#12014-03-30 20:34Firstly; Have you asked if it is "too tiring"? Secondly, the second that business actually comes before children and their education is when you realize just how ridiculous things have gotten lately. |

#32014-03-30 21:23The majority of foundation learners require a lot of mental stimulation. Stating that the five days a week system is 'too tiring' is just a get-out-of-jail card for not wanting to keep paying the staff for that amount of time. |

#62014-04-05 15:37Discrimination: The treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit. One and Suffolk County Council should be ashamed of themselves for thinking they could get away with this! |

#7 Three days in college per week2014-04-05 17:26Would just like to point out that mainstream students get 3 days tuition per week and have for years. The students are not banned from college for the other two days, which are actually fairly unlikely to be two whole days more likely to be a couple of afternoons and a couple of mornings, and can use the library, canteen etc. The issue for mainstream students, which will also be an issue for foundation students, is that there is no transport except for at the beginning and end of the college day. |

#9 Re: Three days in college per week2014-04-05 19:45#7: Rosie - Three days in college per week There is no support available for the foundation children if they come in for the two days they are not taught. This has been made very clear to parents.

#112014-04-05 19:57Disgusted with Suffolk one, they want the money for sen children but don't actually want them there |

#12 One2014-04-05 20:08Many years ago I spoke with a lovely lady who was a portage worker, she told me how they would have to go and tell parents that there child was unable to be educated, how long will it be before we have gone full circle,, sen children need every bit of support they can get, the lies one have told is unbelievable, I pray they don't get away with this, county council are just as bad, denying they knew about this, who built Suffolk one? Who took the sen 6th forms based on lies, |

#132014-04-05 20:23I work for an agency that supports these young people. I see them on a regular basis and I have formed good relationships with many. Reducing their exposure to education and social situations from five days to three is a cost cutting exercise that will have a long term impact for many of them. |

#142014-04-05 22:00I thought discrimination was supposed to be stamped out in all areas, obviously not in this branch of education. |

#15 WRONG2014-04-05 23:10This is disgusting. My child is autistic and I had hope that a new facility would be open to him also when he was old enough to go. But this takes away the hope that our children will be taken on board equally as all others and not second best. |

This needs to be argued on other points, for example, sen children need more support and time than the mainstream students. There are young people in the mainstream side of the college who have statements who find support for the independent study periods.

#18 Re: Re: Three days in college per week2014-04-06 09:24Rosie, are you a student at One? From what people have told me the mainstream students at One have the option of studying modules which mean they are there 5 days a week. The SEN pupils timetables will now be delivered over 3 days, meaning they have their option modules cut from 3 to 1. The students in question come from special schools in Suffolk for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties and therefore require a high level of support. Suffolk County Council were responsible for closing the specialist 6th forms that were attached to the special schools because they said that One would provide them with the equivalent education. The specialist 6th forms had delivered the students education over 5 days and parents and students were promised the same at One. Suffolk One is not a college, it is a sixth form, and therefore should not be compared to FE colleges. |

#192014-04-06 14:40It's amazing what people can do if given a chance and the right support. Please rethink this decision! |

#212014-04-06 19:22On some level, I could have been viewed as a foundation learner, as i was always put in the bottom sets in high school, and needed an extra year in sixth form. I will readily admit that i needed extra time to achieve my goals, but now i am at UNIVERSITY. I would hate to think that others will not have the time they deserve in education, i think that 3 day schooling will suppress the want to achieve and talent will vanish. |

#222014-04-06 19:56This is disgraceful, students with special needs have the same right to full time education as Main stream students. |

#232014-04-07 16:35These students need structure - routine / consistency, this is going to have a massively detrimental effect on them. The excuse given that a five day week of study is 'too tiring' for the students is laughable, it's clear that this is simply a cost saving exercise and the only people that will be hurt are the students and their families. |

#242014-04-07 16:46Charity begins at home. These special children never asked to be like that. What we spend on there education now, may make bigger savings in the future, as a lot of them may be more capable of looking after themselves in the future. |
