As an avid amateur darts player in North Brisbane, I'm extremely disappointed to find out that this decision was made, in the first place, without any real research or assessment into this world level, and legendary sport that is much older than soccer or rugby or even golf. I’m signing because I truly believe darts should be recognised as a sport & recreation. It provides the opportunity for many people, who have incapacitating health issues that stop them from participating in more active games, to compete and be part of a team, as well as the opportunity to socialise and bond and create new friendships. I am a dart player myself and love it. It’s also one of the few activities that allows different ages to play together, making it a great family activity.

I own and operate a venue with Pool, Snooker and Darts. All are sports that require skill, discipline and practice and are exceptional sports for all ages to play and engage in. Not all want or are able to chase balls around a field! As part of a committee whose members over the years have mortgaged their properties to build a first class hall dedicated to the playing of darts and whose club has produced world senior and junior champions it is extraordinary that we are are unable to apply for grants to help us repair damage to our hall as a result of the 2019 weather event in Townsville. It is hard to understand why someone who has not competed in a competition against other teams whether for an evening or several days can say there is no physical energy/stamina required. My challenge to those in Sport and Recreation who have decided that darts is not a sport is for them to actually compete in a competition and then decide it is not physical enough.

From personal experience running a darts shop, I have found darts to be a very accessible sport for all ages and income brackets. We have seen previously shy junior players who may not be adept at other sports excel at darts and their confidence, mathematics and strategic thinking skills grow exponentially. For some of us the distance to the ochi and the distance to the board repeatedly for practice and competition, is the only exercise we are capable of. Also the mental artihmetic required to play is stimulating. We have continued to play during the covid period using smart phones etc to keep in contact with others. If Archery qualifies so does darts. The fact that it's recognised World Wide as a sport shows just how out of touch the law makers in Queensland are. By the way there are a lot of us who play and we vote.

I have played darts socially and competitively all my life. One of the first things to go up in a recreation room is a dart board and I have actually even got one at child height hanging under mine to allow youngsters to play.
