#26 translating the laws

2011-07-05 14:32

Since the transition process started I keep hearing that the laws can not be translated fully from Dutch to English due to subtleties in the languages. I come from Europe where, when one EU laws is passed it is translated in every official language of the 27 EU members countries, that include Dutch and English languages. It has to be so for the EU to function. So, surely there must be some qualified translators out there able to translate Dutch laws into English when it comes to the BES islands. I guess for Holland it is mostly a matter of forking the cost for such professional service.

What places the attitude in an even more special daylight is the comment in the Daily Herald d.d.18.6.2011:
"Williams confirmed coordination with the Prosecutors Office of responsibilities for custody rights.
Asked if he planned an information outreach programme to inform the public about child abuse and related loss of parental rights, the answer was that the public should already be aware of the law." This while he himself appears not to be aware of laws about languages on the BES-islands.

#21: We for we? -

Highly unlikely they'll sign this, they prefer signing blank sheets of paper so the details of any arrangement  they agreed to can be decided as they rest themselves in business class on their way back over here.

Which hotel is this idiot staying at?

We understand the Dutch language and we've understood every word of derision from all who've collaborated. The reason Dutch cannot be translated well... Does not exist.

It's not the fault of the Civil Self Servants they send... they just wanted rid of them.

Enough is enough.

Start with this idiot & move on to the next.

Politicians? Grow a pair.

Get rid of him and move on to the next jackass.

We done now.

Red tape is killing the people of this island.

And James? Go back to where you came from sweetheart.

About time somebody burned one down.

It may not achieve a thing, but it seems that it's relieving some tension in a none-violent manner.

As always the elected politicians are clearly forcing their thumbs into their ears.

With the exception of one man who always dresses in white. What with GEBE's hike, his electricity bill just for laundry, must be through the roof :9)

A short overview of the Saban history
SABA-TIJDBALK

……….. Arowaks
1000? – 1500? Caribs
1640 – 1656 Nederland (57 Nederlanders + 54 Engelsen Schotten, Ieren)
1656 Engels en alle Nederlanders gedeporteerd naar St. Maarten
1656 Nederlands maar met weinig Nederlanders
1672-1679 Engeland
1678 – 1781 Nederland WIC (Zeeland)
1781-1784 Engeland
1784 – 1795 Nederland
1795 – 1801 –Frankrijk
1801 – 1802 Engeland
1802- 1810 Frankrijk
1910 – 1816 Engeland
1816 – 2011 Nederand
N.B.:
In 1657 vacature voor engels sprekende ambtenaar
In alle kolonies over de hele wereld
namen Nederlanders de taal over van anderen.

Conclusion: not the Dutch are imposing their language upon others and there has always been a harmony, a mutual understanding on Saba. Even in a way that Sabans dilsliked for centuries too much influence of any nation, Dutch, English or French. Sabans always wanted to have their own say over their own island.
This balance between languages, this mutual understanding and acceptation, this sometimes fragile harmony should be maintained. And yes, especially the Dutch speaking people on Saba don’t like that someone from Aruba and moreover in a function that requests empathy and carefullness has had a negative effect on this harmony.

#41 When's the next election?

2011-07-07 16:02

So now 1/4 of the population of Saba have signed this petition? Maybe we can hold the politician's feet to the fire at the next election? They're quite happy to enjoy the benefits of their office but are nowhere to be seen now it's all gone pear-shaped...just remember Chris & Will, you're not "appointed" by the Dutch (unlike those jobs-worths filling the hotel rooms and Spoiling the Unspoiled Queen..you're elected to serve the Sabans! Makes Cuchi's recent stand at the election look even more attractive...I trust he would have stood up for islanders in a more vocal fashion than the current council...as a previous post indicated...try growings some!

But some are unforgivable or make clear that it has more to do with character, prejudices, hatred or other aspect that will not be changed anymore when a person is grown up, adult and educated.

The Break Down.

#49 Knock, knock.

2011-07-08 07:09

It's been 7 days since the press release.

It appears that It's Rabbit season on Saban's & the people who live here.

So we can insult with no regard and it doesn't hurt anyone here huh?

I disagree and will digress,

1, By European standards our Governor Johnathan Johnson is a pedophile and would have been investigated.
2. Bruce Zagers, Get over it your wife seems to want to do anyone but you.
3. Christopher Johnson, you got thrown in the deep end, never worked a hard day in your life... and regularly insult the electorate when you're on a drunk.
4. Carl Buncamper, nobody gives a shit that you're gay, it ain't an issue, you're not special and certainly not hated for your sexuality.
5. Rolando Wilson? WTF.
6. Mr. Levenstone... At least you signed the petition.

Sshhhhhhhhusshhhh!

Hush my mouth

Sack James Williams now!
