Stop Vaccine Mandates at the University of Stellenbosch Now!
I’m writing this letter to ask the administrators and faculty at Stellenbosch University to consider the science behind their proposed decision to institute Vaccine Mandates and to ask: what is your reasoning behind mandating COVID-19 Vaccines? Below are a series of questions that should be considered before mandating COVID-19 vaccines
- Do Vaccines stop the spread of COVID-19?
A study published in the lancet suggests that this in not the case.
Below is an article on the previous study.
- What is the risk/benefit for university age people?
Quote “For those under 30, the risks of serious morbidity and mortality are close to zero. By contrast, early indications from passive surveillance systems (which call for follow-up investigation) and a June 10 review by the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee indicated an excess risk for heart inflammation, especially in men 30 and younger”
Vaccine mandates at Stellenbosch University — or any other University — make no sense at all. There is no scientific evidence backing this position. In fact, the mandates pose more risk than COVID-19 itself for this demographic. If the vaccines don’t stop transmission and have very little (if not zero) benefit to students, then why are they being put at risk? There is no point. Vaccines are effective in protecting the vulnerable, who clearly should be vaccinated (assessed on a case by case/personal medical decision basis).
I ask those making the decision to reconsider. Mandates are not supported by the data available and is therefore unscientific.
I plead with them not to sacrifice the youngest and brightest in our community based on illogical hysteria.
There is also an argument to be made for personal freedom, that opposes the idea of mandating medical procedures.
Sincerely, Justin Kerrod
