I am deaf & have used sign language as an important language. people all over the world have different languages of their own, especially learning new languages is an opportunity to know what other people speaks & the same with sign language as a second language.

I fully support that sign languages should be used in education programs, especially fore deaf children and also as a Language Other Than English (LOTE) subject to be taught to hearing students.

Like a lot of things in this country at the moment, we are going backwards, here is another example.

I used to work with deaf children for many years. I enjoyed teaching sign language BSL to hearing children in primary . This important for deaf children to mix with hearing children

We must allow the deaf themselves to decide what works best for them. Communication is precious. We need more to use as many ways as possible to bridge the gap rather than cutting back.

Everyone has the right to a language that allows them development, growth, and easy interaction with a community of others who speak the same language. Creativity and relationship require a shared language with others. Sign languages afford children access to others and to their own thoughts.

If not for sign language, I would not be what I am now.

One important issue remains: deaf-teachers as well as hearing parents have to do more to come into contact with the world of the Deaf, which offers a culture, an identity and a history of its own.
Using the oralist method is unsuitable for the education and upbringing of the deaf child, and can therefore be judged as a form of educational crime.
