Guy needs to be included

Amber Flack (Cleveland, 2023-05-26)

#11

As Guy’s former camp counselor, he was a truly astonishing kid who deserved the world; the least that can be done for him is to simply include his name in graduation. I can’t understand how this is even an issue; why the school would choose to put his loved ones through more suffering by breaking this promise is beyond me.

Jordana Hershman (Cleveland, 2023-05-26)

#13

Guy deserved so much better from that school, the least they can do is fulfill their promises for once.

Leo Mckinney (Lexington, 2023-05-26)

Laura Lanning (Lexington, 2023-05-26)

#23

It is only right that the memorialize his spot in the Graduation Ceremony. What kind of school doesn't have compassion regarding the loss of a student and the desire of the family for their name to not be forgotten.

So many deal with Mental illness, just because they are no longer here on earth, does not mean they have been forgotten. Maybe by remembering them at graduation, the students and staff will understand how huge a problem mental illness and suicide is. It is an epidemic and we need to acknowledge it and not sweep it under the carpet. Losing Guy was felt across the world, as so many loved and knew him. Make a stand and acknowledge his spot at graduation by mentioning the loss felt by staff and students alike , mention the tragic and untimely loss of this bright young man. Mention that he is missed and not forgotten and that you all can learn from this enormous loss to reach out for help, and that doing so is not anything to be ashamed of. Maybe mentioning this beautiful young man, others will realize his death was not in vain but to possibly save others from the same fate in recognizing that many of us suffer with things we don’t speak about and that needs to end. Use this as a learning moment for your school - staff and students. Tell them that life is precious and they are not alone and that the world has so much to offer and to reach out, if ever they are in a bad space. This could change the lives for many, this could save lives. Be a school that recognizes that speaking out is a good thing. Rest in peace, Guy Halsey. You are missed , loved and not forgotten. My daughter will do the things you two planned to do, in memory of you, her best friend. You will never be forgotten and we will cherish the times you brightened our lives. Thank you for touching and teaching so many people about love and hardship and strength and determination. Through your battle with Tourette syndrome you also taught so many. I wish you were here for us to hug you and tell you how incredibly proud of you we are. Love you forever!

There are too many young adults struggling with depression because of the pressure placed on them by today’s society. For some, the pressure becomes too much to bear.

Michelle Krieger (Lexington, 2023-05-27)

I had the great pleasure of knowing Guy Halsey. He was a terrific kid. Do the right thing. There is absolutely no reason Guy’s memory could not be remembered during a celebration his family is missing!!

Hillary Hasselbring (Hopkinton, 2023-05-27)

#89

Guy deserves to be recognized and remembered amongst his friends and his peers. It is insanely selfish to deny this family their right to have their sons name called. Honor his memory at graduation.

Faith Horemans (Charlotte, 2023-05-27)

#91

The last thing central should do is take yet another thing away from this grieving family. Guy deserves recognition for his accomplishments as a student.

Anna Workman (Lexington, 2023-05-27)

#92

This young man deserves to be apart of graduation. His parents I feel would be so appreciative that his school showed that he is not not ever will be forgotten.
Time to change that stupid rule for only seniors.

Rebecca Hazelwood (Lexington, 2023-05-27)

#94

Guy deserves to be honored. He was a kind and loving boy that I had the privilege of meeting at Camp Twitch and Shout. Please include him in graduation. If not, this would be extremely disrespectful to him and his family.

#118

I love Guy🖤

Dallas Grubbs (Clarksville, 2023-05-27)

#119

Guy was part of this cohort and should be remembered. To remove him sends a horrible message to the youth being sent out into the world and to the family who entrusted so much of his time in a school system. To go back on the word given to the family, that he would be remember, is reprehensible.

Keichelle Joyce (Thomasville, 2023-05-27)

#120

I speak as someone who lost a brother too young and before he could complete high school. I worked tirelessly for months to petition the school board to not only mention my brother at graduation, but to issue him a diploma. For 32 years, that diploma has been displayed proudly in my home. Every time I look at it, I feel peace. My family feels peace. Friends who visit feel peace.
Please consider that there are no downsides to giving this gift to Guy, his friends, and his family. Guy lived. Guy was a part of so many lives. Please take this opportunity to recognize those facts and honor Guy at graduation.

Paula Elfont (Danbury, 2023-05-27)

#125

As the Director of the Greater Carolinas Tourette Group and fellow Tourette mom, I support including Guy in the graduation at Central Davidson High School.
Not only is this a common practice that is easily accommodated, it’s the right thing to do, regardless of which administration approved it.
The only way we can remove the stigma from mental illness is through things like this. Awareness will create acceptance so that we, as a nation, will make mental health a priority.

Heather Ramsey (Davidson, 2023-05-27)

Mental health is an ongoing and upcoming rise of a health issue we don’t want to talk about. However, I have been fighting my own mental health issues for over 13 years and it’s tough but a great support from friends and family help more than you know. This is truly sad and I share my deepest condolences with the family

kailey shepard (lexington, 2023-05-27)

#157

This young man should be honored at the graduation that was supposed to be his big day as well. His friends and family deserve to have his name acknowledged with his senior class. Central Davidson staff, please do better. As a community, we should be shining a light on mental health awareness and the victims to it. By not including his name, you are sending a message that victims to suicide are easily forgotten and dismissed by your administration. For the sake of all that loved and knew him, and also for the sake of the other young students you have that may struggle with their own mental health, please reconsider your decision to exclude him.

Breanna Cowan (Lexington, 2023-05-27)

#159

It’s the right thing to do, everyone deserves to be honored and recognized at a special event such as this! Just because a new person comes in should NOT give them the RIGHT to CHANGE anything that had already been approved!! What poor leadership they must have, disgusting.
