I have watched the panto every year of my life from being a tiny girl to now, 34 years!!!!! I take my children now and they love it. This panto is a part of our family, the cast are not just actors, they are an extended part of our family that bring us joy and laughter over the Christmas period and are giving my children the chance to be a part of something extraordinary like I was as a child, a Christmas tradition we want them to hold dear. Not strangers on a stage but familiar faces that feel like friends. This cast deserve medals, not axing!!! Keep the panto and the magic this cast bring alive!!Beverly Heslop (Selby, 2020-01-11)

I believe this is not only devastating news for the cast but also the thousands of loyal fans that come back year after year. We loved this year as much, if not more than previous years and think the management are making a huge financial mistake. You need something special to compete with the other theatres at Christmas and they already have it. Why change? This is not just a signature to save and preserve this special panto but ultimately to save the theatre as I don't believe one can survive without the other.Caroline Ainley (Goole, 2020-01-11)

I have been to this wonderful panto for over 30 years. My now grown up kids have been since small. It is a fantastic family show that draws people from afar. To stop this legendary panto would be a massive loss for for everyone including the theatre itself.sharone rennoldson (Pocklington york, 2020-01-11)

I started a similar petition years ago when the theatre manager wanted to get rid of Berwick and, obviously, it was successful! We canvassed signatures outside M and S as social media was not around then! We've been to every one of Berwick's pantos and they are magic!Megan Taylor (YORK, 2020-01-11)

The Pantomime has been an annual family event for over twenty years. My children have grown up with Berwick and co. My Mum received a golden waggon wheel on her 90th Birthday. Wonderful memories that I want to see continue.Liz Furness (Leeds , 2020-01-11)

it’s a family tradition for over thirty years to go to this great panto. I’m sure if it wasn’t for this panto the theatre would be at a loss. Maybe this year people are a bit unsure of it without Berwick Kaler not being in it. But he’s still there being involved with writing it. Can’t wait to see it on the last night. I sincerely hope this panto can be savedCarole Ratcliffe (Wetherby, 2020-01-11)

If the Theatre Royal stop this panto which is famous and loved all over the UK (this just proves how insular and inward looking the TR is) it will impact on the City and it’s retail at Christmas time, due to the amount of people that come into York for the day when going to the panto.John Henderson (York, 2020-01-11)
#452
The Panto is probably one of the few remaining which is not celebrity obsessed - long may it continue!Adrian Cragg (Skipton, 2020-01-11)

As a 25 year supporter of the Theatre Royal Panto I would be extremely saddened and angry if you take this brilliant cast away from us and from the best part of Christmas for generations of Yorkshire theatregoers.Tony Baldock (York, 2020-01-11)
#454
Losing the pantomime from this theatre will be the first nail in its coffin. It has been the lifeline for the theatre for years. Thousands of loyal fans and others will be so disappointed. Ridiculous decision if it goes aheadGill Toal (YORK , 2020-01-11)
#459
The panto is part of Christmas for our family and must continue - if necessary by taking on a new Dame - though not one of the "celebs" usually brought in by other theatres. The Dame is an essential part of the panto tradition and must be scripted in.Use young home-grown talent and allow it to mature!!
Raymond and Patti Rumbold (Ripon, 2020-01-11)

We have been coming to the panto for many years both as a family and with the York & District Diabetes UK Group. It would be a big hole in our annual enjoyment if the regular cast we have enjoyed seeing for many years do not return in future years. Long live York Panto!Christine Guy (York, 2020-01-11)

I have seen every one of the famous York pantos, and it is a part of mine and hundreds of others traditions at XmasRoger Hitchcox (York, 2020-01-11)

It is the best pantomime ever. The loyalty that brings the pantomime viewers coming back year after year is incredible. It saddens my heart that this is being ruined by people who obviously don't have a sense of loyalty in the community. We don't want tacky TV stars in every year we want out babbie and bairn family.Jen Guy (York, 2020-01-11)

This Panto is one of the best in the country, sells well and brings an audience from far and wide. What on earth are the management thinking about trying to cancel it, absolutely insane commercially and a very sad loss to local and regional theatre.Margaret Luckus (Middlesbrough , 2020-01-11)

I won't be revisiting the panto at York Theatre Royal again if they axe the current cast.I have been to most of the pantos involving Berwick and the crew. Over 35 of them in total and this is a kick in the teeth for everyone involved for so long.

My dad made this a family tradition and never missed a year for over thirty years. He even has a plaque dedicated to him on the back of a seat. I’m disgusted that the Panto is being treated so badly by theatre management.Claire Wiltse (Lebanon, 2020-01-11)
#559
I think it's appalling that the Theatre Royal management are even considering ending the pantomime with the current cast. They have been a part of so many peoples lives for many years. Until my retirement from work 8 years ago, I used to bring along 60+ people every year and many of those still come along. Shame on the management, it is they who should be looking for other jobs.Sue Thorn (Easingwold, 2020-01-11)
#561
I'm signing because we have been coming to this panto for the last 24 years. It is a huge part of our Christmas tradition and we will not attend a panto without this cast, it is the cast that we are loyal to, not the theatre.Jacqueline Thrall (Pickering , 2020-01-11)

I’m not normally one to write a comment but feel I must defend the cast and writers of the annual rubbish! Brilliant Panto as ever! The cast held their own with out Berwicks stage presence! Iv been coming for over 20 years with a group of family or friends. My 3 year old daughter loved the songs, sets and characters & even got a wagon wheel! It’s a real shame to hear that the relatively new management have took this brash decision. They obviously do not know their audience as the think they do! They will loose generations of loyal supporters regardless of any decision they make now.Nobody wants another washed up soap star in a panto!
I think the cast should find an alternative venue and let their loyal audience vote with their feet.
York Theatre Royal sadly I think you have shot your self’s in the foot, which is a great shame for the city but even more so for your revenue!
Nick Dean (York, 2020-01-11)

I’m signing because the York panto is a staple. You need to let things develop on their own now Berwick has gone. But the rest of the cast are amazing and deserve to carry on providing fun for everyone.Jill Shipley (York, 2020-01-11)
#581
York Theatre Royal panto is traditional panto at its very best. Not ‘big named Stars’ who don’t understand Yorkies humour. If Theatre Royal sacks the cast they will live to regret the loss of revenue.Edna Haigh (York, 2020-01-11)
