My Irish ancestors were forced to leave their homeland or die. Such horrific circumstances mark families for generations.

The disgusting and vile process of this act of slow genocide caused by Economic and Social Policies of the British Government, has been conveniently erased from History Books. Calling it 'The Great Famine' is a gross insult to those whose potato fields were deliberately left to rot while cheaper imported potatoes were bought from Holland via the 'Free Market". 'Ireland: Her Own' by T.A. Jackson tells the real story of this and should be made available in all schools, colleges and universities across The Globe ...

Every girl has a right to an education, but close to chockgoespur, gaibandha, bangladesh girls around the area are not in school, and even more struggle to remain where they belong – in the classroom. Every day, girls are taken out of school, married far too young, and subjected to violence in school. And yet, it’s proven that with an education, girls can lift themselves – and everyone around them – out of poverty.

I learned a lot by reading up on that era and from youtube videos. Bare in mind the English had potato blight as well and they were not starving to death. And the Irish didn't live on the potato only. Where did all of their livestock suddenly go? Their other crops? Ships left Ireland every day, loaded with food taken from the Irish, starving them to death.

I have always questioned the undisclosed facts of the great hunger.

Because I believe it was genocide and not a famine caused by the British and not by Irish.

I am signing this petition to honor all of my McCarthy, McCoy and Spellman ancestors, who were harmed by the genocide and starvation perpetrated upon them by England. I am half Irish, a quarter Danish and a quarter English. May imperialist attitudes cease, and freedom reign for all peoples of the planet Earth. All is forgiven, and will be remembered in our history. "We are summoned by the events of history, to perform the tasks, God has assigned, this day." Amen. By Fr. Rudolf Schneckenburg

I signed because I deeply feel that because of the genocide and the slave trade my family was torn from our mother land. I feel my true identity and life was stolen from my family, myself and my children. Not only that but knowing how my family was tortured...the world NEEDS to know the truth. If anyone of my family had passed away during the genocide then myself and my children would not have even been a whisper in the wind.

My parents are Irish. Most people have no idea for Irelands history but are aware of the Jewish Holocaust.

Making light of human suffering is wrong!

My grandmother told me of this more than 50 years ago and cried. We are "Scot's Irish" and came to the US before the famine but she had family there. What of all those who died of complications getting here? I understand Canada has a monument for all those who died on the ships or soon after. What about them? And those forced to fight in the Civil War?
