This area should remain as it currently is, forever, untouched and left free of pollutants at all costs. It is delicate and beautiful and wild.Kelly Beaulieu (Haines Junction, 2024-11-25)

Need to choose another location that is not in the Alsek Valley with water and wind issues. Why not a brownfield site already disturbed that is not in a natural valley.Gillian McKee (Whitehorse, 2024-11-26)

I live in the area where the LTF was planned to be built. I live on land that I have bought right next to Bear Creek. Our family lives off the grid and we depend on Bear Creek for our water consumption. With the high winds that we have, the creek will very likely be contaminated from debris carried by the wind in the surrounding environment, including Bear Creek. The LTF should be built in another location.Maria Pare (Haines Junction, 2024-11-26)

The proposed contaminated soil Land Treatment Facility near Kluane National Park poses significant risks to public health, the environment, and the community. This is not an appropriate site.Peter Stephenson (Whitehorse, 2024-11-27)

I lived in Haines Junction this summer and it was the most beautiful place I have seen. In a world where there is not much wild left, it is important to protect a wild which so many species depend on to survive.Ethan Brown (Calgary, 2024-11-29)

Protect the watershed and the neighborhood. Bring the contamination site where the conditions are met for a site like this. Find a site in lower altitude with less wind activity.Richelle Clunies-Ross (Canyon Creek, 2024-11-29)

This is our Sacred land. It’s absolutely revolting! Especially to not include the community and First Nation. The site needs to be researched and moved. Just shows how much the government doesn’t care!Pascale Dickson (Burwash Landing, 2024-11-30)

I signed the petition because I believe it is crucial to protect the area from harm and ensure its preservation for future generations.Zandra Lopez (Destruction Bay, 2024-11-30)

I'm signing because the arguments regarding the current location appear to me as entirely valid. The notion that some kind of membrane barrier can be a long term solution is absurd. In time, a barrier will defeade and break down, will be susceptible to machinery damage through wear and tear and of course accidents. Even a concrete pad would break down in time. This type of industrial waste treatment site would require permanent monitoring and management of the site to ensure safety of drinking water and off site contamination of either the land and surrounding waters. Certainly such a proposal cannot be allowed to affect the aquifers that people and wildlife will depend on for hundreds of years.Robert Florkiewicz (Whitehorse, 2024-12-01)

I have skied, hiked, biked in the Alsek Valley with my growning sons, husband and dogs for over 20 years. Some intact wilderness needs to stay that way. There are other sites within Haines Junction that could be used. Near the landfill or the sewage ponds.Cindi Cowie (Haines Junction, 2024-12-06)

I am signing because I am an avid user of this Valley and a treatment facility of this nature has no place in the Alsek Valley. This is a major wildlife corridor and recreational area for many residents and visitors. This would be a step backwards and I can even believe that they would consider putting a facility like this in a place such as the Alsek valley. Look somewhere else Castle Rock.David Martin (Ibex Valley, 2024-12-10)

This proposal is one that is so clearly outside the principles of good environmental stewardship that it is outstanding. Water is the ultimate resource that when compromised destroys all physically and causes loss of hope in the system and our leaders. It is intuitively obvious that the plan is flawed and besides the ecology of the watershed will be negatively affected and those who propose it and support it will be responsible for the loss of health in the people who live downstream. Full stop. But the other puzzling feature to reflect on as a citizen is that it is a project clearly put forward not for the general concept of handling contaminated soil but the details of where and how that make the company and its sponsors the most profit. I cannot see where the CAFN government and the national Park and the Provincial Park that they are co-managing can rationalize at the same time approving a project that will destroy the very reason they said they are there to protect forever! This is total hypocrisy not well explained and never forgiven. There is no such thing as the euphemism "mitigate" implies.

I live in the afected area. There are studies from YG that deam the area not recommended for this kind of activity. The approval of a plant of this characteristics should be hold until a Land Use Plan for Kluane region, due to its socioeconomical and environmental impact to the area.Albert Oriol Surroca (Haines Junction, 2024-12-12)

I do not agree with this, are you guys that dumb,to wreck the environment in that area, keep all the waste near whitehorse where it can be trucked out or processedRICK Hilgersom (Whitehorse, 2024-12-12)

From year to year I’ve witnessed changes in the river, glaciers and surroundings environment alone. I fear that already with the pressure of climate change — adding this project into the area is risky and could be devastating. As someone whose had the privilege and honour to spend time and guide on the Alsek River I can say for certain it is truly extraordinary place that feels like one of the last truly wild pristine corners left of the world.Danielle Lister (Whitehorse, 2024-12-12)

I think that there are inherent risks with the proposed LTF. I think that there are other suitable sites that pose less risk to residents.Rob Moore (Haines Junction, 2024-12-15)

The Proposed Contaminated Soil Land Treatment Facility in the Alsek Valley is an ill conceived and irresponsible project. While recognizing the need for such a facility the location is wrong for so many reasons. A location in an abandoned gravel pit between Haines Junction and Whitehorse, away from surface water, strong winds, and private residences and one which would serve both communities, must be found. It is simply gross negligence to even propose the current Alsek Valley location.Michael Schmidt (Haines Jct, 2024-12-20)
