Strandfontein residents against moving 2000 people into the area

I'm a resident of Strandfontein and we as residents were not consulted with regards to the homeless being moved to our sports grounds. There are so many other sports complexes with so much more to offer, yet they literally get dumped here. Fast forward to when lockdown is over and they will not want to move the we are stuck with an increase in crime and the values of our homes decreased. The residents would all want to sell their homes eventually. Inconsiderate of the City of Cape Town to make such decisions without Strandfontein residents consent.Georgia Paulsen (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Me as a resident in strandfontein was not consulted. Crime sure will be on the rise, people will start moving around and start begging and moving around, water on that sport field was contaminated that affected us in strandfontein being without water for almost 2 weeks, policing in this area not enough but those who make the rules are not affected because they don't live hereRory Fester (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

I am against it. This area is supposed to be a safe neighborhoodWardah Jacobs (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I don't want those idiots to mess up my area. Drugs are already an issue, imagine bringing more of these kinds of people. Traffic will be worse. Go build houses for these guys in constanciaSaadiek Basadien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

We will not have 4000 extra people in our area, why dnt they use Seapoint and Constantia sports groundsEster Fisher (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)
#424
I disagree that this should be used . There is no homeless in our area . Those that are on streets have homes to go to .this is a sports facility meant for recreationJacques Graham (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

Am signing because I am appalled how we the residents are being treated. We do not have enough facilities to keep the youth off the street and know the only sports field is being taken away. Mention was made that it would be temporary, but history has taught us that temporary is a word not be be used idly. What is going to happen to the future of our youth, what is going to happen to our seniors who is in no position to re-root themselves....Patti Clark (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Our rate payers association was not consulted about this. There will be negative implications for people in our area after the lockdownDebbie Scholtz (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

This is not the best option for the homeless as well as the Strandfontein community.Denise Brown (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I am concerned about1. the condition of the fields in the aftermath. The kids have already lost out on so much playtime
2. The possibility that this will be a long-term, maybe permanent arrangement
3. The threat of protests [as has been seen at other locations] which will servery impact work travel
4. Crime
5. Lack of containment. Will there be permanent stations of observation around the entire perimeter?
Ainslie Cupido (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I dont want this move to happen. Its going to cause the homeless, squatting permanently in the area, creating problems fir us the working classKyle Davids (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
#438
The needs of these homeless people are not being considered. More immediately suitable facilities are available eg newlands stadium, cape town stadium etc.Secondly the aftermath and the Strandfontein Community at large and their concerns and needs are being blatantly disregarded.
Aldino Arendse (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

The city decided this without consulting the Strandfontein community, we were faced with a water contamination issue and did not even get feedback.Riyaad Hess (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
#443
Why can't these people be housed at Greenpoint Stadium is it because this is a coloured community? We also pay rates and taxes why must it be into our community and not any white community?Ruth Adams (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

I'm a resident of Strandfontein, I have not been consulted or contacted about moving refugees in my area and I oppose this proposed move.Shaheed Gabier (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

The residents of this area were not asked regarding this. What about green point stadium or green point park. Why don't they use that?Nathan Cheemee (Bayview, 2020-04-02)

I sign because the health of all of us that lives here is Strandfontein will be in danger. The old people is the most vulnerable of all. And there are bigger sports field in the rich peoples areas why not put the camp up there. Cape town stadium, athlone stadium, the sports fields in constantia, UCT, UWC, WHY HERE BY US. SORRY NOT HERE NOT NOW!!!Ingrid Pillay (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

I'm against having people being place that's inhumane..facilities are not adequate for anyone to stay at..Carla Clorte (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
#455
I cannot believe that this is the best place to house the people. It seems that this is dumping spot. Here isnt even enough amenities for the people that reside in the area, let alone an additional 2000 people
What will happen after lockdown is lifted?
Our police station is not equipped to deal with additional challenges....they can barely cope with the current challenges
Why wasnt cape town stadium used? Or another sports field in the green leaf suburbs?
I'm sure there is a community centre somewhere that will serve this cause?
Its insulting that the residents was not approached about this matter
Chantelle Williams (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

I'm against this as this is going to open up our are to crime. I've got children. That I need to protect. Take the people to Constantia and bishops court. Tell them this nonsense story. Im sick of this government only looking after certain people. People who don't even pay taxes or electricity.Joy Bartlett (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I'm again the moving of homeless to our sports flied why not put them in shelters for the homeless, here is so many elderly folk staying in Strandfontein WHY our sports flied where our kids have there sports think before you act totally against its not discriminating just concern about the hole homeless suggestion cos there many other places and shelters why messing our beautiful sprot fields #Asma Harrison (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

I am afraid of the consequences of having the homeless setup on the sportsfield, that is, the crime, vagrancy, begging, boycotting for more services, then we gonna have more people coming and joining, eventually we gonna have an informal settlement on this sportsfield.Kurt Europa (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I am signing to protect the current residents of Strandfontein from being exposed to foreign elements. The municipality and government must have strict measures in place to deal with what may happen and the fallout over this temporary solution.Cheslin Beukes (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
#498
I don't see how using the Strandfontein sports facilities will benefit the homeless, there is no proper fencing to keep these persons on the grounds,We are still having issue with less than standard water supply, which can make these vulnerable persons very sick, which it did to many residents
We don't have enough Police to even deal with the amount proposed and with the community at large
This is a very bad idea as we have a squatter camp meters from the sports ground
Kim Ismail (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

This is ridiculous and unfair to the people of Strandfontein that was never consulted in the first place. Why not locate them in better areas like Constantia and RondeboschJahaan Adams (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
#508
We're already overcrowded in our area. Bringing 2000 more people into the area all at once is insane and I don't stand for it.Courtneigh Davids (Cape town, 2020-04-02)
#510
We were not consulted about this. What guarantee is there that these people WILL all be moved without problems or excuses in the future.
It is cold and windy on that field and the source of our water problem we experienced, there are no facilities, there are dangerous snakes on that field.
Strandfontein is not equipped to deal or supply the needs of extra 2000 people.
The stores and facilities we have are already not enough not to mention ONE clinic serving New and Old Strandfontein,Bayview,San Remo,Pelikan Heights and three informal.settlements.
There is no guarantee that any of these 2000 people won't jump the wall and end up walking around in our areas.
Megan Michaels-Jeppe (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

This is an inhumane situation as no proper service exists and we the community were not consulted. The DA led municipality must stop bulldozing less effluent areas by just pushing matters through without consultations.

Why cant they fix our sports field for our kids?...I have no objection moving the homeless but why cant the City move them to Rondebosch Roscommon oppisite Red Cross Hospital. There is a big open field that can accommodate 2000 people but that wont happen because the "w" privileged wont be happy.Riaan Dido (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Temporary becomes permanent. inserting volumes of people into strandfontein ...how is the community supposed to recover from already strained community health and safety.A social concentration camp ...moving problems around on a chess board..when these issues needed to be tackled by a clear disaster management plan years ago.

Why cant the people be housed in the areas they frequent. What about William Herbert as Wynberg has more street people than Strandfontein. Besides inviting crime, imagine the burglary rate in our area. And AFTER the covid-19 they will never be moved. Strandfontein already has no facilities. No swimming pool etc but ONLY the sportsfield and now that is also taken away. Dan Plato is really selling us out and turning his back on his own communityMartha Delcarme (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

We the community was only informed after the decisions was made and no one asked us as rate payers our opinion. 2ndly that site is not appropriate for sheltering any humans it does not have the facilities and it was declared as a contaminated site after the incident regarding poluted water.Ayisha Parker (Southern suburb, 2020-04-02)

Strandfontein used to be a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood, and with the Informal settlement called 7de Laan, there has been a lot of incidents that affected the neighborhood and therefore im totally against it that they move more people into Strandfontein as im sure this will escalate even more and as it depreciate the value of our homesMarion Lamson (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

We BOND payers and we seriously don't need crime in our area! Our community have dealt with previous crimes before but thankful for our cops that are always there to protect our community! On the other side it will also have a huge impact on the value of our properties as well as our children who trying their utmost best to become successful in life! 2000 ppl will cause a major impact in our children's lives because most of those 2000 ppl comes from vary backgrounds and everyone doesn't raise their children the same way as WE (Our Community) does. Moving those 2000 ppl into our area is just going to create crime rate here in Strandfontein.Pls consider US as Strandfontein community. Thanks L.WaltersBayview Strandfontein

I use the sports ground as a cricketing venue as I am part of the Strandfontein Cricket Club. The fields are already dilapidated and dry, filled with holes made by rodents and mole snakes, and there is no clean ablution facilities or running water.
I doubt we will have an improvement post lockdown, and the ground is not adequate for the safe housing of homeless... whether in tents or not.
