Because I disapprove of the way this relocation has been done. We are not being given the facts. Responsible people are passing the buck. No transparency.Derrick Vrede (Cape Tiwn, 2020-04-04)

We as residents were not consulted and because of the security, health and loss of property value. We already dont have a decent sports facility and now the city chooses to mess it up further.Carla Abrahams (Cape Town, 2020-04-04)

We have enough problems in Strandfontein already and as much as CoCT promises to service these people, it will not be done and they will not take responsibility for their actions. Why are these people not moved to the leafy suburbs like Newlands, Greenpoint etc. Because J. P. Smith will not allow this to happen to his buddies in those areas. Strandfontein is not a dumping ground for your problems that you can't solve Dan Plato, Zahid Badroodien, Elton Jansen and J. P. Smith.Avril Vrede (Strandfontein Village, 2020-04-04)

I am signing this petition as I am very upset about the fact the COCT and Mayor Dan Pluto has not consulted us the Residents of STRANDFONTEIN about moving, first 2000, now I hear 4000 homeless people from the CBD onto our Sports field, as it is our children have no facilities in this place, now you want to take their Sports field away. We know how this is going to end, moving the people here is easy, but moving them back, now that's another story. Mr. Pluto please do me a favour and move them to Constancia or Bishop's Court, there is ample space there, stop moving my people to the outskirts of the CBD to be forgotten about!!!!Yolande Stober-Smith (Cape Town, 2020-04-04)

I am really disturbed by the poor decision taken to put the homeless on Strandfontein sports field. Why not putting them in proper building, they are not animals to live on a open field. What about, Civic centres, hotels, school buildings not being utilized during this period. This is another stupid political move.Rushdah Tregonning (STRANDFONTEIN, 2020-04-04)

Tired of the City treating Strandfontein like we leftovers. This has been my home for 40 years why rob us tax & rate payers from our rights. Why not put them on Kuilsriver Caravan Park where they already have illegal residents, Soetwater, Cape Town stadium (absolute white elephant) which would've had all the necessary resources. This is clearly revenge on a community from the powers that be.Lezel Jacobs (Cape Town, 2020-04-04)

Of the safety of my community, the fact that these people will be roaming our streets on a daily looking for food, drugs or even alcohol putting us at risk of not only the virus but our safety aswell, it will bring down the value of our property because I'm almost certain these people will stay even after lock downSuaad Benjamin (Cape Town, 2020-04-04)

This is completely unfair to both parties. The grounds is not suited for shelter and this will be a huge issue in our community.. Crime will riseNaeema Kemp (Cape town, 2020-04-04)

I'm a resident! I pay my rates !! The DA for the first time didn't see my vote at the last election and won't at the next. City of cape town se gat! So many people moved to one area?! Are you crazy?! Is this apartheid again??!!Jamie Lawrence (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

I am standing together with the community of strandfontein against the the placing of 2000 foreigners on the strandfontein sportsfield.Marco Van wyk (Mitchellsplain, 2020-04-05)

This will place strsin on a area without the necessary services and retail places. The sport grounds is the only open space where this community can be active from the everyday stresses.Clive 2 (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

The move of 4000 homeless people to an area that is already challenged with many social ills will have major negative impact by this decision. The homework and research done by the city to make this decision, I feel was not done through due diligence. There is is definitely financial gain somewhere in this plan of moving the homeless to strandfontein. The Cape flats certainly does not need further breaking down, It needs building up. I can't believe this decision was thought through knowing that there is a primary and high school 20-50 meters away. Imagine the fear of those families and children. Not well thought out Period.. Or maybe too well thought out once again.Mogamat Badir Barendse (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

I have family in Strandfontein and Mitchell’s Plain and this will affect them in a very negative way. Why not use the Greenpoint Staduim if you so want to help these people .Simone Heynes (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

I don't agree with COCT. Find a alternative place to house the poor. For example... Constantia, Hout Bay, Rondebosch etc

Good day... I was not consulted on this decision....why don't they use the Cape Town Stadium...that area has better controls in place....It also means that this is then guaranteed that the placement is temporary....Leave our Recreational area alone...this is a potential to invite protest actions (are these not the very people who protest for better living conditions) from the people that are placed there, more crime, more free water and electricity on top of what we are already paying for. Do you not forsee future problems when these people will need to be relocated?? Don't you think you are inviting unsanitary conditions into our area?? Let's also look at more people coming to our doorstep begging for money and food. Last but not least this will most definitely affect the values of our properties... Strandfontein is not a dumping site.Karin Bissolati (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

I am signing this petition because we need to keep our ward councilor, the City of Cape Town, regional and national government accountable for their actions. I am also signing so that we can stop apartheid spatial planning and stand up for our rights. We are a minority people still feeling the effects of apartheid legacy. We understand that our political leaders do not keep their promises, and we should strike against this and let them know we are tired of their bullying tactics.Crystal Adams (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

I am a resident and home owner not to far away from the sports field. I appose the Citys decision to lock down thousands of people in our community. The load should be shared throughout the Cape and we should have assurance that they will close these camps once the lock down is over.Tanya Jansen (Strandfontein, 2020-04-05)

This is my home town. My parents and immediate family lives here. This area has low crime and with the relocation of this homeless people it will increase the number of crime and harrasment of residents.Bianca Du Plooy (Cape Town, 2020-04-05)

Im signing, because I have family living in Strandfontein and I live down the road of the sports field. Rocklands is Strandfontein's neighbour and it affects us too. It is not right that COCT dump the homeless onto our doorsteps. Why not house the homeless in the GOODHOPE CENTRERashieda Stober (Cape Town, 2020-04-06)

I’m signing this because placing 2000-4000 people on a community sports field is absurd. Whoever decided on this was not thinking about THE PEOPLE by that I mean the community people and the people who will be placed here. Why not the STADIUMS? With electricity, toilet/shower facilities, surely this accommodates people better than a sports field. In actual fact, why not community halls or places that has a ROOF and is secured enough for people to live in. I am honestly disgusted by the decision taken here.In addition to this, how will the City of Cape Town honestly protect the residents of Strandfontein when the crime rate in the area has increased in the past year or so and nothing has been done to lessen this or the fear amongst the residents? How will these innocent people being place on the sports field be told to just pack their belongings and leave when they are no longer welcome to stay at the sports field? It is sad, honestly. Where will these people go when it is all over? Or will the sports field become home to them for good? If so, what happens to the kids who use the field for extramural activities? There are so many questions we as residents of Strandfontein have but was not given the opportunity ask.
This would not have been tolerated had it been in a more privilege area. It is time to treat everyone EQUALLY.

I'm signing because this is not right. Strandfontein is a very small community, and to bring another 4000 people here is really not going to help with our current situation.Candice Gertse (Cape town, 2020-04-08)
#1314
Im against the moving of people to the Strandfontein Sports ground during lockdown. Why couldn't these 4000 people be placed at facilities in their own areas...Then you would not have a problem by moving up to thousands of people at a time and they would have been in areas that are known to them...With this Corona Virus spreading it would have been a safer option...Charlene De Villiers (Cape Town, 2020-04-09)
