A Central High School senior denied to walk at graduation.

I’m signing this because no first time offense should be punished this severe. This is one of the most important moments in a teenager life. Parents have spent hundreds of dollars to prepare for this day all for it to be snatched because he defended himself. The new principal takes things to the extreme & it’s not cool at all.

Regina Eddie (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#209

A good kid that deserves to walk with his classmates

Demitrius Sanders (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#210

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity & he deserves to walk at the graduation

Tawanna Chambers (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#211

I’m signing because this is wrong. Everyone deserves the chance to walk at their graduation, and if this young 9th grader will get to when he’s ready to graduate, so should Wilson.

Elizabeth Jordan (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#217

He should be able to graduate he doesn’t have a past record and it was self defense.

makenzie carnes (pageland, 2024-05-17)

#218

Im signing this petition because I believe in fairness. If there was a disciplinary consequence for his actions (which I’m sure there is in the handbook-5day OSS) that should be what is done. Especially for first offense, where a student is hit first, and then defended himself. Nothing is stated about being denied the chance to walk across stage so why would that even be an option. The 9th grader doesn’t lose anything if that nature so where is the equality? Is that what we’re showing and teaching our students? I’m not asking you to find something to take from the other student but let Mr Wilson WALK!!!

Jonnas Chapman (Patrick, 2024-05-17)

#221

High School Graduation is a one time opportunity and it shouldn’t be taken away for a bad decision or based on the decision of one man

Rickey Wright (Mcbee, 2024-05-17)

#222

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” A LITTLE grace goes a LONG way. LET HIM WALK.

Tina Johnson (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#224

it's only right y'all left this young man walk, most people dream of this moment their whole lives no way yall should take it away from him for defending himself.

Dontavis Edwards (Mcbee, 2024-05-17)

#232

No person should be punished for defending their self.

Gary Bragg (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#233

I’m signing this because that’s unfair he needs to walk for his graduation especially if it wasn’t his fault.

Tamyia Tatem (Mount croghan, 2024-05-17)

#235

It’s been several fights at Central this school year and the students only received a suspension. Seems like it’s only the seniors receiving expulsion. Denorris is a great, well mannered young man. Never gives anyone any problems. Always does what he’s asked and I’ve also witnessed him volunteer his help to others. He deserves to be able to walk with his graduating class.

Yasmine Brown (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#236

Y’all wrong for denying him to walk at graduation for defending himself! Think about it ! This is a once in a lifetime event for him! I have a son so this is near and dear to my heart ❤️!! So have a heart and let him graduate the right way especially since he has a phenomenal track record.

April Gholar (Montgomery, 2024-05-17)

#239

I have known this child from a baby and he has been zero problems! He works hard, well mannered, and a go getter!

lauren brewer (pageland, 2024-05-17)

#241

He shouldn’t be denied the chance to walk because someone else decided to instigate a fight and he defended himself

Michelle H. (29728, 2024-05-17)

#242

This young man has worked extremely hard for this big accomplishment so it’s only right he get what’s his.

TKeyah Wright (McBee, 2024-05-17)

#246

I seen the fight he was just asking questions and the kid was fighting first

hunter Gurganious (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#249

I’m signing this because the young man needs to walk across the stage. They have proof on cameras and witnesses about the incident. What more do they need. If he haven’t been in anymore trouble why hinder him from walking with his class! LET THE YOUNG MAN WALK ACROSS THE STAGE!

Capricia Richardson (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#250

My cousin deserves to walk

Ryan Johnson (Jefferson sc, 2024-05-17)

#253

This is a milestone in life that everyone looks forward to achieving.

Lala Thomas (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#259

It's not fair!!!!!!!

Laura McCaskill (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#262

I’m signing this because it’s sad how the people who supposed to help get us to the next level and step of our lives easily can take all of that away. You have a witness and multiple teachers telling you how much of a great student he is and you take away a memory not only from him but his family? I understand there’s policies you gotta uphold, but this is definitely uncalled for. The system don’t want you to fight back someone who is attacking you now? I bet if the principal got attacked, he would’ve done the same thing. Let him walk.

Elyjab Sowell (Kershaw, 2024-05-17)

#263

The young man deserves to participate in his graduation ceremony!

Latoyia Guinn (Fort mill, 2024-05-17)

#271

He should be able to walk. Self defense is a must.

Terrell Nivens (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#272

It’s not right

Onarae Quick (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#274

I think if this young man has did what he had to do to walk and been a good student year round that he deserves to walk.

Maurice Bittle (Ruby, 2024-05-17)

#276

How you gonna deny a child from walking across the stage for DEFENDING HIS SELF!!

Dasia Melton (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#278

This young man has beat all odds and after one simple mistake he is getting something that most black young men his age don’t even live to see taken away from him. I think taken this away is so cruel when the other student is a misbehaved student please allow this young man to walk with his class of 2024

Sherrice Little (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#279

I am choosing to sign this petition because Denorris Wilson deserves to be recognized for his hard work and dedication throughout his high school career. Denorris has maintained excellent academic and athletic records, and it is unjust to penalize him for defending himself in a situation where he was not the aggressor. The evidence shows that he was attacked first and did not seek out conflict. Denying him the opportunity to walk at his graduation undermines the fairness and integrity that our educational institutions should uphold. It is crucial that we stand together as a community to support Denorris and ensure that he receives the recognition he has rightfully earned.

Bebe Myers (Charlotte, 2024-05-17)

#280

If he was defending himself no reason for him not to be able to walk across that stage!!!

Luvina Tamez (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#281

I have a son too and I be damn if they bust thier tales for 12 years! And can not walk!

Krista Griffin (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#282

I’m signing because every child deserves to walk they put the hard work in let that baby walk

Destiny Miller (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#289

Sometimes people make mistakes. Anything earned and deserving should be a moment to celebrate and he should also walk that stage as a reward to success. Don't take that away from what is deserved.

Deondrea McManus (., 2024-05-17)

#290

He should be able to walk if he didn't start

Karen McClain (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#293

Jr is an exceptional young man. He deserves nothing less than to walk with his fellow classmates in such an important milestone in life. His actions to defend himself should not be punished in such a manner. He has always been an upstanding student, someone with integrity, and has shared his school spirit with all of his peers. His actions were provoked and senseless by the other party. This young man deserves to be recognized for his accomplishments by his family and given the opportunity to start his new chapter in life with positivity.

Debra Walters (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#294

It’s not fair that he can’t walk because of self defense.

Tia Miller (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#295

He deserves to walk that stage for his hard work especially NOT ever getting in any trouble his 4 years at Central

Jessica Watson (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#297

This young man should have the opportunity to walk across the stage for his graduation.

Natasha Chambers (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#299

You should be able to defend yourself from violence. There are grey areas to many rules and part of being a leader is making these tough decisions. Sometimes leaders just want to be correct, no matter who it affects. This ruling is wrong and pride shouldn’t be part of not letting this young man enjoy his accomplishments.

Brandon Kee (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#302

Every young man should b able to walk being black is hard enuff

Ron Wilson (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#303

He should be able to walk with his class!!! This is a big moment!!!!

Kimberly Welch (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#304

The young man should not be punished in this manner. He should be allowed to walk with his class!

Bobby Miller (Chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#308

It is the right thing to do.

Marie Plyler (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#311

Jr has always been a nice and respectful person. He has never been in trouble and was only defending thimself. He has already been punished for what took place and not being allowed to walk with his class after all of his hard work is harsh punishment.

Krystal Johnson (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#312

He’s a good kid and I believe him

Christopher Norris (Hartsville, 2024-05-17)

#314

I'm signing because it's not his fault if it's self defense. If there is evidence proving that the 9th grader has a history of starting fights, then how can you punish the senior when all they did was defend themselves. Let's put it in a different perspective! Let's say a person has you held at gun point. Is it your fault that your being held at gun point? No! The gunman choose to start something and if you happen to have a permit to legally carry and your carrying your gun your gonna use it to defend yourself, because you didn't ask to be robbed or to be in the situation. So say you shoot the gunman in the shoulder to where he can survive and still live on. It would be wrong if you was the one who got arrested when there's video and evidence that he was the one trying to hurt you and rob you.
Who's to say that in the fight situation that happened at the school was his fault? Unless the cameras clearly show him swinging first I believe that he should still walk. Who's to say that if he didn't defend himself and let the other student beat him, that he would still be here today. There's endless possibilities especially when our fight or flight responses kick in. The other student could've knocked the senior hard on the ground and make him hit his head a couple of times and cause him to had a brain bleed. What would yall be saying instead? Knowing people and their word of mouth they probably would be saying, " oh why didn't he defend himself?"

My name is Regina Burgess-cleary and I'm a former graduate of Central highschool 2021. I've seen so many different things happen in this life inside and outside of the school and I believe that he should walk!

Regina Burgess-cleary (Jefferson, 2024-05-17)

#317

He has the right to walk. Defending yourself should not be a crime.

Karen Bill (Fort Law, 2024-05-17)

#318

i’m signing because this isn’t right !! and if the situation was flipped you’d feel the same way. this is definitely self defense and ik personally how he feels especially being that he’s a student that never gets in trouble!

cherita burns (cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#319

I’m signing because you only get a chance to walk across the stage once in your life! He has a perfect school record and make him miss out on this for another bad students actions is absurd!

Angel Livesay (Lancaster, 2024-05-17)

#323

The young man stood up for himself and deserves to walk.

William Ennis (Rock Hill, 2024-05-17)

#326

Every child who has made it that far deserves that opportunity.

Nicole Blakeney (Indian Trail, 2024-05-17)

#329

Self defense is NOT a crime! Let this young man walk!

Holly Jernigan (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#330

The other student initiated the fight there should be no reason why a senior that’s been working hard for four years should not be able to walk across the stage because he got hit first and defended himself.

Courtney Allen (Charlotte, 2024-05-17)

#333

It's heartbreaking. If a student has worked so hard to accomplish finishing school in this day and time they deserve to walk across the stage! Especially with no troubled record and not starting the altercation that's now trying to hold him back. LET HIM WALK!

Ashley Whitmore (Lancaster, 2024-05-17)

#336

No child should be denied to walk for their graduation after all the hard work they put in I mean just making it through high school is tough. Think about it, would the teachers be mad if they was denied their paychecks because the yelled at a student or even disrespected them like some of them always do? But these days they suspend them with pay whenever they do something against students. Let this young man walk he earned it and he deserves it!

Shekita Lindsey (Huntersville, 2024-05-17)

#337

He’s a great kid!! His mom works extremely hard and he deserves to walk. This baby has worked so hard and he doesn’t deserve to miss out on a day so special due to self defense. Please let him walk for graduation!!!

Shakira Lockhart (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#341

Because he deserves it and the decision was unfair.

Rikki Tillman (Marshville, 2024-05-17)

#345

This is not right someone needs to to the board

Sequawna Rogers (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#353

I feel as if mr wilson was using his rights and only defending him self . he apologized and there’s proof he didn’t start the fight , he did nothing wrong in my eyes . ; seems like discrimination to me!

ashley cash (chesterfield, 2024-05-17)

#354

Very respectable fine young man! Student-Athlete, Never caused problems or been a problem child.

Hamp Blakeney (Bennettsville, 2024-05-17)

#358

I believe he should be able to walk.

Tristine Lotharp (Nashville, 2024-05-17)

#360

I'm signing this petition because I also have a son that graduates this year and we would be just as devastated as this family is if my child was not allowed to walk for graduation simply because he defended himself. The law allows self defense. How can the principle punish Denorris for doing something that's lawful?!?!?! It's not right and he should not ruin this lifetime experience for Denorris and his family.

ASHAWNDA HANNAH (Columbia, 2024-05-17)

#361

He deserves to walk!

Precious Merriman (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#368

I’m signing because I’m a worker at central and I know him, he’s a good student and a good sweet boy

Matilde Avalos (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#369

I’m signing because Wilson has proven to be an amazing student and has done everything he was supposed to do to make it to one of the most important days of his life. If there’s video evidence of this young man having to defend himself, he should not be punished for having to do so. He earned his right to participate in his graduation ceremony. Imagine you’re in a pool and someone is trying to hold you under the water. Are you going to drown or are you going to fight for your life?? Give this young man the opportunity to end his high school career the right way.

Jantorial Hannah-McClellan (Marion, 2024-05-17)

#370

I’m signing this because it’s unfair and wrong. This young man worked hard all 12 years to complete school and it took only a few seconds or minutes for someone to steal his joy. I feel like if the other child started, then this young man should be able to defend himself. It’s just not fair. Please let this young man walk..
THIS SHOULD BE SHARED WITH THE MEDIA……

Shacuria Threatt (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#371

His hard works speak.for itself. He is a very respectful young man also hard working. No one wants be a punching bag. He had every right to stand up for themselves. Question: for the principle if a person walked up to him and knocks the fool out of him would he just walk away. We all know he wouldn't so it's not fair that this baby can't walk with his class. Central High School needs to do better!

Blanita Horne-Chambersp (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#373

He worked hard and deserves to walk despite the incident that happened which wasn’t his fault. He was just defending himself which I’m sure anybody would. Letting him walk across the stage to get his diploma wouldn’t hurt at all. It’s not like he’ll be returning the next school year. He is a child that’s very respectful and doesn’t get into trouble or cause any trouble. If this was your child you would be hurt and doing everything possible so that your child could walk. Maybe you should put yourself into someone else’s shoes for once and see how you would feel.

Latoya Gaither (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#374

Every child deserves to walk across ANY stage after the accomplishments they’ve worked so hard to achieve in the classroom and on the field ! This will truly put a damper in how he will see the world from this point on if he’s not treated with the respect he deserves! This young man is a great young man who is one of many who will do great things in life and I hope he’s really able to walk to get his final awards to end his childhood and to welcome him into the adult hood with open arms !!

Kymberly Little (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#376

Denorris should be able to walk. It’s not like he’s a troublemaker

Brandi Blakeney (Charlotte, 2024-05-17)

#378

He was punished with suspension. This child must walk, he deserves it‼️🙏🏽🤞🏽❤️

Shonte Rushing (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#381

I’m signing this petition in an effort to help this gentleman be able to walk with his class.

Rosalina Anguiano (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#384

I know him personally, and I know how hard he’s worked to get to this point. I don’t feel like he should have his hard work thrown down the drain for defending himself, especially when he wasn’t the enforcer.

Jamell Williams (Cheraw, 2024-05-17)

#385

Where to start. This Principle should be fired. You only been there for 2 years probably & think you were the shit when i was there. You’re a POS. How dare you not let a student walk after it was proven he was not the one who started the altercation. A person who worked really hard for years to just walk which is a huge mile stone. I can go longer ranting but if you read this, POS

Mr Principal Should Be Fired (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#388

He deserves to walk with his class on May 25th, he is not a child who gets in trouble, he was defending himself just like you would have defended yourself, yes he deserves to walk with his class!

Nyla Funderburk (Pageland, 2024-05-17)

#389

I sign because one day this can be me ! #JUSTICE

Saniyah Gwyn (Monroe, 2024-05-17)

#391

I’m signing this because this young man deserves to walk , because all of his accomplishments outweigh this one transgression. We all deserve GRACE. I guess the principal doesn’t want to give in and is using this situation to show his authority. A true leader should know when to show mercy and when to prove a point . This is one of those times when grace and forgiveness should be exercised!

Angie Ennis (Indian Land, 2024-05-17)

#395

He have the rights to defend himself and he have the rights to walk the stage at graduation as much as everyone else!! Right is right and wrong is wrong && to the principal YOU ARE WRONG!!
