Stopping the boat to fitzroy will destoy this comminity, its buisness and its ability to function.Sealink made the residents and ratepayers concrete the landing and purchase a trailer of barriers ect for health and safety and now its done they just back away.
Sealink, there is very little difference between Tryphena and Fitzroy for the boat, its a 3hr return trip for us by car.

We used to own Port Fitzroy store and know how vital the ferry services are to the north of Great Barrier Island . If businesses are going to stay viable the ferry is an integral part of that.Cheryl Jones (Rangiors, 2020-03-07)

The actions of Sealink will have a marked and detrimental effect on the northern community on the Island.Bill Knaggs (Tryphena, 2020-03-07)
#36
I am a resident of the north Barrier and the cessation of services by Sealink will have a huge impact on everyone. To have to pay to have items coming from the mainland trucked north or to make a 3/4 hour return trip to collect them on top of Sealink's charges will cause serious financial hardship. This is unacceptable.Kay Stowell (Great Barrier Island, 2020-03-07)

The service being discontinued is essential for the well being of our communityKevin Burke (Okiwi. Gt Barrier Is, 2020-03-07)
#69
This is going to put a massive strain on the economy of the North Barrier, there have been no discussions or negotiations with the locals regarding the change. As a business move, it seems a very underhanded way of handling things: only looking at the bottom line when Sealink are well aware of the toll this will take on the residents. Surely there could be a way of reducing the number of trips to Fitzroy and coming up with an arrangement that works for all parties. Poorly handled!!!Jake F (Los Angeles, 2020-03-07)
#73
I support the residents and businesses of Great Barrier Island and feel the prevention of further hardship to the northern community should outway the corporate profit of Sealink.Cynthia Mourant (Auckland, 2020-03-07)

I live in the North Barrier and like many people, my family depends on SeaLink for groceries. We also have a native tree nursery which requires supplies such as potting mix. I am from the upper end of Great Barrier Is, and soon will be returning to live we, me and my family members have always docked at Port Fitzroy being the closest wharf to Katherine Bay not being able to dock there would be a huge inconvenience to the people and to the surrounding businesses, and for getting supplies that people need to survive.Raewyn Page (Auckland, 2020-03-09)
#108
Living on the Barrier can be a challenge, you are making it hard for businesses and also people who need a vehicle to get down the Island BUT where are they going to leave the vehicle while they are off Island. Personally this idea is uncaring and thoughtless of the decision makers at Sea LinkSylvia Roberts

I’m signing because we spend part of the year in Port Fitzroy and it would be a huge imposition to lose this service. It is most unfriendly, unsupportive and a negative incentive to the fishing and tourist trade in this area.Joan Randall (Portland, Oregon, 2020-03-09)
#115
Sealink need to listen to their customers and consult before discontinuing their service to Fitzroy.Fiona Anderson (Great Barrier Island, 2020-03-09)

I'm signing this in support of ALL northern barrier businesses and being a resident of north barrier I myself will be greatly affected as I have just started a new house build , it's hard enough , expensive enough and stressful enough just getting freight to port fitzroy let alone to another port 1 hour away . Shame on you Sealink !Jade Williams (Great Barrier, 2020-03-09)
#117
I am a North Barrier resident temporarily living in Auckland commuting frequently via sealink to Port Fitzroy. Transporting large freight loads on barrier roads can be quite cumbersome and difficult for our people and vehicles. This is going to greatly impact the residents if the north and us not in the best interests of the community.Amy Bullough (Taupo, 2020-03-10)
#121
I.m signing because I have seen the negative impact of the aircraft centralizing when there are a third if not more of the population in the north, with Hillary Outdoors hosting by far the largest number of visitors to the island. To have to ship passengers and freight at least an hour north will be disastrous for the economy. Auckland city council needs to step up and plan a transport system, we can't have corporate monopolies holding communities to ransom. Fullers tried it on waiheke and would have got away with it without government intervention, we need local government protection from these corporate gangsters, the barrier has experienced the same tactics, downgraded services and price hikes. Any competitor operations need protection too because the monopoly will undercut them to protect their dominance.Brian Reed (Okiwi, 2020-03-10)
#122
I use sealink and want the service to include Port Fitzroy. My father on the island uses the products brought via sealink freight to the general store located there. Do not isolate the northern end.Rebecca Mabey (Tauranga, 2020-03-10)

This experiment has been going for 12 months now. It was always short sighted. It is strangling the Businesses and community of the North Barrier. There is still no effective road cartage system between South and North. AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN.Kevin Burke (Great Barrier Island, 2021-07-05)
