Support Universal Mask Mandate in LSR-7 School District

Comments

I’m signing because as a concerned parent and citizen of Lee’s Summit, I demand district leadership to prioritize the health of every student, staff and faculty member in LSR-7, and to keep our whole community as safe as possible during these worsening and frightening times. Please support universal mask mandates to give everyone the best chance of surviving this pandemic.

Adriana Paez (Lees Summit, 2021-07-31)

I'm concerned for the health of not only my children, but those in our lives who are more vulnerable and are also unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19. I also want my children to be able to attend school in-person as much as possible, and masking last year resulted in very few quarantines needed in our school (and none for our family).

Andrea Dalton (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#7

I recently got covid from work. I am vaccinated. We must all mask and distance to stop this spread.

Rebecca Lindquist (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#9

I would like to keep all students in person in class as much as possible. I believe one of the most effective methods of keeping everyone as safe as possible, is to require masks in school. I also think it's important to avoid the back and forth we saw last year by clearly defining the benchmarks required for a change to the requirement.

Jennifer Wiltz (lees summit, 2021-08-01)

#11

Not requiring masks at school would be an absolutely ridiculous decision predicated on the feelings of a few elite parents and ultimately would put all families at risk. LSR7 district has enough PR problems as it is.

Casey Scoggins (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#13

I am signing this because universal masking is our best mechanism for in person school with the fewest disruptions and quarantines. We can and should protect students too young to be vaccinated as well as work to curb the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. We need to demonstrate courageous leadership and create a safer environment for all students so that there are fewer disruptions to the learning environment and students, staff, faculty and the community are protected. A simple piece of cloth is a powerful tool in the fight for community health.

Joycelyn Burgo (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#15

The health and safety of elementary, middle, and high school students are at risk due to the need Delta variant. Many students are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, and less than 40% of those who are eligible have completed the vaccine series. Masks are an essential component to reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our region and ensuring our children are safe and able to attend school in person.

Andrea Bradley Ewing (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#17

I want my children to be protected from the delta variant.

Eric Serrano (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#21

My son is immunocompromised and despite him being vaccinated he only holds on to 50% of his immunizations. My kids want to be back at school so badly. We have to make it a space place for them.

Sarah Martinez (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#24

My children deserve the opportunity to attend a full year of school, and they deserve to do
it in safety!

Janna Harmon (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#30

I’m signing because masks work and children are now more at risk from Covid variants than before. They need the adults in charge to make the right decisions for their safety.

Robyn McGee (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#34

I'm signing because I think that this is a very important issue. A universal mask policy for the district protects EVERYONE and that should be one of the goals of our district: to provide education in a consistent and SAFE way.

Kelli Hunnicutt-Davis (Lees Summit, MO, 2021-08-01)

#43

I have two kids in LSR7. They’re not vaccinated, not are 99.9999% of their peers (2nd grade and Great Beginnings.) Unvaccinated kids NEED to be masked, and it won’t work if it’s voluntary only. There will be massive outbreaks and school closures if you don’t require masks.

Amy Phillips (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#44

I have 2 children in the district. One is not yet eligible for the vaccine. Masks are an easy and inexpensive way to stop the spread of the highly contagious delta variant. Children’s Mercy Hospital is seeing children hospitalized due to Covid-19.
Students need to be in school and they need to be safe. This will also keep teacher safe as well.

Anne Graham (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#49

The Delta variant is transmitted easier and the vaccinated can be asymptomatic but have a full viral load. I work in a hospital and would like this pandemic to be over. We can do our part by wearing masks indoors

Miranda Finnerty (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#52

My signature in approval of universal masking at LSR7 is out of love and concern for all of our children, especially my young sons who are ineligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine yet. My oldest had a very positive experience with Online Academy in 20-21, and my youngest had his second year of preschool at home. We are looking forward to a school year back with friends and teachers who are masked. Helping each other mitigate the spread of a more contagious variant. Our elementary school is constantly teaching lessons about the importance of kindness. Masking in public is one of many ways our family shows our kindness and love for our community. Please channel that community kindness, and require masks in our public schools. Thank you.

Ashley Harp (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#54

I’m signing because I want my child to be as safe as possible while attending school!

Pay Mayberry (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#58

I believe mask wearing is integral for returning to school safely.

Alethea Rollins (Lee’s summit, 2021-08-01)

#63

Our number one job is to keep kids safe.

Phyllis Salanaki (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#65

Mask wearing will reduce transmission of illness, decrease sick days and quarantines, and is the right thing to do.

Heather Theiss (LEES SUMMIT, 2021-08-01)

#67

I have a child who is not yet vaccinated whom I want to keep safe. Covid is targeting children now. Children’s Mercy is at full capacity and unvaccinated kids with Covid are on ventilators fighting for their lives. A simple mask can prevent this until they can ALL be eligible for vaccination. Keeping our kids safe while providing the best education should ALWAYS be the top priority of this school district.

Marci Dameron (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#68

I am a healthcare provider seeing the horror of Covid 19 inside hospital walls. Please mandate masks until our children have the opportunity to be protected via vaccination. AND on a less severe note, so they can get an uninterrupted education (or less interrupted from outbreaks) making masking an individual choice just gives students one more thing to bully each other about at school.

Kelly Wemhoff (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#70

I have two kids in the district who are not old enough to qualify for the vaccine. I want them kept safe, following CDC recommendations.

Elizabeth Johnson (Greenwood, 2021-08-01)

#71

I believe a universal mask mandate is necessary to help stop the spread of the virus.

Charlotte Yates (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#72

As an employee and parent in LSR7, we need to put every layer in place to protect our community members. If we have any chance at staying in person, we have to wear masks and distance.

Rebecca Wright (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#74

I am signing because I believe that a mandate is needed to protect staff, students and families.

Cynthia Jackson (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#76

I care about my children and students and this virus is not over.

Nicole Dawson (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#77

I am signing because I want my child to be able to safely return to school for her last year in Elementary. She and all her friends did a great sacrifice to keep others safe last year while there was no vaccines. Now things have changed and we know masks work. Once all the children are allowed to safely vaccinate we can ease mask requirements but we are not there yet. The science is clear and these are the recommendations of our health officials. Hope LSR7 does the right thing for the children, rather than appeasing a small group.

Roxanna Perez (LEES SUMMIT, 2021-08-01)

#78

Our children deserve a consistent and safe school year!

Kristin Chandler (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#80

This is the right thing to do for our community and our LSR7 students. I am a parent of two LSR7 students who are under age 12 and cannot be vaccinated.

Michelle Dawson (Lee's Summit, MO, 2021-08-01)

#81

I fully support a mask mandate for all LSR7 schools.

Allison Brunk (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#82

I want to send my daughter in person and this would make me feel much more comfortable in doing so.

Joel Brunk (Lees summit, 2021-08-01)

#83

I want to protect all unvaccinated children.

Andrew Dawson (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#84

I believe that public health and safety is important. Education wont be possible is children aren't healthy.

Laura Moore (Lee's summit, 2021-08-01)

#86

Basic safety measures recommended by medical experts shouldn't be ignored due to partisan politics

Joshua McQuinn (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#89

I’m signing because my kid is higher risk and deserves to be in school in-person too. This will help protect him as well as all his classmates.

Stephanie Krupa (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#91

I have 3 kids who are too young to be vaccinated.

Betsu Roadman (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#92

In alignment with doctor, scientist and child health expert recommendations. My child isn’t old enough to be vaccinated yet.

Erin Gregory (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#95

I’m a nurse who works in a hospital. We are back to being full again Wearing masks is the right thing to do and recommended by CDC!

Mark Chandler (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#96

I'm signing this petition because I believe that children need to be in person for socialization; however, I also believe children need to be safe. There are a lot of children who are not or cannot be vaccinated and all of our children need to be protected. A mask mandate will help to ensure the safety of our children.

Cita Trice (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#97

As a parent of two children in the school district, I encourage you to be bold in your caring for our students by implementing universal masking in our schools. Many of our students are too young to be vaccinated yet; the safety of our young people is in your hands.

Mary Honour (LEES SUMMIT, 2021-08-01)

#99

I'm signing because I want us back in person, but I also want the healthiest outcome for all in the Lsr7 School District. I am following the advice of the CDC and physicians all over the country.

Dianne Dobson (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#100

To keep my child and other students safely learning in school.

Meredith Nelson (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#104

I am signing because I have a grandson at Richardson Elementary and I believe in science, that masks help to stop the spread of covid.

Nina Pointer (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#109

I work in health care and I have seen what this can do to people for the long haul. Also my youngest is not old enough for a vaccine yet.

Melissa Cronin (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#110

I believe in protecting our community and in person learning

Jennifer Bennett (Greenwood, 2021-08-01)

#115

My daughter isn’t vaccinated yet and I want in person school to happen this year with limited disruptions of quarantines, etc.

Lori Doran (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#118

Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases. We all have a responsibility to support and maintain our society's public health, historically the impact of public health measures cannot be minimized. Wearing masks is the right thing to do to protect not only our children, but the community as well!

Peggy Chandler (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#121

My grandchildren need a safe environment at school so they can return. Masks are scientifically proven to work. Doctors have used them for years to prevent transfer of all kinds of germs.

Barb DeBusk (Independence, 2021-08-01)

#122

I have one child that will not be fully vaccinated for at least 2 months after school starts, and one that is not eligible to be vaccinated this school year. They deserve to be learning AT school. Our tax dollars paid for enhanced security measures at all of our schools; COVID-19 is a more likely risk for our children and staff. Let’s help keep them safe.

Lorna Puls (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#126

I think it is critical to keep all staff, teachers and student as safe as possible. This isn't a popular opinion. I would much rather have the inconvenience of a mask for all, vs a potential lockdown or increase for kids...yes personal freedom is important but sometimes you have to take a step to protect the greater good.

Michelle Kirkpatrick (Lees summit, 2021-08-01)

#127

My 10y/o is still unable to receive the vaccine. We need to keep students unable to be vaccinated safe.

Kami Ness (LEES SUMMIT, 2021-08-01)

#128

Of science.

Kyla Serrano (Lee’s summit, 2021-08-01)

#129

I feel this is the safest way to protect our students and keep them in school.

Julie Carpenter (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-01)

#132

Having had my 19 year old son in the ICU with Covid, I am concerned for my child who cannot get vaccinated. The infection rates and the hospitalization rates are alarming and I would think that the school district would want to keep kinds in school.

Sonia Hernandez (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#135

I’m signing because our kids and educators health is worth more than the inconvenience of using task masks during a pandemic

Andrew Van Lue (Lee’/ Summit, 2021-08-01)

#137

I'm signing this petition because I care about my community. I think a mask mandate is necessary for students and staff.

Dana Troumbley (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#150

I’m signing because: 1. This stuff is common sense. People need to quit being selfish so we can get ahead of CV-19. 2. People I love teach at Lee’s Summit and I want them to stay healthy.

Krysten Olson (Kansas City, 2021-08-01)

#152

Lee’s Summit is a leader for all Kansas City school districts. We need them to enforce the mask mandate so the rest will follow.

Heather Oldham (Kearney, 2021-08-01)

#153

Our children deserve an uninterrupted school year, which will not happen without masking.

Renee Stewart (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#156

I'm signing because I care about the health and well-being of our community. The poor vaccination rates, in conjunction with the high Covid-19 and Delta variant in Lee's Summit put us all at risk of contracting the virus. The consequences of the risky behavior of not wearing a mask include long term disability and death-schools should be one of the safest places for a child.

Rachael Dameron (Lees Summit, 2021-08-01)

#157

The school district mishandled the 2020/2021 school year and absolutely resulted in deaths of individuals impacted.
To disregard the CDC at this juncture would result in more blood on the hands of the board.

Hannah Schlegelmilch (Kansas City, 2021-08-01)

#158

I have 3 kids in the R-7 schools and don't want science denying conspiracy theorists to pressure the district into unsafe school conditions. There must also be clear ramifications for failure to mask.

Ryan Ness (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-01)

#169

I am concerned about the well being of my unvaccinated grandchildren returning to a school situation without masks. As a public health professional I can not understand the ignorance of not following the science and doing what is necessary for the well being of all

Ann Lund (Shawnee, 2021-08-02)

#172

I want my children to benefit from in-person school while also remaining as safe as possible. My son has a condition that puts him at higher risk for complications, and masks are SUCH an easy solution to keep him and everyone else safe.

Sarah Dittmann (Lee's Summit, 2021-08-02)

#174

I’m signing because I feel that it is extremely important for us to protect the ones without a voice. All kids MUST wear masks this school year.

Ashley Hayes (Lees Summit, 2021-08-02)

#176

Public health and safety for children not able to be vaccinated due to age.

Sergio Zendejas (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-02)

#183

To protect our children and staff and to keep schools open.

Lori DeAnda (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-02)

#188

Keep the kids safe as possible!

Holly Long (Lee’s Aummit, 2021-08-02)

#190

Keeping kids safe should be the first priority and the second should be teaching accurate information about science and public health.

Jenna Foraker (Lees Summit, 2021-08-02)

#192

I’m signing because students (especially our 2 grandchildren) and staff deserve a school year that has minimal disruption due to COVID illnesses and quarantines.

Cheryl Sullivan (Lee’s Summit, 2021-08-02)

#198

I want to keep everyone safe and healthy through the school year.

Thoeun Barnes (Kansas City, 2021-08-03)

#199

CDC guidelines need to be followed. We are putting students and staff as well as our entire community at risk if masks are not mandated. Science and medical expertise should be followed. There is absolutely no reason to not mandate masks in elementary schools, where kids are not vaccinated.
