Too stressful and unfair

Kasey Maguire (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

The students need clarity as to what will happen regarding the exams. They have been learning under extreme stress and I don't think it would be fair for them to have the added worry of whether or not the will be sitting exams. They are or they're not. Give an answer and stick to it.

Karen Oliver (Callan, 2021-01-10)

The junior cert cycle is a joke and needs to be changed

Nicola Hanly (Roscommon, 2021-01-10)

#825

I’m signing this petition because I think the numbers are just to high to hold a jc and there higher than the cases were during the last jc cycle so it’s better to be safe

Zoey Croke (Waterford, 2021-01-10)

#828

i don’t want the jc

dylan colfer (waterford, 2021-01-10)

My Daughter Is a junior cert pupil

Caroline Mitchell (Bornacoola, 2021-01-10)

#832

This is just not fair on the kids their just not getting some subject on line like maths

Jean Quinn Hoary (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

#835

This process is outdated and we need to move with the times , we also need to recognise the stress, uncertainty and inconsistency these students have had to face in the past year it is unfair to expect them to take exams

Cher Gleeson (Cashel, 2021-01-10)

#839

Junior cert shouldn't go ahead

Andrea Kearney (Carnew /wicklow, 2021-01-10)

#844

Because I believe for the same reasons above that the leaving cert should also be cancelled with predictive grades in there place

Stephen MC Hugh (Claremorris, 2021-01-10)

#845

We all need to stand behind the junior and leaving cert children of 2021 it's so traumatic for them we need to make sure their mental health can cope

Linda Redmond (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

#850

As a parent of a junior cycle student I agree 100% the effects of the pandemic & homeschooling & social isolation with regards to the potential exams this year. I would urge the department to consider both junior & leaving cert students

Niamh Vaughan (Bray, co wicklow, 2021-01-10)

#851

I’m signing for my brother and my cousin I definitely is not fair in anyone to be expected to sit there junior exams at these hard times

Shannon O malley (Dhankill, 2021-01-10)

#855

My 15yr old is under severe pressure and stress over this and I don't think it is fair.

Geraldine Quigley (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

#863

Covid-19 is a serious matter, of course education is too but our health is more important

Isabelle Lyons (Edenderry, 2021-01-10)

#864

It's so unfair for the junior to go ahead this year when they missed a big chunk of last year and this they will miss at least 1 month with even more time possible.

Wayne Riley (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

#867

We haven't had time to prepare and it will stress people out and negatively impact the mental health of students.

Finola Glynn (Derrinturn, 2021-01-10)

My son is doing the Junior Cert this year. In 2019 he missed out on 3 months if schooling. In September 2020 he returned to school and the curriculum.was being rushed through. He had barely came to grasp with one chapter/ section and the teachers were starting the next thing on the agenda. Also , many teachers were out over 2020 either with Covid or being a close contact. More often than not there was no substitute teacher and if there was one it was not one that taught that subject so they were just asked to complete work . No teaching or interaction , just get on with it yourself. This has caused unnecessary stress and worry. There is no possible way that J.C or L.C could feel comfortable or cofident going into their exam after missing so much school. On line learning while very necessary now is no substitute for learning in the school environment.

it’s not fair to the jc’s or lc’s

cancel the junior cert (2021, 2021-01-10)

#891

I’m not in favour of this (and I know this still counts as signing). You’re not in school to do exams. You’re in school to learn. Your JC exam is good practice for doing more important exams but it’s not something you should be worried about, and if you’ve missed some of your course, so what? It’s not about what you haven’t learned. It’s about what you have learned.
Also, the vast majority of you haven’t missed anything close to 20% of your “junior cycle learning experience” and given that they’re reducing your pointless CBAs (which take nearly a month), you’ve missed even less.

John M (Dublin, 2021-01-10)

I think young people should have the right to know whether their exams will take place and when. I also think young people should be included in the discussions for decisions that are about them.

Zala Mlac (DIVACA, 2021-01-10)

#898

I think students should be judge on what they do over the 3 years not on a test it should be test as you go

Gary Byrnes (Limerick, 2021-01-11)

#899

Because mental health matters, unnecessary stress, we need clarity, so unfair for these kids

Roisin Poutch (Cavan, 2021-01-11)

#900

Students are under enough stress and
pressure

Sean Poutch (Cootehill, 2021-01-11)

#905

The pupils are stressed because of the amount of time they have missed and knowing that they will not have the course completed, please do not over look this

PATRICIA MANNING (LIMERICK, 2021-01-11)

#906

under too much pressure for the jc, missed 4 months worth of coursework , not safe with the current situation

laura signorelli (waterford, 2021-01-11)

#908

We have most most if are school year and have a lack of engagement

Tom Fitzgerald (Waterford, 2021-01-11)

#909

I’m signing this because I believe that the exams or at least the pre exams shouldn’t go forward. The amount of stress on us to try and catch up from the 4months of school we missed is unhealthy especially for teenagers. It’s unfair that we are being forced to do exams in this state as it is not only risking our physical health by being in a school with 1000+ students no matter how much social distancing is enforced it’s also affecting our mental health when in times like this is very important. I don’t think ye are taking in the consideration that some students live with people who could be be at a high risk to the disease which is not only making students a lot more nervous but it’s also a bit insensitive, and by saying ‘we’re all in this together’ won’t help. By doing these pre exams especially is throwing students in a school when Ireland’s cases are at its highest which is signifying that school and education is more important than our health which is something that shouldn’t be true. I know you might believe that I am writing this to just get out of school and work but as a student who has tried to make there best out of the situation by trying to catch up more, I was only met with getting extremely frustrated and tired . I believe that people are making up excuses for the pre exams to go ahead by saying that they are more important, when in reality wouldn’t that week of exams just take out of our time for catching up for the real exams?
I think my opinions have been made clear and I’m just asking for a reconsideration on your choices.
Thank you -A very stressed third year student

Georgia Brennan (Waterford, 2021-01-11)

My daughter is in her junior cert year this year and I'd rather it was cancelled. I think they've missed too much as it is. No matter what anyone says remote schooling doesn't campare to the classroom.

Tara Dowling (Dublin, 2021-01-12)

#913

It is unfair and unreasonable yo expect 3rd students to carry out this exam during this exceptionally stressful time.

Lynn Coffey Duff (Dublin15, 2021-01-12)

#915

My son is yo do jc this June and I dont think he's prepared enough for it because of disruptions, loss of classes and anxiety

Elisa McKenzie (Ballinagh, 2021-01-12)

#917

These students are dealing with an extraordinary situation and we need to be realistic online teaching isn't sufficient for exam preparation , decisions need to be made to avoid mental stress

Catherine Mccarthy (Tervoe, Clarina, 2021-01-12)

#919

My daughter is finding Google classroom very challenging and is due to do her junior cert this year

Elaine Molloy (Bellewstown, 2021-01-12)

#921

My son is due to sit his Junior Cert this summer and is getting anxious about not having enough covered in school, not being able to do practical work at home and then mock exam in Feb If they are back in school. Relieve the pressure on students And teachers and leave the exam halls for a socially distanced Leaving Cert.

Maria Patterson (Termonfeckin, 2021-01-12)

#922

I am a teacher and mother of a JC student. My daughter is not being taught just sent work on teams and some videos. The stress on these students is horrendous, they have been completely forgotten about

Catherine O Reilly (Dundalk, 2021-01-13)

#924

I’m signing this petition because I am a junior cycle student who feels it's unfair for the exam to go ahead, as students are underprepared and under stress due to the pandemic. I feel that we need a better chance and I fully believe many of us will put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do well. It took me a while to think about signing this because I did want to sit our exams but as we are in another lockdown my belief in the exams going ahead have changed.

Olivia O'Shea (Dublin, 2021-01-13)

#925

I agree totally that assigned work is not teaching. It's just admin. The concept of teaching is to show, explain and answer. Other than that it's just self reading of which most people can't learn or at least are in the minority. The system needs to be changed. It's not fair on out future adults. The ones that will guide our country going forward.

Shirley O Mahony (Clonmel, 2021-01-13)

#930

I have a daughter in 3rd year, and she is quite anxious regarding the whole exam issue and past and ongoing disruption due to covid..

SHARON BELMOUR (CO. CLARE, 2021-01-14)

#931

I’m signing this petition as I don’t think it is fair the 3rd years have been out of school for likely a year now they have missed so much work and if would not be fair for them to sit in a room to do a test for 2 hours and they won’t know anything they have missed important topics that they need to know but the department of education isn’t making it any better it’s so unfair

Shauna Curran (Dublin, 2021-01-14)

#932

i’m a third year student

lucy curran (dublin, 2021-01-14)

#934

I have a daughter sitting her Junior cert and I feel it’s too much pressure to sit a state exam, with no mocks, and not even previous exam papers to follow. Now they are trying to cope with online learning which might have worked it the quality of internet was excellent all over the country but this is not the case outside of towns and cities

Kay Grace (Tipperary, 2021-01-14)

#937

My daughter is so stressed over being in and out of school

Lisa mc dermott (Castlepollard, 2021-01-15)

#943

We believe in our granddaughter Abigail and Erica and we believe in their ability. We believe that her mental health is affected by the dithering of our ministers and tds.
It is not possible for a class that has missed so much close work with their teachers to successfully sit and complete a standard junior cert and Ms Foley is not taking this to account.
She constantly says she is determined that they go ahead. But these pupils are Determined that they should not go ahead and I think that their views should be heard

Gerry and Lilly Brien (Limerick, 2021-01-26)

#944

School is terribly handled right now

Emma Parkes (Meath, 2021-02-03)

#945

I feel it’s unfair to have junior cycle students sit and exam that they’ve missed a lot of school time and online learning is so different and difficult, last years third years missed 4-5 months and yet got off everything and we’ve missed extra time and disruptive learning yet still have to sit the exam

Elle Brady (Balbriggan, 2021-02-03)

#946

because it’s not fair that we have to sit and worry about what’s going to happen with our grades

Avril Bunker (Balbriggan, 2021-02-03)

#949

I feel that this would benifit a lot of jc students coping with mental health issues

Conor Kelly (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#954

We have simply missed too much valuable school time to sit exams

Harry Hughes (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#963

Its unacceptable to hold studants to a different standard in Junior and leaving cert standard. I believe that Juniir cycle is just as importand at leaving cycle and the marking should be the same basdd on such.

Mike Brady (Balbriggan, 2021-02-03)

#965

I’m sining this because sits not fair for junior cert students

Caoimhe Bagnall (Kildare, 2021-02-03)

#966

I am a junior very student this year and we are not getting clear enough answers as to whether or not our exams will even go ahead. This is frustrating as it’s making people lose motivation to do online school knowing there’s a possibility it could all be for nothing

Abby Quinn (Balbriggan, 2021-02-03)

#968

Unfair for all the third year students as we missed half of second year and most of third year due to COVID.

Gilliane Protacio (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#976

It's not fair we have to sit a normal junior cycle exams when we haven't been taught correctly because of circumstances

Lara Frazer (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#985

The stress on such young minds is astronomical and has a massive strain on our mental health

Holly Fox (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#987

I’m signing because I agree with the statements presented on this petition

Ciaran Sheehy (Dublin, 2021-02-03)

#991

There is too many cases and we should focus on safety

Matthew Kerr (Ramelton, 2021-02-03)

#996

we need more clarity on whether the junior cert is going ahead or not or how it will go ahead. we haven’t been told anything!
