Once our history is gone it is gone. The supermarket industry in its current form is unsustainable. Serious thought should be given to the preservation of historical buildings rather Tha short term profit for private industry.

This is an iconic building. It means so much to so many. It needs protecting for historical purposes. It seems only a short time ago that we were celebrating the discovery of its beautiful facade and now it may be knocked down? We do not need another supermarket - let Lidl use the vacant Waitrose store that lasted 5 minutes!

This building is a prominent landmark and retains much of its original art-deco style. Hornchurch and Havering do not need another supermarket but Towers could provide a much needed venue and auditorium for performances and concerts (Queens Theatre is too small to be viable ) The building is a flagship of the optimistic period when the area developed as a suburb and is an important part of social history. Its facade needs to be listed at least to Grade2 level.

I recall the days when it was our Odeon cinema. Seldom missed a Saturday morning matinee when I was a kid. A multitude of happy memories - please don't pull it down.

This is an attractive historic building and should be protected. i'm all for stopping the demolition and preventing yet another boring plain warehouse type building replacing it.

These days, what is quite often missing from town centres is a sense of community. Hornchurch High Street offers this to its local residents and the Mecca Bingo Hall is a part of this. The bingo hall offers local residents a place to go to socialise regardless of age.
Please do not destroy our heritage for something which our local community does not need - another supermarket.

There are not many places where people of all ages can go for a few hours alone and feel safe, this building is cosy and inviting, they closed down the MECCA BINGO IN ESSEX ROAD when I lived in London, it is still empty 15 years+ on, because they were offered a hugh amount of money, something went wrong, greed is a nasty thing. Let us continue playing Bingo, I am sure somewhere else can be found.

PLEASE get rid of Mecca Bingo. The building however,  should be saved and converted into something fitting for the area. Maybe another arts venue, or back into a cinema. There's little in the way of any original architecture in Hornchurch,  so to loose another historically interesting building would be a terrible shame. However, I would not miss the bingo or Mecca in any way.

My daughter is a manager at Mecca Hornchurch, she is very concerned about her colleagues jobs and alSO THE LARGE NUMBER OF ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO GO TO bINGO AS IT'S THEIR ONLY WAY OF SOCIALISING.

I wish it could return to a cinema. Hornchurch has such a wonderful history of which this building is a part. I am sure as many people who use it as a bingo hall would use it as a cinema. I strongly object to yet more beautiful buildings being knocked down and being replaced with flats.

I can't believe they are going to demolish the Mecca building which is part of Hornchurch history for another supermarket. Waitrose didn't last and nor will anybody else. I love going to bingo

I love this place and as it may be to late for Mecca we need to keep this building the way it is it is a part of Hornchurch heritage it's been apart of this community for about 83 year we say no to lidl.

Get Lidl to build Hornchurch  a new bingo hall ,with all the profit they are making ,it will be sadly missed by young and old
