I signed this petition because the Torrance Refinery Action Alliance has been working hard to have the oil refinery stop using Hydrofluoric Acid based on the facts. The company has not responded. They just stall and fight and stall again. If they won't do what is only prudent and safe - then we should make them by law. Too many lives are depending on a corporation that has shown disregard for it's employees and neighbors - meaning thousand and thousands of people - to allow them to continue business as usual. In short, big corporate bullies won't do anything for the public good or safety unless they are strong armed themselves.

Hydrofluoric Acid can kill thousands within minutes. Given Exxon Mobil / Torrance Safety Record for the past 20 years, We should all be VERY CONCERNED about our lives and excessive air pollution.

Contrary to Exxon Mobils Mission Statment: "We pride ourselves as great neighbors." Exxon Mobil are horrible neighbors! They do not care about our safety here in Torrance.  This is why they are stonewalling all governmental outlets investigating the accidents.  They will never admit any fault.  They are arrogant and their bottom and top line is money First, Safety Last!

Exxon Mobil has no integrity! Their business practices are unethical and so are the jack a-- that manage, operate and line their pockets at the community's expense.  GET OUT EXXON!! WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE ANYMORE.  GO BACK TO TEXAS!

HF is an extremely dangerous chemical. It is outrageous to use this in an urban setting. Accidents happen

Hydrofluoric acid is dangerous, but it is present in household items such as rust remover. I think the petition as worded is too extreme and thus I fear that this important effort to improve our local environment will be taken less seriously than it should be.

I work 1-2 miles from the refinery. I don't care how much money it bring to Torrance. It's not worth the safety of the citizens.

Exxon Mobil must be transparent with its plan to remove hydrofluoric acid from its refinery.

Thanks

ExxonMobil actually stores approximately 250,000 lb of modified hydrofluoric acid on site at any given time. The acid, among the most dangerous known, forms a cloud of ground-hugging vapor when released into the atmosphere. It can cause gruesome and painful injuries or death.

I have lived in the South Bay my entire life, and never did I or my family know about the seriousness of this issue until I read your article. There are just too many risks and far too many innocent lives at stake to allow this to continue.

Safer processes exist.

Only 2 refineries in the state use this high risk method. That is compelling data. I am concerned and would like to see local and state leaders take a hard look at the total risk vs. profits focused on refinery, local safety agencies and health/property insurance .
