A Central High School senior denied to walk at graduation.

Walking is the last time many will be around their academic peers and in the company of their teachers, who taught, guided, and mentored them, to achieve the greatness that graduation represents. It's a chance to revel in the shared identity of your time together and the shared excitement for what comes next. Please give this student a “chance” to walk across that stage. Many make mistakes, but there’s always room for a second chance & I’m sure that it will be a learning lesson for the child. Please don’t ruin this for him. He deserves it. Right along with every other senior that’s graduating.

John Osborne (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

This is just devastating for a child to not be able to walk at his graduation over a fight were he defended himself. Not to mention students work hard to complete high school to be able to walk the stage with their peers. Thier parents spend a lot of money on school events, senior pictures and all the other graduation stuff. I don't think it's fair to not allow him to walk the stage because he has earn it.

Louwanda Hickmon (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

Everyone has made mistakes that is what makes us human. Sometimes we are put in situations that we have no control over and This child deserves to walk on his graduation.

Lerutheanna Tillman (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#417

I know this student personally, good kid.

LaKendra Miller (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#420

I am an alumni of Central High and I do not agree with the decision of not allowing this young adult to graduate. A person should not be reprimanded for defending themselves.

Kira Little (Philadelphia, 2024-05-17)

#424

This young man was defending himself . There was witnesses saying he was defending himself. It shouldn’t have to give up what he worked so hard for because of another young man’s ignorance.

Kim Miles (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#426

He needs to walk a great kid

It’s the right thing to do. Taking something from a young man that you can never give him back is not a punishment he deserves. It’s wrong in so many ways. I don’t even know how this was ever a thought in an adults mind. A day of community service cleaning the school grounds or something similar would be punishment not taking something he worked hard for because he took up for himself. This is why kids never report bully’s because both students end up punished. Our school systems need to do better.

Grace Simpson (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#428

What did they want him to do? Let the boy beat the hound dog out of him? No. He defended himself. He’s worked hard for all his accomplishments. Are y’all trying to set the example that one moment defines his future? No.

Ana Sanchez (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#429

This is an injustice, if the student was defending himself and has paid his dues academically and has been a Student with no record it would be an injustice to not allow him to walk.

Yesica Holt (Milwaukee, 2024-05-17)

#434

Based on his history he should be allowed to walk and not punished for being attacked and responding to the attack(defending himself) by someone with a history of discipline problems.

Dwan McQueen (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

This is important! You only get to do this once.

I am signing this petition because I went to Central high school as well. I am a graduate of the class of 2022. My name is Kody Dawkins everyone calls me “Blue”. Denorris it’s not a bad kid he stays out of trouble and keeps to himself. There should not be a reason why he is being denied to walk across the stage for his graduation after All his hard work that he has put in throughout school, on the football field, and on the track In my opinion, this really should not be a debate as central high school has The background Of the ninth grader who started it all, and most likely the footage of what happened so there really should not be a issue with him walking across the stage for graduation when there is video proof of what happened when it happened and statements from students of what happened and even the teachers are coming out to vouch for Denorris, but yet the principal still says no, and now a petition has been made for the student to walk across the stage at his graduation. In all my years of going to Central high school, I never knew that defending yourself when another person puts their hands on you that could cause you Not to walk across the stage at your graduation, even though you did it as self-defense, and now all the students in that school will realize if they try to defend themselves in a fight or an altercation they will be risking their big day that they are going and staying in school for, and they will be risking not walk across the stage at graduation. You have two backgrounds, one of a ninth grader who has a bad history, and on the other hand, you have a senior, who has never caused trouble a day that he has been at that school, and yet you were holding the seniors graduation hostage, because he decided to defend himself? And not only that the senior apologized over and over again, saying he never wanted to fight he never wanted that to happen. This should not be a thing nor a discussion. As a graduate from Central high school in 2022 I am somewhat ashamed to say I came from this high school now that I see what kind of people were left in charge of it. Let that senior walk across the stage, he earned it after all, don’t take it away from him because he was put in a situation where he had to defend himself.

Kody Dawkins (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#444

I myself was a student at Central High and was the target of a mass cyberbullying attack that caused the school to be locked down due to shooting threats. I was innocent. And the boys that initiated the attack online both got to walk the stage. If they can do it so can Denorris Wilson. Fair is fair.

Mason Elks (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#446

he deserves to walk

Katerria Truesdale (pageland, 2024-05-17)

#450

This just isnt fair. Especially him not at fault.

Micheala Horne (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#451

It was not his fault if he’s a good student, making good grades and in sports and never been in trouble up until the kid hit him he’s definitely not the problem here. Let him Walk and receive his diploma Pageland High School dont be a example of being a failure to this society!

Kierra Wilson-Taylor (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#452

I’m signing because I know Dennoris, I work with him and I know what truly happened, it was self defense and it wasn’t his fault. Dennoris apologized and he wouldn’t do something like that, let alone the day before his last day of school. Dennoris deserves to walk that stage with the rest of our senior class.

Sherlyn Espinosa (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#453

This is a good young man who does brother anyone and has worked so hard to finish school. He was only defending himself which is our human right and plus it was only 1/2 of day left for school he had attacked the whole year.

Josephine Moore (Mc Bee, 2024-05-17)

#458

I feel as if this is not fair for him especially because other students whom were involved arent getting this same treatment, 1 student bein a senior & the same age as denoris .. its not fair at all .. he deserves to walk .

Makiyia Blakeney (pageland, 2024-05-17)

#461

I am signing because it is total nonsense for a student with no previous discipline record to be denied the opportunity to march at his much anticipated graduation day because he defended himself by having to fight a known trouble maker.
There is no justification for this principal's decision. Therefore this young man should be allowed to march.

Patrise Webber (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#464

In my understanding from previous children I have been in contact with why was a child that was in DJJ in school and not in alternative school? Denoris is a great kid and has always been this should not be taken from him.. If this was to happen earlier in the year he would been able to return back to school and walk with his graduating class but because this happened at the end of the year it will cause him not to walk. Why take something from him that he has worked for and punish his parents from seeing him do one thing we look forward to all year.. Ask your self what if this happened to your child would you want him to miss this huge mild stone in your life because of one incident especially if he didn’t have a bad track record.

Jessica Crawford (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#468

For a first offense, this young man deserves to walk with his class!

Shenique Funderburk (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#473

I'm signing because he should be able to walk, he didn't start the fight and he didn't want to fight. He was simply defending himself as he should have.

Daisia Johnson (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#477

That young man was defending himself. Would you prosecute an adult for defending themselves from an attacker? All that is being done is teaching our children that of they try to stand up for themselves and take care of themselves they will be punished for it.

Sabrina Campbell (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#479

Because this is some bullshit!!!

Franklin Wilson (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#480

Because the principal know it’s some BS

Dedrick McManus (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#483

It’s unfair for this young man to be punished for being provoked. Sounds as if he was set up

Richard Little (Columbia, 2024-05-17)

#485

He deserves to walk across that stage all the hard work and dedication he has given!! Let him walk!!!

Kimberly Louallen (Mount Croghan, 2024-05-17)

#486

This is ludicrous for him not to walk if it was self defense! Our schools are getting ridiculous!!!

Barbara Cato (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#488

He should be allowed to walk.

Alexis Swanger (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#492

He deserves to walk!!!

Debrea Eason (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#493

Let him walk! He’s been an exemplary student for many years. Chesterfield county, get your houses in order! Your parents are tired of your mess!!

Charity Brown (Patrick, 2024-05-17)

#494

Because I feel that it's unfair this young man worked hard to graduate

Shantovia Hamilton (Lancaster, 2024-05-17)

#495

I’m signing because this student should be able to walk across that stage along with everyone else. Especially when he was physically touched first and fire the principal!

Candice Jordan (Hartsville, 2024-05-17)

#497

There is no reason for Denorris not to be able to walk his graduation when he was clearly defending himself.

Chloe Chernutan (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#501

I am a retired teacher and I know there are students whose intent is to destroy others. Principal please don't deny this young man because of others evil intent. Educators are life force for others. With all respect!

Cynthia H. Cash (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#502

This gentleman is enrolling in the armed forces. This is a small accomplishment compared to the impact he will make on our country. Let this young man obtain his high school diploma. If it were your child you’d want your hard work in getting him to this point and his graduation to occur.

Hannah Dutton (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#504

I believe he’s a great kid and deserves to walk

Tucker Airington (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#509

I’m signing because this is just plain wrong.

Gloria Ray (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#517

He is a very funny guy, never got into any trouble, it might have been something planned from the 9th grader, but LET JR WALK!!!

Chalton McCray (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#519

This is some bull. Man put effort in to represent the school in sports and with this tell him he can’t walk. Principal needs to get the***** off his house, and quit being a dick.

William Walden (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#520

This petition speaks for itself. Why is someone that defended himself against an attack getting punished. Never even seen this young man waste his time on confrontation or nonsense..so his past 4yrs should definitely not be a waste. He’s a good young man, he should walk with class of 2024!

Tomika Belk (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#526

This is not fair

Sheneen Marton (Lancaster, 2024-05-17)

#528

Life is not fair but this is too far for a child who has worked hard to excel.

Krystal Rollings (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#535

Let this boy walk! Many more have walked for worse mess than defending themselves. He’s given this school blood, sweat, and tears!! LET HIM WALK!!!!

Maria Harris Toole (New Ellenton, 2024-05-17)

#537

I’m signing because this man needs to walk at graduation. Having 4 years of hard work and dedication taken away from you is not a good thing!! The principal needs to realize this. It was not his fault.

Kristen Galloway (Columbia, 2024-05-17)

#541

he didn’t do anything wrong

victoria thompson (pageland, 2024-05-17)

#542

I feel this punishment is way to serve and unfair. He has no disciplinary actions against him in all his 4 years all passing grades and was just defending himself, so i don't think this should be his 1 and only punishment. Furthermore this school and new heights middle school are the worst in the county. Defending your self is not ok they just expect kids to get beat on and take it. This young man has spent the last 4 years doing everything right and this problem child started the fight by hitting this young man and he is the one who is losing the most.

Brandi Mangum (PAGELAND, 2024-05-17)

#544

This child needs to experience him walking the stage. Seems to me he has been an outstanding student. I don’t see any issue because he was defending himself, as you should.

Donnice Seegars (Gray Court, 2024-05-17)

#548

This is not right. He has been a model student/athlete this whole time. Other kids look up to him and his accomplishments. Jr is a lover, not a fighter. This other child was the problem, Jr was only defending himself. There are soooo many kids who never get to graduate for all kinds of reasons, but this is just unfair. The principal needs to let JR walk that stage with his classmates as he worked very hard to get there.

Danielle Johnson (Andalusia, 2024-05-17)

#553

It's not fair that he shouldn't be aloud to walk because of self defense. He has done everything else right in school good grades, plays sports, he doesn't do wrong. Obviously no one's perfect but this wasn't his fault he didn't start it so he should be able to walk like everyone else he deserves it after four years of high school!!

Khloe Macer (Andalusia, 2024-05-17)

#558

It’s downright unfair to punish him for defending himself. They gave the student that returned from DJJ a second chance and look what he done in return. So why not give this young man a second chance. The principal is willing to sacrifice his future because of one incident is truly heartbreaking.💔 💔💔💔

Joyce Melton (Cheraw, 2024-05-18)

#561

He is a humble young man and this was his first incident at school. He deserves a chance.

Jessica Collins (Jefferson, 2024-05-18)

#565

I believe you have a right to defend yourself against known trouble makers. Would you just stand and let someone beat on you?

Lisa Fowler (Greatfalls, 2024-05-18)

#568

It’s not right he worked hard to get where he is and all because he defined his self that’s bull they would have done the same thang

Jennifer Austin (Pageland, 2024-05-18)

#569

He did nothing wrong only defending himself the 9th grader has a history and should be sent somewhere he can get help for his behavior

Sandra Hamilton (Pageland, 2024-05-18)

#577

I believe this young man should be able to march. The cameras don’t lie, he didn’t start it. This is out of character for him. So he should be given the same grace and mercy we receive daily from our Lord and Savior. It’s not how good we have been that we’re graced from day to day, but it’s the mercy of God. Whatever we sow we reap, sow mercy and reap mercy.

Kendra Watson (Cheraw, 2024-05-18)

#579

I disagree with the decision the Principal of the School obviously made on ultimately an Independent decision. Especially when Student in questions character is obviously positive for Teachers and other staff to want the sole decision of the Principal reversed.

Kanda Gilmore (Dozier, 2024-05-18)

#581

He has the right to graduate with his class !! Why can’t he defend himself when the other child is known for getting in trouble??

Regina Sansbury (Darlington, 2024-05-18)

#584

I am a mother! Sometimes older kids get bullied to. He deserve the right to walk, we all have to defend ourselves sometimes. I pray this young man gets his once in a lifetime opportunity that he deserves and worked hard for❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽

Roshell Burnette (Andalusia, 2024-05-18)

#586

This young man should be walking in his graduation

Laquan Pegues (Los Angeles, 2024-05-18)

#587

I believe it is wrong and idiotic to take away this man’s RIGHT to walk HIS graduation at HIS school that he has represented and been a student of for the past 4 years. He didn’t do anything but defend himself from a rude child trying to start stuff. LET HIM WALK!

Caleb Holland (Vine Grove, 2024-05-18)

#591

It is unfair and ridiculous to not let this young man participate in his graduation.

Jamie Moyer (Wellington, 2024-05-18)

#593

Is bs tha he's not allowed to walk for defending himself. I stand with this young man. LET HIM WALK!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin Doty (Oakboro, 2024-05-18)

#596

Come on the kid has never been in trouble. And yet the other one stays in trouble.. don't punish a good kid cause you can't control the bad ones

Amber Mcmanus (Pageland, 2024-05-18)

#597

I’ve met him before he is a great guy well rounded and is not the drama type.
