Government must live within their means

No reasonable government would impose a tax increase like our Canadian government is proposing. It’s ridiculous and is uncalled for in the middle of a “pandemic”. People have lost their jobs and businesses and doing this just proves our government does not care about the Canadian people.

The City needs to allow tax payers time to recover from the ravages of covid and inflation before realizing any tax hike period. The City is obligated to the well being of its citizens and priorities must be spending existing monies, without a hike, on homeless issues, overdose issues, low income housing issues.. etc

Noni Bartlett (Nanaimo, 2021-12-23)

Spending is not necessary at this time.

Bill Irwin (Nanaimo, 2021-12-24)

This is a poor idea at this time. Businesses are struggling to stay afloat, many have lost incomes, and as stated inflation is rampant. slow down, step back, now is not the time for this.

Barbara SMITH (nanaimo, 2021-12-24)

Tax increases proposed are destructive to citizenry well being; lack integrity, transparency do not add value only cost and will drive increasing numbers of the population to live on a survival basis.

All government officials should be replaced with fresh blood that care about the people & their communities! Enough enough with taxes!! They all should be abolished (taxes) never should’ve been brought in!! We the people have been thrown under the bus for long enough !! Time for common law to be brought back !!

Deb McLean (Campbell River, 2021-12-24)

Tired of all the misdirection and lies , government must be held accountable

I'm signing this petition because I am totally fed up with the waste being exhibited by this Council. Why do projects like Metral Drive renovations have to be the "Cadillac" version - we need more thought given to these extravegant expenditures.

Tony Davis (Nanaimo, 2021-12-25)

You guys are ridiculous!! Our property values have soared and you want to compound it by increase the taxation rate!?!?!!!
Cmon man!!! Give your head a shake!!!

Frank Pluta (Nanaimo, 2021-12-25)

I am in agreement with this petition. These tax hikes, are absurd. Who benefits, except crashing the economy, & hurting vulnerable people.

Samantha Mclennan (Nanaimo, 2021-12-26)

It is time for council to stop working on their pet projects and actually work for ALL citizens of Nanaimo.

I feel that City of Nanaimo is not representing the interest of the citizens. Un-vaxed can no longer take their young children to go swimming or skating. These kids need the exercise and the social interaction.

Alice Bilton (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

This increase is ridiculous, people have lost their houses, people have lost their jobs, and now you want to have an obscene increase in taxes? Totally insane!

Brian Rathgeber (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

With rising home value and rising tax rates it’s seams like it’s just to much.

Duane Stone (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

We need the crazy money grab by socialists to stop

John Long (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

#55

Taxes have gone up an obscene amount, we have had way too many 'vanity' projects while we aren't supplying necessary needs, like road clearance.

Kim M Campbell (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

#56

We are house owners and business owners. This is way too much of a tax hike. The council can't even get the job done right, wasting our tax money so why and how should we trust them to use this money for the better of Nanaimo. Everyone is struggling right now, a tax break for home owners would be a better thing to do.

Michelle Gould (Nanaimo, 2022-01-05)

I am on septic and pay for sewer- Why?
Utilities are overcharging.
Port Theater only for Vaccinated?
We don't need protection from the city or gov, we need fewer taxes and more freedoms.

Cat Dog (Naniamo, 2022-01-05)

Overtaxing on a record year for assessed value increases. And a new tax for storm runoff? Go f^*k yourselves.

Allan Nielsen (Nanaimo, 2022-01-06)

I feel that increasing taxes during this difficult time is very unfair!!

Ewelina Nozka (Nanaimo, 2022-01-06)

I am a first time home owner and the increase is shocking.

Magdalena Markiewicz (Nanaimo, 2022-01-06)

Stop the insanity please

Terri-Lee Wyborn (Surrey, 2022-01-06)

Is it not obvious the taxes don’t need to be raised.

Doug Moutray (Nanaimo, 2022-01-07)

#74

This year we need a tax break.

Rhonda Watson (Nanoose Bay, 2022-01-08)

Council needs to re-evaluate there projected increase due to "Much" higher assessment rates this fiscal.

Stop the ever increasing tax load. We must learn to make do with what we have!

Keith Osmond (Nanaimo, 2022-01-14)

we need new leadership. we pay for the government salaries and therefore we have a right to remove the individual who can't do the job they were hired/elected to do. we the people have the real power. TRUST.

It is getting so tough to cover basic needs these days. Look around Nanaimo. So many places have gone under. Even restaurants do not have the numbers. The 10 - 15 percent of the people not going out because of restrictions is the profit margin for all businesses, not just restaurants.

Fred Pollock (Nanaimo, 2022-01-20)

Two years of pandemic restrictions and policies have critically injured businesses, incomes, employment, and increased the finanacial burden of all households (taxpayers) and the welfare of a majority of Nanaimo residents to cope with said restrictions and policies.

Wayne Nelson (Nanaimo, 2022-01-20)

#106

I believe that a hike that large will cause hardship for lots of people.

Jeanna Duke (Nanaimo, 2022-01-21)

#111

Very poor spending choices with a very disconnected council that isn’t supporting safety in our once beautiful community.

Kat Hamill (Nanaimo, 2022-01-21)

#119

I agree that we all need rent relief and a break from the spiralling cost of living while we can still afford basic expenses.

Trustan Scott (Nanaimo, 2022-01-21)

#121

We need honesty in our council. I agree with this petition

Margaret Langille (Nanaimo, 2022-01-21)

#124

Enough is enough.

Debra Sheppard (Nansimo, 2022-01-22)

#129

I'm signing because I pay my taxes on a monthly basis and each year I still have to pay around $500. I am a senior on a fixed income. I think the city should be happy with the money they're getting from me and not need more in July.

Bettyann Fulton (Nanaimo, 2022-01-24)

#130

The increase is astronomical and not in line with what we are receiving in return. Road conditions are terrible and the roads were as well not looked after during the recent snow storm. We have no street lights still to this day and our drainage is never looked after which has resulted in flooding.

Rene qualizza Smith (Ladysmith, 2022-01-25)

#133

Taxes have been claiming up steadly to no return , jobs are less prices on everything is outrageous, gas rent utilities. Through the roof . Enough is enough.
NO TO INCREASES ON ALL TAXES .
