These cuts to our law enforcement team are making our streets unsafe and allowing criminals free reign.

The regular police are not visible, people talk to Maria and she is so well respected.

(Tipton St. John, 2017-02-28)

#12

Maria is the only visible police presence in the town, she is the 'go to' person for all issues within the town, saving calls to overstretched resources elsewhere. Maria knows everyone and is known to the local children, often heading off any issues before they start.

(Ottery St Mary, 2017-02-28)

#15

Maria Clapp is so good at her job and the people have great respect for her.

(Ottery St. Mary, 2017-02-28)

I am signing because of the excellent work that PCSO Maria Clapp does. I am a police volunteer on speed watch in Ottery St. Mary which we are only just getting started. I feel that if Maria goes speed watch in Ottery will not get off the ground because we need more volunteers. I fear that police officers will treat speed watch very low on their priority list. It took over two years from when I first volunteered before we could get started, and when speed watch was handed over to Maria we finally started making some progress.

(Ottery St. Mary, 2017-02-28)

She's fully engaged with the local community, visiting schools and clubs, as well as attending school dropoffs where parking can be an issue. As a previous shop owner I have had the pleasure of working closely with PCSOs over a period of 12 years and have seen the very positive results from their work within a community, particularly with young people. A PCSO can bring 'gentle policing' into a teenagers life and prevent them drifting into a life of crime.

(Ottery St Mary, 2017-03-01)

(Ottery St. Mary, 2017-03-07)

#153

Since the 'bobby' on the beat has been taken away PCSO's have become a useful and welcome sight on our streets. Senior officials seem to forget that people feel safer and find it easier to approach them, than sending an email or sitting waiting 45minutes for 101 to answered. Not only this they link in with other agencies such as social services, social housing providers, schools and mental health teams to help tackle ASB etc.... such a shame if they go!!

(Exmouth, 2017-03-08)
