Serious concerns for the future of the people who are in the Portlaoise catchment area? What hospital has the capacity to facilitate all extra numbers?? Lives will be lost?? It's a disgrace!!

Portlaoise Accident and Emergency service is a much needed, life saving service that we need open 24/7. The community has been fighting closures and downgrades at Portlaoise Hospital for years. We need to change the political will to something more positive and get continuity of the current 24 hour service for the expanding population of Laois and the surrounding Dublin commuter belt. Complex Surgery may need to move however however how does closing an Accident and Emergency Department at night provide for better and safer care sooner? It doesn't. Services may need to be streamlined but streamlined should not mean almost halving the service currently in place an adequate solution which is consistent, reliable and functional for the whole communities needs, should be in place. I think it's a basic human right.

i wouldn,t have my son today if it wasn,t for an excellent midwife and gynaecologist in Portloaise. this will cause deaths downgrading it. stop underfunding it and it would pass any inspections.

A&E services in Portlaoise hospital are extremely important to save lives in an already expanding population, these services need to be sustained and improved NOT reduced.

i wouldn,t have my son today but for the excellent midwife and gynaecologist who gave me an emergency caesarian in 2000. people will die without this 24hr A/E dept n lack of surgical n medical care, and paediatric services. Laois is huge and needs its own functioning hospital. stop underfunding it and it will pass all inspections

It's funny how people have good things to say about the hospital now, it's appears to be to late !!!! When something like this happens it effects everyone...... It's outrageous
