I’m signing in support of those who work in theatre and for whom denying them access to bring their canine friends to work, will cause endless issues.

It is unreasonable to block those working in theatre and performing unsociable hours from attending work with their dogs if they are well behaved and able to be in an offstage area without causing issue.

I would like to see the Adelphi and LW Theatres overturn this stance and return to allowing dogs like Evie to attend work with their owners and thus assisting the work/life balance for owner and dog and also negating excessive expense for daycare.

Seeing Evie and the joy she brings the cast at stage door is always a highlight of a BTTF trip! Dogs bring a little bit of joy to a long day. If offices allow dogs, why can’t a theatre?

I’m signing this because I have loads of friends who have dogs and work in the theatre and not being able to take them into the theatre with them would be a massive burden on them, if sitters or friends cancel last minute and getting a sitter is expensive so every night would be a lot on them.

Dogs should be allowed at theatres. You can’t ban a part of someone’s life from entering the theatre, especially when dog owners who work in theatre work long hours and can’t leave their dog alone for long periods of time

Members of the theatre profession already have to give up a lot to work in this line of work. We work generally unsociable hours in a job that whilst rewarding is tough both physically and mentally. Dogs provide so much more than simply being a pet. Companionship, support and a sense of normality of life. Having worked in a theatre which had two or more dogs regularly visit the building this not only boosted general morale but also proved this could easily be facilitated with zero issues. In the entire year there was not one instance of either dog being a problem. To deny dogs into the building, suddenly and with no reason, is senseless and shows a total disregard for the added pressure and financial burden dog care can be. It is also sad as someone who was looking to get a dog, seeing how easily and well facilitated this can be. I’m shocked and urge others to sign so that we may negotiate and pave a way together to more theatres becoming dog friendly.

As long as the dog is very well behaved, is there really a problem? and trust me I know Evie and she is super well behaved and is part of the crew that adore her.
Can you imagine the cost of up to £50 - £60 per day and picking a dog up from doggie day care at 11pm at night.

Dogs make everything better. They lower blood pressure and bring smiles to everyone. If a dog misbehaves in a theatre, ban the owner not the dog. If it poos, fine the owner don’t kick the dog out

There is no reason for a well behaved dog to not be allowed. They lift spirits of the company, act as pest control and stop people needing to be off work due to a lack of accessible care.
We work out of the regular day care options and therefor, there isn’t care for a two show day for a dog that finishes late enough.
If the choice is my dog comes to work or I cannot come to work because there is no dog care. I will not be in. You cannot leave a living thing alone that long and a job is not worth it.

This is so sad! I’ve always been able to bring my dog Audrey to the theatre particularly when there is an emergency and that has been a huge help. Hopefully they will rethink this new rule for no reason 😞

Being a performer isn’t like a normal 9-5 job, we don’t have a long lunch where we can pop home to let the dog out we have a 15 minute interval or an hour (if lucky) break between shows on a double show day. I agree with this statement! Why shouldn’t dogs be allowed in theatres? After all, they may calm a cast member down if they are anxious backstage. I believe theatres are actually a safe place to dogs to be, rather than a kennel !

Because not only do dogs provide a little bit of sanity on very long (and physically dark) days inside, bringing joy to everyone. But we work such unsociable hours that make it very hard to arrange and pay for care. We're not all lucky to have someone at home who can just be there all the time for our pets. If we were to work in an office and more regular day schedule it's easier, but theatre and rehearsals do not allow for this.
