I would like to see fair representation of Darlington regardless of color. True that everyone makes mistakes and falls short but when you do my mama taught me at a young age to say I’m sorry which Ms. Baccus won’t even do which further shows she truly meant what she said. We need to improve our town not destroy it.Crystal Kelly (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

Racial profiling comes from both sides. If the white police officer would have made these comments he would have already been firedRacism is racism no matter what race slurs it.

She is a public figure. In the position that she is in, I feel that she sould be a rold model other's in our community. What she done was a disgrace to her and what she represents. She should be a leader, not a follower. No one, and I do mean no one, should get away with disrespecting a police officer. They are here to protect us, and has one of the lowest paying jobs around.Sharon Smallwood (Lamar, 2020-07-23)

Tolerance of behavior like this from an elected official is not compatible with a civilized society. We as a community have to denounce this in the strongest manner possible which is removal from elected office.Stephen Schwartz (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

I'm signing because I want Ms. Baccus removed from her seat on the city council. She's disrespectful and is one of the reasons this country can't move on and grow as a people. She had NO RIGHT to speak to our awesome police officers like she did. I'm not sure if she was trying to show off in front of her friend or just simply had nothing better to do but be a hateful, miserable, racist old woman, and I really don't care what her reason was. She does not deserve to be on the city council and I do not want my tax dollars used to give that racist woman a paycheck. Her racism and hatred toward white people and police officers, in my opinion, makes her unqualified to work in any political position.Whitney Flores Williams (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

There is too much unrest and anger in this world already. Allowing those who are suppose to be leaders in our communities to act in such an unapologetic and disrespectful way only encourages others to do the same. I'm signingvthis petition because I know beyond a shadow of doubt that had the officer said someting in a racist manner this officer would have been immediately fired from his job. Racism does not only mean white on black. It is any race making disparaging comments to another regardless of race. We need to be ONE RACE THE HUMAN RACE! She needs to be immediately removed from her office. If not, the slurs to the fine police officers in the State of South Carolina will see much more of this nastiness! I will tell you I would feel the same regardless of the skin tone of the person making such comments. We as a county do not need someone onesided on the council. Thank you for your time.Patricia Howell (Lamar, 2020-07-23)

A woman who worked for the city of Darlington made a remark during the protests that was going in and was fired from her job in the city of Darlington. Baccus makes a horrible remark to an officer and more than anything it was racial, yet she still had her job. This is not right at all! Officers put their lives in the line daily to protect and serve all lives. Yet he was not only told in front of others publicly the racist remarks toward him, the officer was also humiliated, degraded, and embarrassed. Are we all that simple minded or even scared that Baccus is allowed to make such horrible remarks to a police officer that was more than anything a very racial remark that she can still get away with it and still keep her job? If that is the case, then the woman that was fired for making remarks and worked for the city for 20 years, well she to should be reinstated her job.Cynthia Hopkins (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

Any member of city council should uphold the law and should be held accountable for unlawful behavior. Also, in a time where the country is being driven by racial tension due to inequality, this woman should be dismissed of her seat on city council and he held accountable for racist remarks just like many others that are having to face consequences for their words and actions. Anything less than this would be a lack of justice to all races. Anyone, regardless of race should be held accountable for this type of behavior.Lyn McCracken (Florence, 2020-07-23)

No racist should be in her position of power!!!Chet Crowley (Hartsville, 2020-07-23)
#391
As a councilwoman, she should have been WAY more professional. First, she was breaking a law and thought she was above it. She resorted to making racial statements. Just because it is a black person going against a whites person does not mean it should be seen lightly. Second, the councilwoman should not have taken it where she did. She was mad and thought she could intimidate the officer given the current environment. She abused her powers in more ways than oneJennifer Wilson (Ladson, 2020-07-23)
#393
No form of racism is okay. And as a councilman, they are the leaders of their community. How they treat someone sets the tone and makes other feel like their harsh words and treatment of other are okay. And it’s not.Amanda Matthews (Dallas, 2020-07-23)

Government officials are held to a higher standard when serving in office and blatant misconduct or disregard and disrespect for laws that we all are to abide by can not be overlooked or brushed aside. Integrity matters.Todd Manson (Darlington, 2020-07-23)

Our men in blue deserve better treatment, just like the treatment they give to citizens they come in contact with all over the world. If a white cop had said the things she did to a black individual, he would have been terminated without questions. Time to you do the same to This council women.Mandie Relguk (Lyman, 2020-07-23)
