The thing is - people get up in arms about these deaths when they randomly occur - and they do. So then we punish this beautiful precious animal for doing what is instinctively right for it because for whatever reason , it decided today was the day.

This is very very sad a life has been lost, a family heartbroken but just because you take an animal and put it behind bars it does not make is domestic/tame/unwild. At least return him to the wild where he should be. its not his fault, its their nature.

Oz is a wild animal. Keepers love these animals, but he is still wild.
I am sure the keeper would not want him put down.
It is heartbreaking for the family of Samantha, but I am sure they also would not want this beautiful animal put down.

Some animals can be domesticated. These animals are different, that is why they are behind fences and barriers.

This animal is and will always be a wild animal and humans going into their enclosure during captivity will always be taking that risk (sadly for the keeper)

It's not the animals fault. Zoo keepers know the risk and she would not want the animal euthanized.

I would NOT like to see this majestic animal put down.
It is after all a "WILD" animal.
Caretakers need to exercise extreme caution when dealing with these animals and not treat them like "pets".
PLEASE SAVE HIM !

The tiger is in a cage. People should respect his territory. Complacency is dangerous. Oz is a tiger, not puddy tat!

I do feel for the keepers family but at the end of the day he chose to become a keeper and oz never chose to be kept. When your working with wild animals you cant ever let your guard down. He would have been better off at the auckland zoo he was well behaved there and happy.

You can not put down a wild animal for what they are born for because humans want to contain such a wild beast, wild cat vs human era.
Condolences go out to the family of Samantha through this ordeal.

This is a wild animal living by the rules put before it, the responsibility for keepers safety rests soley with the zoo and the keepers themselves. Very sad but NOT tigers fault.

why should oz be put down he was defending his territory, if any one was in the wrong the zoo should be made accountable for this

Oz is a wild animal not a house trained cat! Wild animals are unpredictable and can be dangerous and therefore shouldn't be punished for acting as they would in the wild

THE WOMAN OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T OBLIGE TO THE SAFTEY RULES, REMEMBER SHE CAME INTO HIS TERRITORY NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THE TIGER IS NOT AT FAULT FOR RELYING ON ITS BASIC INSTINCTS, SHE SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED PROPER SAFTEY PROTOCOL

Not the tigers fault, he shouldn't have been able to get at the keeper, I feel so sorry for them both.

I worked at Zion Wildlife gardens when Dalu was killed by Abu the white tiger. They had to shoot him as he would not leave Dalu and there was another keeper in the enclosure as well. Very differnt circumstances.

This is a wild animal kept in captivity by humans, there are risks to this, why kill an animal because it was being wild? it is up to the humans managing the captivity to protect both animal and people, one reasons for zoo's to operate are for education and protection of species, does this knee jerk reaction 'to kill the animal' undermine what the zoo's are trying to do for both species and people?

Because these animals are a wild animal and only doing what they know, and should not be held in cages in the first place please spare the poor Tiger for our future generations to be able to see

Condolences to Samantha's family but you take a huge risk being in a wild animals enclosure while that wild animal is in there.
I just don't think its fair that Oz should be put down for being a wild animal plus hes breed is becoming close to extinction so it would be a shame that he loses his life for being a wild animal.

This is indeed a very tragic set of events. But it is not viable to return Oz to the wild after an entire life of captivity. However great caution will be needed around him in the future. And odviously safety protocal was not followed. Not Oz's fault. Maybe we need to look at why these animals are incaptivity in the first place It is to satisfy our curiousty.

Sadly the keeper, and her love of Oz, and caring for him put her at risk. This is part of keeping these magnificent animals in captivity. Part of the purpose of zoos and the like is protecting endangered species and ensuring their survival. Their is always the posibility of danger. She was in his domain. She knew the risk. Im positive this woman would NOT want Oz destroyed. Her lifes work would have been for nothing! SAVE OZ!!!

I don't believe it is ever the animal's fault when a tragedy like this occurs in captivity. The fault is generally human error. The human being in the animal's territory challenges the animals innate behaviour.
