Many of us don't appreciate the ecosystems that are present and how they affect us on many levels. All existing plants and animals interrelate with us and when a species or subspecies disappears it leaves a hole in the fabric of life. Not only that, what have koalas done to us that we should make them suffer and deprive them of their habitat?!Marie McArdle (Monterey, 2021-10-18)
#414
I am signing this in hope that it assists the aims of the petition to help in its endeavours because I do not trust the Authority to act in the habitat's best interests.Brian Vincent (Diamond Beach, 2021-10-18)

I live at Phillip Island and we still have a few koalas living wild and free. They are such a unique animal they deserve all the help they can get to live in their natural habitatRuth Scott (Newhaven, 2021-10-18)

Council has not provided details of how or when it will fire clear a 14m wide strip on or near the remnant koala corridor or how it will maintain the biodiversity in this area.Ian Turner (Taree, 2021-10-18)
#429
the residents of this area are concerned about developments that lead to bush being cleared and consequent loss of habitat and biodiversity. it would be ideal if MCC protects this corridor in its entirety.Jennifer Allison (Wingham, 2021-10-18)

I am concerned about the Koala Corridor being destroyed. Our koalas and other significant wildlife have been decimated by the natural disasters that have impacted our region recently. Further loss of habitat will almost certainly lead to local extinctions.ROBERT Radford (RED HEAD, 2021-10-18)

No responsible Australian should wish to take action, or even carry out a development, which will endanger Koalas or other vital wildlife, no matter how much profit might be involved.Terry Stanton (Tinonee, 2021-10-18)

Corridors connecting forested areas have been shown to be very important for wildlife. The feral grass species needs to be kept under control by the forest canopy. I used to be the initiator and co-ordinator for the Landcare Group at Hallidays Point.Dr Pam Muggeridge

Wee have lost all too many koalas and their habitats during the 2019-20 firestorms. Corridors are essential to their safe movement for nutrition and mating. Don't let hungry developers have their way!Graham Barnes (Wingham, 2021-10-18)
#461
We don’t want to lose this incredible creature that is already a threatened species and all the other animals and plants that occupy this precious habitat.I cant believe we are still having to sign petitions like this. Those in power are paid to ensure conservation of these increasingly rare and essential places. Why does the community have to do the job that Council bureaucrats and politicians are paid to do??
Lee Crennan (Green Point, 2021-10-19)

Loss of Koala habitat without doubt is leading towards extinction for the Koala.Mid Coast Council has made committments to "preserve, enhance and value" our natural eco-systems", and has to be held accountable.
The remnant Koala Corridor located between Maslin Court and Scarborough Circuit, Redhead has to be retained in tact and protected.
Graeme Macey (Smiths Lake, 2021-10-19)

This corridor is rich in biodiversity and an important refuge for many wet scherophyll plant and animal species, including some threatened ones such as koalas. It is well loved and used recreationally by residents and visitors. Much of it has a healthy understory of low fire risk native plants including themeda, basket grass, native geranium, plectranthus, breynia and much more. Any disturbance to this healthy native vegetation would be detrimental. If Council want to reduce fire risk, they could consider assisting us with the control of siteria, which exists in a few previously disturbed areas of the corridor.Alan Pursch (Hallidays Point, 2021-10-19)
#465
I'm signing because I am concerned that koalas are on a path to extinction. Why Council would even consider a haphazard burn without first studying the biodiversity of the area concerned is beyond me.Kaye Matthews (Cobar, 2021-10-19)
#468
I disagree with you taking the homes of the Koalas. If this continues our beautiful Kialas will have no where to go and will die off.Lynn Gill (KEW, 2021-10-19)

1. Biodiversity cannot sustain the myriad assaults on it. I expect that Council should do everything it can to protect our precious biodiversity.2. The demonstrated long term community commitment to restoration should be supported and respected.

Koalas are listed as a vulnerable species. I do not want to see any more destruction of their habitat otherwise they will eventually be critically endangered. Sadly ,they may already be on the brink of that categorisation.Christine Stanton (Tinonee, 2021-10-19)
#493
We need to save our koalas, they gave been devastated by bushfires and development. Surely being an Australian icon they deserved to be saved, building a koala corridor is such a sensible idea and being an ex resident I hope that you will approve this. .Julia Lee (Newcastle, 2021-10-19)

We need to protect koalas.Tahlia Muller (Taree, 2021-10-20)
#501
This is extremely important remnant habitat that has been invested in by our local Landcare Group for decades. It is a historic agreement that would not be entertained today. Besides koalas there are likely to several other species that are dependent on prickly undergrowth for survival including small birds (see the Birds In Backyards commentary on the at risk status of small birds) and potentially phascogales, bandicoots squirrel gliders and others. A more creative and ecologically friendly approach needs to be found.Kym Kilpatrick (Diamond Beach, 2021-10-20)

Clearing of this E2 zoned land for APZ contradicts the Community Strategic Plan which acknowldges that 'Our natural environment is protected and enhanced, while we maintain our growing urban centres and manage our resources wisely.' This is an active koala habitat with many recent sitings. Surely 20 houses can adopt a higher fire rating through double glazing etc. rather than put an entire ecosystem at risk.Adam Turville (Red Head, 2021-10-21)
