Dear Minister of Tourism - Please unlock leisure camping (and travel)
Leisure camping tourists/service providers and suppliers wholeheartedly support the measures our government has put in place to contain the spread of COVID19 in SA.
The lockdown regulations already had a measurable negative impact on the sustainability of close to 1 000 smaller campsites. The economies of rural areas, smaller towns such as Bela Bela, and geographic areas that offer a substantial number of campsites such as the coastal areas of KwazuluNatal, the Eastern and Western Cape is under siege. Thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and the livelihood of tens of thousands of dependants, are under threat.
Saving our Camping Industry (SCI) has an Unlock Plan that can be implemented with immediate effect. The Minister of Tourism is therefore formally requested to engage with SCI to refine the Unlock Plan.
