-Likewise as a university we need a dedicated AV team to keep lecture theatres and teaching rooms running.

Yes!! number one complaint from students is having non-working lecture theatre equipment and not being able to get someone in quickly to fix it, the next NSS will surely refect this!!!

The loss of this service will definitely be greater than the savings!

Yes, I agree with that. The second most stupid decision was establishing the four institutes. Let's hope they are abandonned quickly. They will never work and they seems to be no insight or guidance as to how they are meant to function independently and with each other. Apaprently other institutions moved away from this idea years ago.

Users of AV and IT support need a prompt response to calls, especially when you have a board room full of people watching you grapple with a projector that doesn't work. The whole programme badly thought out and introduced...stakeholder consultation????

#7 Another brilliant idea

First we lost administrator's rights.

Then we lost the helpdesk.

What's the next going to be?

Oh, I have got a good idea. Why don't we get rid of all the computers!? No one really needs them.

What's next?

What bemused me was how the responsibility of lecture theatres, projectors etc. was placed on the shoulders of a different section. How would any of us feel if that happened to us? I think it is an absolute insult to memebers of Media Services and IT to treat them in this way. The institution should no insight. Then to remove the IT helpdesk, something that has proved vital to my daily functioning, showed total complete ignorance for the needs of the institution.

The Helpdesk is essential for carrying out an efficient service.

Notice an email has gone out today spinning the helpdesk closure as a "new converged" service. Presume this email has gone out because of the petition - don't hold out much hope that they'll take any notice of us.

i'm not allowed to put any software on my computer. I thought it was bad enough that I have to phone up for an administrator to finalise any software installment but now I apparently have to wait for who knows how long for someone to press a button to allow installement of something I can do for myself. That's not my only gripe but frankly it is a good example of how this service is going to go down the pan.

#14: V -

I agree. I used to pay some interest in computing and try and solve issues for myself. now i don't even bother - I just do things in the easiest possible way, rarely updating programs. Can't even download add ons for some things or take advantage of interesting programmes which are designed to help you focus like ommwriter. It makes things so slow and inefficient. It's embarrasing actually.

Worked from home yesterday - the computer was so quick and I could download updates and needed programs in a flash. Surprise surprise I didn't f**k the computer up!
