It’s a 50 minute up hill walk for me to get to Sion, I’m a textile student with so many items I need to carry up the hill which creates a overwhelming heavy load. I do not find it sustainable for me to come to uni 9-5 every week day with no mode of transportation. We need a bus? I pay over £9000 for the uni, we have no bus, no free parking, and yet we’re still expected to come in every day. As a university high grades look really good against your name, we need help getting these high grades for ourselves, and you; please help us get these by allowing us to turn up to uni.Beth Miles (Bath, 2020-08-29)

It is unfair that these students are not able to get parking if they live a certain radius away, when there is no other transport provided.Lauren Kite (Glastonbury, 2020-08-29)

Without the access to this the shuttle bus my journey into campus will be around 1 hour on two public busses which for a city university is appalling. I rely on this bus to get me to and from with all my art supplies which sometimes I have a lot. Expected to walk into campus is something I did not want to consider when I chose my house for the upcoming yearMaddy Jones (Bath, 2020-08-29)

Several negotiations with the university were made last year to organise buses as they cancelled the one bus that we had. Even though we’ve already attended meetings and created spreadsheets outlining when we need the buses, the uni have cancelled the buses again regardless of all the information we gaveZoe Weaver (Bath, 2020-08-29)

I was at one time an art student myself and I remember how much equipment I had to carry back and forth to university. It is just not practical to carry heavy and cumbersome equipment on a long walk and uphill at that.Anne McLaughlin (Manchester, 2020-08-29)

I won't be able to get to uni without the shuttle buses running. The walk from my house is over an hour long and will affect my ability to get to uni. It is crazy that they are not offering any alternative travel for us!April Phillips (Bath, 2020-08-29)

I want to be able to get to Sion hill. Without transport it is hard for me to carry all my equipment. I will end up feeling it’s impossible and difficult to get to uni where I pay thousands each year.Kimberley Gates (East cowes, 2020-08-29)

Unreasonable to expect student to walk long distances with course work, weather changing. Some students have mobility issues so long walks out of the question.
I suggest the people who made the decision to cut the transport do the journey they expect students to do to see how they would cope.

I’m a student at Bath Spa University studying at the Sion Hill campus and have used the shuttle bus many times to get to and from uni. I know just how valuable it has been to me and other students and therefore how imperative it is that the service is still available to us.Martha Rice (Devon, 2020-08-29)

Where is our £9,250 being spent on each year???? The least they can do is let us keep our little bus for the students who really rely on it the most! I’m losing faith in Bath Spa University.Hannah Wilson (Bath, 2020-08-30)

My daughter studied at this campus and this link was vital for her and many of the other students who relied on this to get back and forth from the campus to the centre of town and places of accommodation. Most students can’t afford to take taxis so this is the only way they can safely get to their studies each day so this link must be keptNigel Byrne (London, 2020-08-31)

There is clear discrimination being shown towards these students who are paying the same extortionate university fees as everyone else. Additionally, the lack of transport makes it impossible for many with disabilities to access education.Leah Stubbs (Stafford, 2020-09-01)

My daughter will not be pphysically able to carry her art 40 minutes in rain and wind or any weather. There is a massive hill and with extra carry loads it will be impossible. Also during the Winter i am completely concerned for my daughters safety. Walking 40 minutes in the dark by herself. The University MUST realise they have a duty of care to our children/your pupils.
You cannot simply remove transport with no firewarning or consideration. If we had known aroud the time of choosing student accomodation my daughter would not have secured accomodation in her location.
Can we get this rediculous notion into the National papers? Can we contact the local MP?

This is a very stupid thing to have done. Think of all the people who will have to walk for to and from university. Let alone the extra danger it is say for any one to get followedAlex Skelton (Truro, 2020-09-01)

A friends Daughter is studying at this university and should not have to be walking 40mins to and from uni with her art work which could be ruined due to weather and circumstances out of her control. Same principal for all students of any subject.Katie Hill (Falmouth, 2020-09-01)

I am a first year student and will be living in Waterside Court. My maintenance loan does not even cover the cost of my accommodation, so it is unlikely that I could afford the public buses. The shuttle is a vital means of transport to ensure students are safe, especially in the winter months, and that we can transport our work easily.Ella Cooper (Newport, 2020-09-01)

When I applied for this course there were free shuttle buses provided, my accommodation is a 40-minute walk uphill or two buses away carrying a lot of equipment.chloe hawkins (bristol, 2020-09-01)

My daughter applied for the textiles course and confirmed that there was a free shuttle bus to Sion Hill. It is unacceptable to withdraw this. The tuition fees are over £9000 and the accommodation fees over £7000. We have already been expected to pay out £100s for materials and now there is no transport between sites. Walking would be okay if it wasn't up hill and they didn't have lots of materials to carry. The university has a duty of care towards its students and in this case they are failing badly.Heather Jefferson (Bristol, 2020-09-01)

Starting as a first year at the university in September I was under the impression that we would get free intersite shuttle buses. I visited bath at the beginning of August to see my accommodation and walk from it to sion hill. A walk that is meant to take 34 mins took me an hour 15 !!I’m also concerned about the winter having injured my knee ligaments last October they are very weak and simply walking up and down each day will harm it if it’s slippery in the winter I’m extremely worried of falling over, being extremely accident prone and also walking around the area in the dark being a young woman.
If it’s raining and I have to carry my sketchbooks and equipment I’m worried they’ll get damaged.
And the park and ride means I have to get to buses and even then a walk which is again out of the question if it rains.
Really hope that the buses will be back on soon if not I think I’ll invest in a sledge for the winter !!!

We checked out transport before applying to Bath Spa and also tried walking the route which took 45 minutes up hill in good weather without carrying all the textiles samples and equipment. It is totally unacceptable not providing transport as advertised. If cut backs are needed just reduce the frequency of the buses, stopping them altogether is a travesty.Paul Harrison-Ray (Evesham, 2020-09-01)
