Quite apart from liad shedding our electricity is constantly off. Yesterday for 13 hours. Reason given was the sub station in Peter road blew up or is on fire. Cables stolen continually. Why can't a plan be made to ensure the non removal of cables? Why can't they be made to seriously shock the thieves? Why cant a security company be hired to safeguard the "popular" sites, it would be so much cheaper than replacing the cables weekly. Why is regular and effective maintenance not done? So many new schools, complexes, shopping malls etc built with no thought as to whether existing infrastructure can cope. New developments should be forced to install and pay for new sub stations. With loadshedding and outages almost daily for hours on end why are our monthly Bill's not less? Eskom must be responsible for the cost of damaged appliances and spoiled food. Maybe if they have to pay for our losses they might actually do something worthwhile. Not forgetting the people who are on oxygen 24/7 and other life saving equipment, must they just be left to suffer and die? And with the lack of care, qualified staff etc etc Eskom has the unbelievable audacity and cheek to ask for an increase!!!! And their audit shows they have 16000 unnecessary staff. We are always victims of lack of power supply. Moved into the area in December 2019 but the amount of power outages are not realistic and City Power is not coming forward with an explanation of what is causing them.
