Bring Stranded Australian People Home Or Step Down

It is an injustice that ANY country ignores the welfare of its nationals and treats them as stateless, denying them social security relief or financial support in the face of a pandemic while escalating monetary support by individuals in similar situations on Australian soil. The fistful of dollars approach thrown at ordinary Victorians while neglecting Australians trapped overseas and treating them as invisible betrays all that most Australians find abhorrent. In short, it is an abuse of human rights.Albert Delaunay (Manila, 2020-08-10)

Too many people are stranded. Bring them home. I have personal friends stranded in the Philippines and this is putting a real strain on him and his family both financially and mentally. My wife is currently in the Philippines but will soon be needing to return to Australia. The Australian Government`s policy of limiting arrivals will make it very difficult to obtain an affordable seat on a plane. Australian citizens have the right to reenter Australia. Your government has a duty to assist citizens.Darryl Grigg (brisbane, 2020-08-10)

This is my Dad and needs get home to see his doctor as he is not well due to suffering a number of health conditions, And can’t be seen by Doctors in the Philippines.Lawrence is also paying to live for in properties At this moment and has other responsibilities so he needs to back in Queensland ASAP With no government support/funding I’m really concerned for my Dad’s welfare with his money to live on is running low and will not be able support himself for another year if he does not get home quickly.. So Please I’m begging the Australian government to to arrange all flights for people like my Dad to get back home safely.

We are trying to get home and out flights have been cancelled due to the caps imposed in Australia. We have now been told we have to wait another 4 months for the next available flight! I have resigned from my job and am in the middle of moving out of our house because we were expecting to leave on our flight booked for September the 2nd. Please lift the caps or increase their numbers so that we can return home!Bethany Lambert (Bogota, 2020-08-10)

Myself and my partner we are stranded in South America, with very few options to come back all very expensive and not affordable for us with the risk to be stranded in USA or Europe with and indefinite date of coming back to Australia. We need a flight that goes from Colombia-Chile-Australia one was done on the 27th of June by Latam but not everyone was able to get in for many different reason . Now Latam doesn’t want to help us because of the restrictions on incoming international flights Australia has imposed. We need a guarantee that if a flight from Latam is operated we will be able to get in and with as many of us as possible we need to come back home , to our life, friends , jobs( if somebody still has one after all this time off and not for our personal choice ) we need to be heard we need help !!! Don’t forget about us here Please !!!Alessandro Lanzafame (Cali, 2020-08-10)

I have been stranded here in the Philippines since mid March.
Registered for 8 repat flights but was never contacted. Had 2 commercial flights cancelled and 1 rescheduled. The cap that the govt has implemented makes it just about impossible to get back home to Australia
The govt needs to open up landing rights for more flights with more passengers per flight so we can get back to our homes in Australia

I'm stuck overseas and my 13 and 14 year old kids are in Australia. I sent them back to Australia mid March and my husband and I were supposed to fly back 2 weeks later. The day after my children flew back the airport here was closed and we were stuck. Now the airport is operating again but with very few flights but even though we can leave the country there's no following flights to take us to Australia unless we pay 15 thousand AUD per person for the flights. I need to reach my children. We've already been separated for 5 months. They are safe physically and they're being looked after by my brother but their emotional state is crumbling. I bet Scott Morrison and his government members would have been diagnosed with mental health issues if they went through the same stress they are putting us through by the travel capArpy Kardachian (Kotayk, 2020-08-16)

I’m signing this because my wife is stuck in India since March 2020. I can not believe the treatment you have given to us Australians. Every other country in the world is operating mercy flights and you calling yourself a first world country don’t even care about the lives of your people stuck overseas. Not everything is as clear as daylight that you say it’s our fault for being stranded abroad. Please make arrangements just like every other country is doing to fly flights and bring back our people and remove the cap on international travels!Joshua Desouza (Goa, 2020-08-18)

It has been a stressful time trying to get home. I am a teacher and had commitments to complete the school year before returning home as planned prior to covid. I am 6 MTHS pregnant and worried that if my flights continue to be cancelled or I am bumped off in favour of business class tickets which I cannot afford then I will not be able to return home before I am too far along in my pregnancy to be able to fly. My visa runs out in February. If I am forced to stay in the UK to give birth then I will need to leave the country when my child is only 2 months old- making it difficult to get all the necessary documents eg. Australian passport for child in place before the visa expires. Even though I booked my flights before mention of charging the returning citizens Western Australia will still be charging me for mandatory hotel quarantine. This is money I need to set up my life back in Australia and get ready for my baby. This is made even more difficult as I will be unemployed and seeking maternity leave from the government. I feel abandoned by my own country. I feel extremely stressed about the possibility of not being able to return home which is due explicitly from the caps in place. This is not the type of stress I should have to deal with when pregnant. This is just my story. I know there are many other people stranded away from Australia without being able to return home as a direct result of the caps. In the scheme of things we are only the minority trying to return home but it is so disappointing that the government will not listen to us or do anything to help their citizens from returning home.Michelle Clow (London, 2020-08-20)
