Junior Cert students missed 3 months of teaching last year. They will now miss another 3 weeks at the very least. Teachers are struggling to get tge curriculum finished and students are being overwhelmed with work and pressure. This needsto stop - if you care anything for tge mental wellbeing of young people.Anna Creegan (Limerick, 2021-01-09)

I'm signing this because the uncertainty surrounding the Junior Cert causes stress in our young lives, stress that could be eliminated through the cancellation. Aswell as that, I find myself watching the news and all I am hearing about is the Leaving Cert. Junior Cert students are left in the dark and uncertainty as teachers tell us that calculated grades could be used and others saying to not worry and everything will go ahead with no change. The government should follow the lead of the UK, who have cancelled their GCSCs, and cancel the Junior Cert at least. The Junior Cert shouldn't be the be all and end all of our lives currently.Iseult O' Reilly (Waterford, 2021-01-09)

It is not fair that we have to do the JC without actually being in for most of 2nd year and now 3rd year. In my school we have only done 1 CBA aswellMatthew Agibuno (Dublin, 2021-01-09)

My daughter is in 3rd year and has missed so much due to this pandemic. CBAs that she completed before the lockdown last March are not being included and there is too much work that has been missed out for the children concerned to be able to give these exams their best effort.Emma Leadbetter (Dublin, 2021-01-09)

I’m signing because it’s unfair on these students to have to sit a full junior cert set of exams despite the school they have missed and will miss. And that the same should apply for the current 2nd years. They should all get predicted grades.Johanna Farrell (Mullingar, 2021-01-09)

Hello, my name is Chloe. I strongly agree to cancelling the junior cycle of 2021.My reasons are as follows….
We will have missed 4 months of the course by this time next month.
It is totally unfair to hold the examinations due to the pandemic and the stress it has caused. Although we have turned to remote learning for these months, it will never be as beneficial as being in a classroom face to face with a teacher and your classmates.
There has been no clarity yet which makes us wanting answers and not having answers to our questions is causing major stress and worry.
Some students like myself have vulnerable family members at home who are worried sick of what might happen if their family member gets covid-19. In schools, not everyone is social distancing or wearing masks which makes the situation more stressful.
If we sit the Junior cycle, we will be the first year to sit the new course, this is extremely stressful as on top of the pandemic as there is a new course that even the teachers are blur with. There has just been a few sample papers out with a lot of changes which is and has made teaching and learning extremely and difficult and stressful experience especially through remote learning with little classroom time.
We have missed out on presenting and doing so many CBA'S in 2nd year which means they have been pushed to this year. I still haven't presented over half of my CBA's. Without the stress of the pandemic, having to complete lots of these CBA's still so close to the pre's and heading into the junior is absolutely so unfair and causing major stress. We just want answers.
The Junior cycle is a good pathway into our leaving cert course but are you going to risks people's life's for this "pathway".Some people might not even see their pathway if they contract covid-19. Although education is important, we have done lots of classroom exams which means we have learned the majority of the course. More people would be able to focus on remote learning if we had answers to our questions.
"Will the pre's go ahead ?"
"Will the Junior cycle go ahead? "
"If the teachers barely know what's on the course, what are we supposed to study?"
"How is it fair to hold the junior cycle?"
These are just some of the questions although there is thousands of more.
If you are still thinking of holding the junior cert of 2021 and pre's with this pandemic happening, remember the pathway, the one that people may have to sacrifice if they sit the Junior cert.
What good is a junior cert to someone if they don't make it out alive.
Who would risk the life's of vulnerable people for a Exam..... Certainly not me !!!
If we want this pandemic to be over, we all need to work together and stay in and stay safe. Continue by all means with remote learning but don't make students have to sit a junior cycle exam when it is totally new to teachers and themselfs.
I am a 3rd year student if you haven't of gathered already by reading this. I am not saying all this because I couldn't be bothered studying or doing a junior cycle as I have gotten this far in the course in a strong way, I of course want to show my effort and work which I have done throughout classroom tests. My course has thought me that each one of those deaths may seem like a number until it is someone you know. Students may have experienced the death of a love one through covid- 19 and all that is in their head in the Junior cert. Imagine the stress they are having right now.
I hope after reading this you will therefore cancel the junior cycle of 2021 as it is causing so much unwanted and unneeded stress.
For my final words to you...
"I don't know one single person who *has not* been affected positively or negatively by this pandemic"
--Remember that pathway 🍀---
The pathway should guide you in making a decision…
Thanks,
Chloe

As I have my junior certs in only a couple months I feel like i dont have enough learned to do the junior cert and giving us a full juinoir cert with not enough of the learning curriculum learned it would be unfair on me and other studentsRyan Rooney (Kerry, 2021-01-09)
