Every Deaf and Hard of Hearing people regardless of what sign language they use to communicate with Deaf people and interpreters, it is basic human right to have access to sign language. All South Africans Deaf community need everyone's support and help to spread the word about why they are deprived of sign language for communication access purposes. South Africans Deaf community are demanding equal rights for South Africans Deaf community to be able to have access to sign language and allow South African Sign Language to be officially recognized as 12th Official Language in South Africa.

Without SASL being an official language, Deaf South Africans will NEVER be able to study a home language. Only official languages can be taken as Home Language or First Additional Language according to the South African Schools Act. THAT is discrimination!

Deafinitely! SASL is a full language and SA has the most liberal and progressive Constitution, but has not actioned this. The SASL CAPS curriculum is availble and being implimented, so now is the time to make the language an official language.

I signed this petition because when the Government officially recognises South African Sign Language (SASL), Deaf people can enjoy their full rights on an equal basis with others, as enshrined in the constitution and improve their quality of life by means of equal education opportunities. Please show your support by signing this petition.

Communication barriers had been our problem for decades and we are desperately to break the barrier so we can have better access across South Africa.

We have given the speakers of the 11 Official Languages the Rights they need to be successful citizens in this country as a result of good linguistic skills of being taught in their mother language. It is about time we gave the Deaf the same opportunity.

I was a former st Vincent school pupil. I feel strongly that the sign lanuague deaf children using should be regnozised as an official sign language for deaf people. Look at other countries such as UK, USA, Europe, Australia etc

Have worked with deaf children and teachers...have friends who are deaf and all need to be equally acknowledged. It is a life skill and rewarding too.

I was born Deaf and SASL - South African Sign Language is my first language and it needs to be recognized as the twelveth language. I am fifty two years old and it is about time to make SASL an official language for South Africa.
