Strandfontein residents against moving 2000 people into the area

This will create havoc ...it will create protesting and other serious problems to our residence.
Wrong move , wrong venue , sorry field is here for our sport it's not a camp to live on .

Firoza Mohamed (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#605

I do agree with not consulting the residents of strandfontein
There are many other open areas that these homeless people can be moved to

Malikah Evans (Strandfontein cape town, 2020-04-02)

#606

The upcoming weather in Strandfontein will be extremely cold and will not be a suitable environment to contain nor prevent any spread covid 19.
It's going to cause an increase in unwanted criminal activities
There's only 1 clinic in the area. 1 very small police station that is under staffed.

Noerraan Moses (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#607

I am a concerned strandfontein citizen.

Crystal Arendse (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Unhappy about settlement allocation by City of Cape Town

Denise Hendricks (Bayview, 2020-04-02)

#617

It's my hometown and my parents still live there.

Nerisha Jacobs (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#622

The infrastructure of the neighborhood is already strained as far as clinic services, policing, safety and security, and the strandfontein location is not central to rest of cape town. The waste management of strandfontein is already delayed and insufficient. We have had water contamination twice due to poor management.
We have just managed to get the kids of the streets and introduced social structures to maintained this.

We would not be able] to cope with more social demands.

Yours

This is an awful idea. They doubt heaven and then we have a bigger squatter problem in the end.

Shaheeda Davids (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#625

The virus will spread and crime will increase. The sports field will be ruined. We won't get them out once they are in. We only have one police patrol van for the entire Strandfontein. The neighborhood watch is under lockdown.

Faried De Bruyns (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#626

I feel like adding less fortunate people into the area will increase crime in the area. Which will make the community feel unsafe.

Chanell Mc Gear (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#627

I do not agree with the city to house people at the Strandfontein sport complex.

Lance Scheepers (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#632

I reside in the area, and I am concerned for the escalated crime in the area. This will also create an opportunity for land grabbing

Salaama Girling (cape town, 2020-04-02)

#636

Because the Coct did not communicate direcrtly with the people of Strandfontein, Wave Crest, Pelican Heights, Sea Crest, Bayview, Strandfontein Village old and new

Ezra October (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#642

It will increase the incidence of crime and serious threat to safety of people waiting for the bus.

Junayd Nordien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#644

Im signing because i feel it will lead to devastating effects on our area. Please consider the effects of this proposed action.

Fatima Nordien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#646

There are far better equipped sites for this . Strandfontein is unfairly being singled out.

Laylah De Bruyns (Capetown, 2020-04-02)

#648

Iam signing because why are they just moving people in to ereas where they can give people houseing where there is empity spaces

Candice Nelson (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#649

As Strandfontein resident I'm against the relocation of more than 2000 Homeless people to our area without the approval of the broader Strandfontein Community.

Anthony Matthews (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#650

I feel unsettled about the homeless moving here alot of these homeless people are homeless for a reason, drug related criminals who's family dont want them at home so we inviting them into I area. How strict will the police and law enforcement ement be keeping them off our streets, if today with lockdown we still have them out and about in our road.

Natasha Wilson (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#652

This is ridiculous.!
How can you continue destroying the people's land by just placing people on empty fields?
Build decent accommodation where they can live decently in a humane way instead of just utilizing an empty field that's being used by the people of strandfontein?
Where's all our tax money going?, use it for the benefit of the people!

Veronica Burger (Blackheath, 2020-04-02)

#655

ALREADY YOU HAVE ALLOWED SHANTIES TO MUSHROOM ON OUR AREA! WHERE DRUGS ARE EASILY BOUGHT!!!

Should you place these 200 or 400 people on Strandfontein - When time comes for them to leave, they will just escape over the back fence into the mushroomed Shanty areas!! And put up more HOKKIES!!!! WELCOME TO HOKKIE/SHANTY CITY AND MORE DRUGS AND CRIME!!

SO UNFAIR!!! WE PAY SO MUCH FOR OUR HOUSES &RATES!! AND HAVE TO LIBE IN FEAR!!
MAKES US WONDER? WE SHOULD LEAVE THIS POLITICAL PARTY AND JOIN ANOTHER WHO WILL SEE TO OUR NEEDS AND INTEREST

Patricia Miller (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#659

I plan on buying a house there in future as the crime rate is much better from what I hear from family and friends that live there.
I can only imagine the strolling, loitering and people coming to houses are going to be like.

Laila Nolan (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#664

I'm signing because there is a campsite in Muizenberg called zandvlei with ablution facilities and it is enclosed where these people can be housed

Catherine Alexander (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#665

We as residents utilize our sports ground on a daily basis! To get rid of these homeless people will be a mission! And I doubt the city of Cape town will help us to evict these homeless people who ARE NOT RESIDENTS OF STRANDFONTEIN! They are also a danger to our community and I can guarantee that crime will increase in our community! If they cannot be relocated then they WILL ERECT SHACKS ON LAND IN OUR AREA

Tiffany Weaver (Strandfontein Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#666

Strandfontein seems to have become the dumping ground for the Western Cape government. We receive below satisfactory services and I refuse for our community to be overlooked any longer.

Clayton Henry (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#671

I'm concerned what if the homeless decide they don't want to move from the field then strandfontein is in trouble. Government won't do nothing then us as villagers are stuck with another crisis not cool.

Nico Pienaar (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#675

The proper Operational Clean Up is not going to take place. The 2000 people will eventually end up living for good in the area and then it becomes the communities problem after lock down. This will cause more crime as well.

Jade January (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#677

Residents were not made aware of this arrangement. I'm sure the problem is not with having the people in the area, but more about what will happen after the lockdown. How certain are you that these people will not stay in the area?

Chelsey-Ann Mileham (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#679

Do not want the crime to increase for the safety of my family especially if it is Rdp housing.

Adeeb Poole (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

The allocation of 2000 on Strandfontein Sports Field has not been brought to the attention to the residents of Strandfontein. Further more, our concerns to have a smaller manageable amount of the homeless of Cape Town was not heard. There is no guarantee of safety, adequate hygiene and sufficient supply of food to support 2000-4000 people. It's not working in the municipality of Tshwane because there was no planning for such a major undertaking. It's questionable that the homeless would be moved to the outskirts of the city and in cold environmental conditions. This is not a humanitarian act, but more like a body dump of large scores of people into what will be very uncomfortable conditions.
There are other issues of disease spread when this is supposed to be a lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
We don't appreciate the overestimation of the abilities of the CoCT to manage so many people. The number will be greater if sufficient law enforcement is included, added to that, the NGOs and other organisations to supposedly serve this large group.
Other concerns are children being exposed to potential sexual predators that may not be identified. Then the addicts who may start to experience withdrawal if no treatment or counseling is offered for them during the lockdown duration. We are told this will only be for the remaining days of the 21 day period but there is already talks that lockdown may be extended as we are only in the early days of the coronavirus affecting our country.

What is troublesome about this unilateral decision made by our council members is that they know there were more manageable options and areas with better conditions inland during this cold weather season, but every other ward is not prepared to share the burden of responsibility of caring for the homeless in our city. Shame on them and shame on MayCo for lacking the courage to include the suburbs who could have participated in the nurturing of the homeless in Cape Town.

We will remember the leaders involved and remember them when it comes to our next election.

C Visser (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Our area is rife with youth and this sports ground has been one constant means of providing a place for the youth to stay out of trouble and keep busy. The community have worked really hard to get these fields into a usable state and even this state is not great. I am so sympathetic to the plight of the homeless but this field is not the solution. There is no form of ablution facilities and the road that passes the sports field if one of the busiest roads which most people utilize to go to work. We have seen in so many situations that when these types of decisions are made people are rarely moved again and the repocussions of this is people protesting for service delivery which will impact the entire Strandfontein and parts of Mitchell's Plain. I do believe that a better structure and area be sort for them one that has ablution facilities and one that has some form of control over safety. Thank you for the consideration.

Samantha Pinn (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Against moving 2000 homeless people into the area.

Zurina Parker (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#686

Im signing this as i am not in agreement with moving people onto our sportsfield. I am a ratepayer and have a right not allowing it. What is going to happen to our sports after the lockdown

Glenda Dickenson (Western Cape, 2020-04-02)

#689

As a resident we were not informed before hand, and Coct just assumed we would be one with it, I'm sure I f it was a upper class community it would of been a different approach!

Wendy Matthews (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#692

I don't want you to use our sport fields ....

Wendy Brockman (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#694

We do not need additional people in the area... there is green point stadium, army base field in Wynberg and there are alot of open fields that they can move the people but to Strandfontein. Its enough we have druggies breaking to houses and robbing in the area.

Shireen 'Reen' (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

I'm not happy with the city's plans to move people into our area.why not the white areas?

Who will monitor these people? Will they be allowed of thr grounds? Have they been tested for covid - 19? Why are not partially moved to white areas as well?? We are also rate and tax payers.

Rayghana Nordien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#723

I am unhappy that our area is being used. No permission was asked and I pay my rates y don't I have a say. Move them to the constantias and seapoints of cape Town. And after the lock down what then. They will start protesting on spine road burning tires for free housing!!!!! Lock down again where people won't be able to go to work. This is wrong.

Nazlee Essa (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#724

I do not think that strandfontein sports complex is in a condition to be housing people as there are snakes and gerbils and no water supply, and i do not think that the the government will be able to remove all those homeless people after the lockdown. And bringing all these people into the community is compromising the safety of its residents and there families

Ameerah Cassiem (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#726

Because im a resident and we dnt want strangers in the area causing problems

Against 2000 people moved into Strandfontein

Michelle Arendse (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#743

I do not want those homeless people to come to a much worse condition. The fields are poor. It is infested with snakes, moles and rats. The temperature on that field, at night, is so cold. It's unbearable at times, especially during summer, nevermind winter.
Then there's the case of the strandfontein resident's safety and security.

Shane Joemath (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#746

There is already homeless people walking around in Strandfontein, why don't they get shelter first. We have senior and special need(disable) people here, think of their health and their safety, before you bring in more people in our community. This is the 7th day of lockdown i have not seen 1 police van or law enforcement vehicles patrolling our roads, so how safe will our community be??????

Crystal Minnaar (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#747

I'm a Strandfontein resident and I feel very strongly against this movement, especially when no notification was given to the residents about this decision.

Souad Abrahams (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#748

I am against this. We are high rate payers and this will cause chaos in our community. Let alone breaking loitering at our shops etc.

Gerhardus Erasmus (Cape-town, 2020-04-02)

#762

I don't agree with allowing the settlement of the homeless people at Strandfontein Sports field

Mujahid Salie (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#765

I am resident of Strandfontein and you cannot place 2000 people in an already over burdened community. Not only that the Strandfontein sports ground is not safe and has no barrier against the string winds and icy cold sea air. And what happens when these people refuse to move once lock down is over then we lose another community area for the kids and we already don't have in Strandfontein

Ayesha Schroeder (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#766

Strandfontein does not have the infrastructure to support more people in thia area. And by bringing in low cost housing its going to drop the value of existing housing and create a breeding ground for criminal activity.

Anthea Martin (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

#769

#771

What if... they refuse to move at a later stage, damage water supplies, or better yet, they decide to break in our houses, steal goods from our front yards etc... the amount of dirt/litter on the field

Emmanuel George (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

#773

I am against the homeless being moved to Strandfontein Village. What happens ehen the lockdown is over, they going to stay in and around the Mitchell's Plain area. Crime is already a factor in our community. The community is already at a disadvantage where the sports field is in a pathetic condition......we dont have fields to train on. I can only imagin the condition the fields will be in after this.

Letitia Brown (Strandfontein Village, 2020-04-02)

#774

I am signing this petition because I fear for our safety as strandfontein residents. We are a small community and there is not space for 2000 more
Unpredictable people.

nicole joseph (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#778

I've been a resident of Strandfontein all my life (36 years now) and it was always a quiet and safe area. Since the evolution of 7de laan there has been vast increases in house burglaries, drugs, gangsterism and all these crazy things that was never associated with our area. Now they want to move 2000 people from who knows where into the area without consulting us as a community. This is ridiculous!!!!! I am very much against this for all purposes.

Faaiqah Toffar (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#783

The virus can be spread by those people. They will come to our houses for food zand spread the virus

Justine Figlsnd (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

I object to this people being moved to the sports field or any facility in Strandfontein, this will increase the crime in our area

Glynnis Gameeldien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

#797

I'm signing this petition not because I'm being selfish or inconsiderate, but because I feel that the homeless people will not respect our facility which everyone has worked so hard to maintain for the greater good of our children.

I'm a resident of Strandfontein

Sandra Hartogh (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I don't agree with homeless people being stored on Strandfontein field as it was not discussed or agreed by Strandfontein residence. I am sure we have a say as we pay rent, bond and rates here. I am sure there were other bigger and closer venues use could've used.
