 2020-05-24)

It is 100% in the animals well being! Humans have the ability to manage their stress levels, domesticated animals rely on us in times like these to do the same.

Tashua Hackland (Pietermaritzburg, 2020-05-24)

#178

As an accredited animal behaviour consultant and full time dog trainer, offering services that benfit both animals and guardians, I feel that many animals, who are loosing out on socialisation, remidial training, and behaviur consultants, are going to end up being abandoned, or dumped in animal welfare shelters, who are already over-burdened. I feel the services we offer, PREVENT a lot of animals ending up in the 'system'. I feel that this is a matter of urgency!

Louise Thompson (Benoni. Gauteng., 2020-05-24)
