The Maldon Easter parade and all that surrounds it is a VERY important part of our town! It is unfair that now all of a sudden it is being meddled with by vicroads. Find another way to bypass the trucks around. There will be thousands of people on the streets and it it too risky to have trucks going through the middle of town. Keep the parade as it always has been for the 140 off years running.Keren Hamilton (Baringhup, 2023-04-07)

The parade supports a vital small town economy driven predominantly by tourism, and has a long history in Maldon's community.Holly Bretherton (Brisbane, 2023-04-07)

Rural towns need these parades not only for the community, but to attract neighbouring communities & tourists to come & enjoy small hospitality that is vital for small Rural businesses. Without tourism, these small towns fizzle & become ghost towns. Don't let this town become a "once known" town by denying them of these events throughout the year. This parade has been a traditional event for over a century. Small minded politicians need to start thinking about these small towns & support them before they disappear! A 2hr closure of a road is not the be all & end all of life, but it could be to these small towns if they're denied these parades in the future. The other word in "community" is "unity". They're all coming together to fight as one to keep this parade. Keep that in mind!

I’m signing because we live in an insular world. This parade is all about community and bringing people together. How can we not protect that. From the little kids at the schools to the different community groups it is important. That’s why so many people come from Melbourne to be a part of this unique get together that has been happening for 146 years. Please protect it. It is really Important.Robyn Riley (Maldon, 2023-04-07)

VicRoads is full of idiots from the city who have no concept of what it's like living in the country and are just trying to justify their jobs by screwing over small towns. Stopping an almost 150 year old tradition all for the sake of not having to do the work to detour vehicles and trucks for a couple of hours is an absolute joke. Letting both cars and trucks just barrel on through a goddamn parade where there are families and children and people on the r o a d is dangerous but apparently not a concern to them at all. Bunch of clowns.Lily Nurse (Avoca, 2023-04-07)

I’ve participated in the parade as both a child and adult and find it extremely difficult to understand why the street cannot be closed for a maximum of 2 hours for the enjoyment of the surrounding community. I am a resident of Maldon and live on High St. Maldon's Easter Parade is a very long standing tradition in this historical town. The Easter Festival is vitally important to the town's economy and the Parade brings in visitors from near and far every year. It should be protected and supported by Government agencies from local council, State and Federal.Additionally, as a resident of High St, I agree the zoning of High St as a national truck route has made it dangerous for people, travellers and infrastructure; particularly when so many trucks do not comply with speed limits of 60 and 40 through our town, especially at night.
Vic Roads refusing to commit to closing the road for up to 2 hours on a public holiday each year appears mean-spirited and illogical.

This small town depends on both locals and tourists for survival. The Easter celebration brings people into the area and helps to support local businesses. Our smaller roads are not suited to large trucks which should be diverted to larger, safer routes. I’ve seen trucks speeding through our 40kph streets putting lives at risk. We have an older demographic and sometimes they struggle to get out of the way of these trucks!!

The parade is a long running tradition. I grew up in Maldon and have fond memories of both attending and marching in the parade every year as a child and teen. As someone who lives and has worked with the Maldon community, I know the Easter Parade is one of the busiest times of the year. So much damage will be done to the town as a whole by changing this yearly tradition. If big festivals can close off whole areas of the city, or streets in Bendigo, then surely 2hrs once a year will not impact the truck drivers.Sian Slowik (Maldon, 2023-04-10)

I am a resident and multiple rate payer of maldon for 33 years and this is an very important part of our family life. We had our family of 4 children in maldon and this parade is a part of a a generational culture in this town. All our children and their children are here for the parade every year they have been in the parade as children themselves. The importance of this tradition to stay the same as it has done for many generations is part of the fabric of the town and childhood memories. To change this would be like taking a piece of our life’s away and would alter the tradition …… please consider the impact this will have on generations of families in this beloved town and allow us to keep our parade as it has always been.Lynn Mcshanag (Maldon, 2023-04-10)

I grew up in Maldon, it is a very special place. Despite no longer living in Maldon, I still think of it as home. The Maldon community is something special, where the locals look out for each other, and welcome in the many tourists that come to visit. One of the biggest weekends in the calendar for Maldon, is the 4 day long weekend. Lights placed on the tower, the scone cook off, the Saturday night dancing in the street with the Main Street closed off by hay bails, just to name a few. The Easter parade is always a highlight of the weekend, I myself participated in a number of parades, the most dear are the 3 years, my work place Cafe Maldon, entered and won first prize. The buzz in around Maldon during Easter certainly brings back amazing memories for me. To hear that the Easter celebrations could be impacted, makes me very sad.

Regional communities need help, not hindrance, in maintaining a sense of connection, tradition and joy. For the sake of a few hours in a whole year, and given that access to the Main Street relies on this circuitous route, the cost vs benefit analysis should be self evidentTina Pop (Balaclava, 2023-04-10)

Thé Maldon Easter Parade is an important yearly event that has been held here for the past 140 plus years in our historic tourist township. Hundreds of people come to Maldon every Easter to enjoy our Easter events; the streets are packed with people to watch the Easter Parade, it is a tradition that we must continue. Without our tourists Maldon businesses would struggle to survive!! Closing High Street for a couple of hours to hold the Easter Parade on Easter Monday, when there is very few trucks on the road is a small inconvenience compared to the benefit’s of holding the Parade.Andrea Lee (Maldon, 2023-04-10)

It’s a good family atmosphere and a relaxed and fun filled day for all to have. I’m sure if Bendigo can close its city down for a day Maldon can too with ease. Bring on the 147th year and many more to come, keep tradition alive.Nathaniel Knight (Bendigo, 2023-04-10)

Maldon easter parade is a significant historical community cultural event that should be preserved. It is also one of the main attractions that enables small businesses to stay viable. The heritage buildings should not be subjected to the vibrations caused by heavy vehicles. The street scape was not designed to cater for b-double trucks. I was a home owner in Maldon & to have a fair that has run continuously for over 140 years is something the council & Vic Toads should be supporting & getting behind. Why is it such a problem now? Why to we have people wanting to stop beloved traditions such as this?On a side note big vehicles should NOT be travelling through this beautiful historic town anyway - so dangerous. (How about they focus on this!)
But to divert traffic for a small period of time should not be made such a big issue.
Shame on Vic Roads & the council for continually putting obstacles in the way of an event that brings tourist & money into the region. Future generations should be able to experience ALL aspects as it has always been done for the next 100 years!!

This is not only the oldest Easter parade in Victoria, it is the best of country town Victoria showing up & celebrating not only Easter, but all of the services in the region, including bith local & CFA units from Bendigo & surrounds; it’s our oldest town at its best & brings tourists from all over. Tourism is the number one priority to keep Historical towns like Maldon alive & the mere thought of closing a road so a damn truck can pass through in what takes less than half a day is nit only ludicrous, it’s shameful. When on earth will Govt bodies wake up & literally smell the smoke, for stopping the parade to keep a road open for a few hours over Easter, is as good as setting a tourist hot spot on fire. The trucks can wait, the trucks can reschedule, the egg farmers won’t lose a penny; I’m an event manager, if you need assistance reconfiguring a simple travel plan so the road can close, I am more than happy to show you how it’s done.Joanne Rosanoski (Romsey, 2023-04-10)

The loss and destruction of the businesses in Maldon, by an inept government, has already caused monumental damage and we can not afford to loose the Easter Fair as well.
