We need real life experience on fusion devices, not just VC backed 3D CAD designs…..

Plasma fusion is of vital importance for the survival of civilised life on Planet Earth.

I have followed, and written about, JET since the days when it was a tiny team working out of a small office in Culham, where I once worked as an experimental researcher. (I attended the official opening of JET.) Progress since then has been staggering, with no sign that it has run out of steam. With ITER years away, closing JET makes no sense.

i know some work done at jet

It is great for all fusion community

Nuclear is the future of energy

JET is doing essential research, eg on D+T plasmas, and control of large plasmas, and ITER is years from being able to heat plasmas and many more years before it will use tritium.

Rod Price (Milton Keynes, 2023-11-21)

Diverse clean and reliable sources of energy are desperately needed to minimise the impact of global heating. Fusion is an essential part of that and JET has been at the forefront of fusion research for decades; closing it now would be an act of vandalism on a global scale.

David Shone (Buckley, 2023-12-02)

Closing JET at this time is short-sighted in the extreme given the current state of the planet.

LAURENCE CAVES (Southam, 2023-12-04)

#1035

I don’t want to see all the progress made so far to be lost

Neil Seymour (High Wycombe, 2023-12-06)

#1043

The UK needs to remain at the forefront of fusion research.

Elliot Tovell (Plymouth, 2023-12-19)

I support extending JET beyond 2023

Christian Avalos (Kenosha, 2023-12-24)

#1046

I want to have a career in fusion.

Tariq Erwa (Glasgow, 2023-12-27)

JET works collaboratively for the elimination of dril dril dril and red hot fission waste trucking and explosion by fusion. Nothing from which to make a bomb...

I am supporting the idea to keep JET beyond 2023!

Henrik Aronsson (Stenkullen, 2024-02-12)

Development of fusion is essential. JET is a valuable resource.

Peter Cripwell (Dublin 4, 2024-02-15)

It would be an incredible mistake to close JET at this stage, given the delay in the ITER timeline. JET is the only machine that can operate in DT and that is capable of confining MeV ions and fusion alpha particles. Keep JET operating untile the next step device becomes operational.

Francesco Porcelli (Torino, 2024-04-18)

#1069

JET is currently the closest experiment to ITER. Closing it will bring fusion research back to the 80s.

Ulises Losada (San Diego, 2024-06-18)

I believe there is a lot of science left to be done on JET

I hope that JET will continue to work

Andrei Kovalev (Aix en Provence, 2024-07-11)

I am a young researcher in plasma physics. I believe that JET still has much to teach new researchers, being such a significant experiment for scientific research on nuclear fusion.

Jacopo Lombardo (Padova, 2024-07-17)

I am the former head of Climate Modeling Analytics for Citibank, and managed a portfolio of 730 Billion USD for Climate Risk, and fully appreciate the critical nature of developing fusion technology as fast as possible, which the dismantling of JET will delay unnecessarily.

Cino Castelli (New York City, 2024-08-10)

#1091

JET should still be funded

Julio Martinell (México city, 2024-09-09)

#1097

JET is crucial for fusion. We cannot stop it now!
