I have 2 children at Godshill and one due to start, we have already been through 1 school closure in my children’s school history so far. We don’t want another one!! We have no other local schools as another is set to close and one closed last year. We would have to travel to reach school they have nominated and add financial costGemma Burgess (Godshill, 2024-09-04)

My children are at Godshill school and moving them would be detrimental to their wellbeing! Not to mention not doable for the parents who also need to get to work!Levi Wendes (Godshill, 2024-09-04)

I have two children who attend this school, and my eldest has just moved on to her secondary school. We moved here from the mainland to have a better future, and the school is amazing. All my children have developed so much since being here. Larger schools mean less one-on-one time with the children closure off any school has a long term effect on children mentally, emotionally and physically they should only move school though choice and when they are ready to leave not because the government want to save moneyAmy Martindale (Ventnor, 2024-09-04)

Both my kids attend this school and they love it. To move them to another school (such as Niton) would be problematic especially for bus transportation.Paul Emsley (Rookley, 2024-09-04)

They are building over 100 new houses in Godshill, new estate in Rookley, where are these children going to go? Also how are children going to get to Niton if parents have no transport, there's no direct bus! Cost more to put school buses on, causing more traffic going along Whitwell road where there's enough accidents already!!My children, my grandchildren went to Godshill and did well, not my great grandson was having his name put down for school and nursery.
This is not fair to the staff at Godshill who have worked so hard had a great Ofsted report. The children have done so well in their sport awards and are a real credit to the hard work put in by the teachers. The council are making a big mistake closing Godshill Primary.

We have already had the upheaval of loosing our local school and moved our children to Godshill. My children are both neurodiverse and having to move to another school and make new friends again will send my son especially over the edge. Godshill is a fantastic thriving school that works so well for all the children there.Joanne Brown (Chillerton, 2024-09-04)

My Grandson attends this school and it is ridiculous to make him and his friends travel to Niton when there is nothing wrong with Godshill. It received a good Ofsted and recently took on the children from Chillerton when it closed so its numbers are good. They also have excellent loyal staff.
A new estate is currently being built in Godshill so the local school will be needed to accommodate these new residents.

The school has been serving the local community and surrounding area for decades. We have only recently received a GOOD ofsted report. This would be devastating for not only the children and families but the excellent staff. There are other schools which are failing and have lower numbers than we do. We simply can’t closeHolly Zanti (Ventnor, 2024-09-04)

I'm extremely surprised and disappointed at the prospect of closing such a wonderful, cherished and successful school. I believe it's location and popularity should justify it remaining open.Mark Vince (Winford, 2024-09-04)

I am signing because we live in Rookleyand my 2 children are studying at Godshill Primary School. This school is located in a perfect location. Parents who doesn't drive can just easily get on the bus without getting stress about the bus route and timetable. Easier access for the both working parents as the school is just close to our home. There are some lovely pubs/cafe and shop or could do a lovely walk nearby whilst the parents are waiting for their children's home time. The teachers/staff at Godshill Primary School are lovely, and approachable and I could tell they are very effective teachers base on what I could see from my children's learning and knowledge they get. My children are always excited to go to Godshill Primary School because they feel safe and when the parents know that their children are safe in school, that what really matters the most. Also the Godshill Griffins staff are just superb!

My two grandchildren have progressed so well there ( & my daughter who attended there 38 years ago). It is a lovely village school ,very well run ,so many good staff will lose their jobs . Think about the future of the school ,the village & the younger generationShirley Amner (Shanklin, 2024-09-04)

My little boy is in year 3 and is in a fantastic class of children. My eldest son went to Godshill . I even went to Godshill myself. The school has come on leaps and bounds since my eldest (now year 8) started. It would be a shame for all the hard work to go to waste. It is a fantastic school that deserves to remain open.Karen Darby (Godshill, 2024-09-04)

The small school are the backbone of rural life. People who live in the rural areas already miss out on much of what is on offer in towns and cities because of the remoteness and so councils say there is never enough money spent on these villages and hamlets. You take away the school and no one will move into these areas only as second homes and holiday lets, this does not bring in enough income for the areas so as a council it will be in a worse position.Lynne Harris (Newport, 2024-09-05)

I live opposite the school and can see and hear the joy young people exhibit as they go, attend and leave that beautiful learning establishment. We are a growing village, the largest village on the Island and need a school, especially a high quality school, for the children here to attend.Chris Slann (Godshill, 2024-09-05)

I am signing because there is a great need for the school from which one of my grandchildren has benefited greatly and another will soon be attending. They would not have been able to attend if they did not live at home.John Athanasiou (London, 2024-09-05)

This school has served 3 family generations and needs to continue into future generations called village community and other villages are to far and dangerous to walk to and no transport links if can't drive especially remote places like Niton it's ridiculous especially with all the new builds encouraging affordable family's to buy promoting school to then take it away it's horrendousRebecca Eastgate (Ventnor, 2024-09-05)

This school has many positives - 'Good' offsted, school games platinum status sports award, main bus route, on site pre school feed into reception, new build housing estate, new build onsite playground equipment, new build nearby park, support of local businesses after school - post office, shops and cafes. The school has been a draw to the local area for decades and has always been popular.
We walk to school and have created new relationships with other Godshill residents of all ages as a result. The school and village have a community feel which would be hard to find elsewhere.
The children are happy and many more have transferred into the school. Other schools are not as accessible.
Losing Godshill Primary School would be devastating.

My son is currently in year 4 at Godshill Primary. Since they employed a new head Sen leader in September 2022 he has flourished. Godshill is a very good primary school that has full classes. None of the years are mixed to make up numbers. The F.R.O.G.S team are always fundraising to make it possible for the school to upgrade equipment or to treat the children. Teachers and parents work on closely together and have great communication. It would be a massive loss to not only the teachers and students but also the families that use the school.Kelly Whiting (Sandown, 2024-09-05)

My children love Godshill and it is an amazing school. My daughter suffers with autism and speech delay and Godshill have been amazing with her every step of the way. My children won’t cope in a big school.Gabby Walker (Sandown, 2024-09-05)

I’m signing this petition because I truly believe godshill school should be savedIt is a brilliant school , that has won awards , it is very popular and is a big part of godshill comunity
Both my older children attended this school and it gave them the best education which saw them proceed to university
It would be such a huge loss if we lost this part of our history , as godshill school has been going for many years

Having only moved to the island 18 months ago, myself and my family were so happy to have such a well-established school nearby. With 107 homes being built within half mile of the gates, Godshill school is essential for the local area and it's closure would be a mistakeAndrew Black (Godshill, 2024-09-05)

My grandchildren have thrived here at Godshill, and that is after them having the upheaval, stress, worry and uncertainty of the move from Rookley and Chillerton school. I cant imagine the ridiculous reasons for closing such a historical school that has had such an impact and serves such a big rural area. Where are all these children supose to travel to now. Life is stressful enough for our young people these days.maria east (Sandown, 2024-09-05)

This is an absolutely amazing school, the teachers and all staff are amazing with our children and go above and beyond, my daughter left for high school last year and I still have a son at school, my daughter done so well and loved going to school here, My son is SEN and to now possibly have to uproot him and many other children is just unfair and uncalled for, for a busy village school with good offstead, sports awards, amazing staff and pupils to even be considered is absolutely devastating.Emma Bravery (Godshill, 2024-09-05)

I live 100 yards from from Godshill Primary. My child is in year 3.I Appealed when my child started school to get a place at niton, as had a child already there before moving to Godshill. My appeal it said there was a perfectly good school around the the corner from where you live. Now been at Godshill Primary since pre school at Godshill. Godshill is a brilliant school.

Godshill school is a very good school, with great teachers and great students that enjoy going to school. It is not fair for children to have relocate to another school and possibly leave their friends and go into a school far away. Some parents may not be able to get their children to school and they don't drive and there is no buses to niton. Resulting in children not going to school and it effecting their education!!Adina-Rose Daly (Godshill, 2024-09-05)

I feel this is very short sighted more & more family houses are being built on the island with families moving over from the mainland on a very regular basis as well as families already here. Where are all of these children going to go in the future?Sheena Grace (Wootton Bridge, 2024-09-05)

The school is central in many ways. It us based in a thriving town which should be a catchment for surrounding smaller towns and villages. There is good transport to Godshill too.To close the school from this location would mean young children travelling some distance for education.

My daughter goes to this school. My son went. My partner, their dad, and his brothers went when they were kids. There is about to be a new park and a new estate in Godshill, bringing more families in. Moving to another school would cause issues with traffic, parking, mental health of the students and with Godshills Good status for offsted, I don't see it being beneficial for anyone other than the council that wants to save money. There are other ways to do that.Sarah Cole (Godshill, 2024-09-05)

Why do so much work to the school then suggest closing it. Also why build loads of new houses which have 3+ bedrooms without a school being accessible near by. Surely Godshill school is one of the oldest schools on the island.Tammy Hall-Patterson (Ventnor, 2024-09-05)

I'm signing because my children attend the school and they have great relationships with other children and with their teachers. It is a fantastic school and all the staff are friendly and care about all of the children that they teach.

Our 3 children at attended Godshill Primary (1983-1997)- they all have excellent jobs here and still serve the IW community in professional roles.
2 of our grandchildren are now there and live in Godshill village.
Godshill is a wonderful growing community, with new homes being completed as I write.
Ofsted recently rated Godshill a GOOD school and the commitment and dedication of staff is clear to see at every event I've attended recently as a grandparent.
Their facilities have been invested in by those who use the school and all have a pride in it
This community, and these children, need this school - please reconsider and allow this school, and its students, to continue to thrive!
