He is a good principal who fights for the rights of he's learners and teaching staff

Shireen Paulus (Cape Town CBD, 2020-09-30)

The WCED top structures are fools. They feel really stupid after their silly decisions and are now on a witch hunt. This principal is a victim and they don't want people to stand up against them. Other principals sadly are in cahoots with goverment and are abusing this process to get rid of staff members opposing their strategies or lack thereof

Educators are now the victims of this pandemic. I pray that those doing this will fail

Sharon Oktober (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#423

Mr Neumann has acted in the interest of the school and the broader community, with the support of the school governing body, out of concern for the health and safety of students, teachers, parents and the community during the peak period of the Covid-19 pandemic. We should encourage his democratic approach to leadership in our schools.

Ashley Visagie (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

The Principal acted in the interest of school

#432

It is unfair to punish principals who have a different view about child safety during a pandemic to the of the WCED. The WCED needs to listen to principals on the ground for they know their communities, the conditions on the ground, their infrastructure and challenges. To force schools that have no social distancing infrastructure to open during the pandemic is wrong. Even the elite schools could not open for 5 days for all children and for full days. At most, children got 3 hours of lessons in these schools, yet schools in the townships were made to open for full days everyday for the children, because children have to eat. This made matters worse for schools because if children must eat at school, then all children have to go to school daily making it difficult to plan for social distancing and further putting children and staff in these schools at risk. Ut is unfair to build your models based on elite schools and surely principals have a duty to protect the children in their care and their families.

Xolisa Guzula (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#433

I support Mr Neumann's actions that were triggered by a genuine and valid concern for the health of his staff and learners.

#434

I'm signing because we need transformational leadership in our schools that have long been deserted by the WCED and government. Mr Neuuman, principal of Heathfield High School is such a transformational leader who has done nothing but ensure the safety, wellbeing and continued success of his learners, staff, and community.

Masnoenah Humby Kamalie (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#446

The victimization of teachers in working-class suburbs by the rich, wealthy and elite must stop. The powers in the WC that have brought these charges against Mr Neumann have no regard for the poor communities in our province. They sit in their ivory towers and dictate without considering the contextual factors of others. Mr Neumann had the best interests of his learners at heart and shouldn't have to be disciplined for being a dedicated public servant.

To my knowledge, Mr Neumann has acted on the greater interests of his entire school community on mind and with whom he undertook extensive consultation. His careful and bold leadership was undertaken in the most trying of times.

Gerard Samuel (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#461

Mr Newman and other principals took a stand in the interest of the school community. I honour him for standing up boldly to place best interest of the learners and educators.... Ultimately the community at large. Their safety etc was of primary concern to Mr Newman. I do believe he had no intention to undermine the authorities.... But took a principled stand in the covid19 pandemic. My best wishes accompany him. An injury to one is an injury to all

Mr Neumann is a principled Head of School who is supported by the community and many other Principals. He felt strongly that schools were being opened too soon which was later taken up by Government! He should not loose his position because he disagrees.

because this is wrong what they are doing. He was protecting our children and community.

Grant Alexander (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#498

He was not just protecting himself but his entire school and community. Few principals had the courage to stand up against the wrongs of wced and government. I salute you sir. Too many of us just look on or turn awayfrim what is right. We became a sick society.

Naomi Wentley (Cape town, 2020-09-30)

#500

I call on the WCED to drop these petty, unfair and untimely charges against Mr Neumann. He is an exceptional transformational educational leader whose ethical commitments to his learners are exemplary. Mr Neumann is exactly the kind of leader that schools require during these times. He carries the support of his SGB and community. The WCED's actions are antagonising the school's learners, parents and the community that his school serves. He should be celebrated and supported, not victimised and undermined. I call on the WCED to drop these charges forthwith.

Prof Aslam Fataar (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#512

Action by WCED is blatant victimization

Terrence Smith (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#515

I am anti action being taken on Principals who have heard their communities cry for help and care during a very difficult time in human history. The timing of the department attack will only serve to destabilise a school community that is just settling in to perceived "safe" environment to allow education to proceed.

Dianne Gordon (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#517

Fair

Jandre Oerson (Sutherland, 2020-09-30)

Mr Neumann and the other principals did everything they could to protect our children. A large percentage of our children came from disadvantaged homes, and top it all Covid has hit the most vulnerable very hard. As most our parents have lost their only livelihood during the pandemic

Graeme Africa (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#540

The Department of Education especially in the Western Cape have not and continue to not act in the best interest of learners, particularly the most marginalized learners in our community. Had they concentrated the slightest bit of their energies towards fighting the looting and corruption of COVID funding, there would have been sufficient support to aid parents to stay at home and attend to their kids, instead they have placed themselves in a position of intentionally / unintentionally aiding corruption by taking their eye off the ball and concentrating on restarting the economy unsafely to the detriment of the the next generation.

Tina Ebden (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

Stacey-lee Van Der Berg (Cape Town, 2020-09-30)

#576

I believe that Mr Neumann is being targeted by the WCED simply bcos he stood up for what was right, justified and necessary (amidst a deadly pandemic) to protect valuable lives of learners especially. Mr Neumann had the integrity to stand up for what most parents believed, and STILL believe, was necessary to save our childrens lives. Its clear this nothing more than a personal attackon him. I will support and commend ANY educator, staff or principal who acts steadfastly in the best interest of any child.. and that is exactly what Wesly Neumann did!

Shoneez Henderson (Kimberley, 2020-09-30)

#588

He was true to the learners by putting their safety before education. I salute him mr Neumann for standing up for my child and all other children. God has your back Sir. Thank you. You can always get n education as you never too old to learn but you will never get your child back.
