Do not close the road on Sechelt beach at Trail Bay to traffic. ( Boulevard) Keep the small section open for the public to use as one of the only beach accesses to Sechelt beach.

Sorry to bother you again, here is a copy of a letter I sent to council members, if I get to go to council I would be asking for your support.

Also an article in the coast reporter today.  it is one lady who lives on the Boulevard, there are so many of us users, we need to go to the meeting and display our non-support of this closing to parking on the boulevard. We now have 220 signatures.

NEW INTEREST

You may have noticed the renewed attention to this issue. A resident on Boulevard is petitioning to change the use of the road. Please ask your friends, family and neighbours to sign our petition, I will present it to the council again and also talk to the coast reporter. 

Boulevard

I just heard from Mayor Siegers.  As of right now, there is no confirmed plan for the Boulevard. Their original plan has not been approved. The council has a grant and it will be updated. I asked if there was a consideration of closing the Boulevard to traffic and she said not at the moment. I will be keeping my eye on this and will continue with the petition in case we should need it. It is always good to talk with the people in control to get the information you need. I have asked Mayor Siegers to keep me in the loop. it would be sad to find out later that the changes were happening without being able to express our wishes.  thank you for all your signatures, I will keep it safe for future use if needed.

Every time I see cars going down there, I wonder why on earth they would want to. Some times of day it can be so busy with pedestrians, it is an obvious hazard. This is the most accessible and probably best used walking path in Sechelt, used by those with accessibility issues and not. So it seems reasonable to consider closing it to vehicles. Maybe there is a compromise, like figuring out when there is the most pedestrian traffic, and closing it to vehicle traffic during certain hours of day only. This might also allow it to still be used for overnight parking.

Hello Sara , I think some of the cars going down Boulevard have mobility-challenged and older people inside them, why do they go there? because it is the only access they have to the ocean. Boulevard is also the most used place for vehicle access to the ocean as well as for walking, being the only place there is to sit quietly in your car near to the ocean. ( Davis Bay is not the same, smelly traffic, noisy and unsafe.) Almost all of our coastline has been sold to private owners making accessibility to the ocean pretty lean. Many of the vehicles have people who sit and enjoy the ocean, not being able to walk far. There is a lot of respect for pedestrians by the vehicle drivers. Your compromise might be viable. Many times there are very few pedestrians but some vehicles parked with their occupants quietly reading, enjoying lunch, and taking in the sea air. There are always more pedestrians during the summer months too, June - September. The other issue is that it also helps with the mental health of those unable to park and walk from the few parking spots there. Sitting in your car in a parking lot is not very beneficial but being able to see the ocean and view of the island is extremely helpful. Getting into nature and enjoying our oceans should be available to ALL. thank you for your comment.
