I’m a resident of Strandfontein and I don’t believe that after lockdown is over these people will be provided suitable accommodation. This will further increase our already over populated informal settlements and further burden our police force here in our area. This is our areas only recreational field.Renee Uys (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

The reason I am not in favour of this move to sports field, notwithstanding the reason for such a move, I present the following argument.First, these individuals have not been tested to establish that they do not present with the COVID19 virus. This is a risk to put them in such a small community, that contact with such persons may be detrimental to the community and public at large. Secondly, the resources such as water is already scarce and was contaminated from the very area you envisage to put these persons. Thirdly, crime in this area will increase as this area not secure enough to ensure that persons placed there, will not roam around in the area during day or night. This is already an issue, with people knocking on doors, even in this time of lockdown, as they have no sense of law and order. Fourthly, increasing the population in strandfontein will deplete the already limited resources. Finally, these persons could be placed in an area where they will not pollute or throw rubbish around, as some do in other informal settlements. This is an area frequently used by young people for sports. If anyone there should be infected it will not be conducive to those that will be using the facility after lockdown is lifted, it will be hazardous area and unsafe for recreational purpose especially for children playing on grass, as the virus could live there for a while. Other areas are experiencing great difficulty with policing such areas. The threat of corona virus is eminent and this move may be the reason that could make things worse for the community of strandfontein and neighbouring suburbs.
Please reconsider another alternative as this may be the most detrimental decision you will have ever made.
Thank you
Fay Safodien (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

I support this petition against placing homeless on the Strandfontein Sports field. Please move them to Constantia, Westlake, Newlands, Rondebosh, Claremont, Tokai or Noordhoek where there's better resources to accommodate their needs. Strandfontein sports field is no place for the homeless.Farhaana Damon (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Cannot see how that space is good to house 2000 people, it will be a health risk.Eleanor Kock (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Surely there are other options. Why use our sportsfield when it is there for the youth. . After the 21-days they will still be there and we will have this influx of people walking around in the area. It is already bad as it is at the moment.Shereen Mallick (Cape,Town, 2020-04-02)

These people are not from around here, and can corrupt the place even more than it already is.Caryn-anne Burns (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

Each area to take care of their own thus spreading the load. No infrastructure in place. Western Cape Government trying hard to exploit Strandfontein for some time now. 'Perfect' timing using the vulnerable.Eugene Wyngaard (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I'm signing as I was never asked and as I am part of this community I refuse to just accept things without having a say. I feel we already having alot of break ins in this area as people need to leave early for work. We hardly have anything in this area. You will never be able to move them out what about our children that is their omly form of sports. How filthy will it be I think it's unfair what about open fields in other areas in Kirstenbosch where ther is not even children to enjoy that facilities. Please reconsider this. I am strongly against this.Ruth Adonis (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

No consent from rate payers to setup and we already have too much homeles peole living here move them to Zandvlei capsite its fenced off.Cheslyn Youle (Cape town, 2020-04-02)
#240
There are already too many informal settlements. How is it possible to fit more people in when there isn't even enough proper housing for the people in the informal settlements. The shacks are alrady over crowded
Rebekah Samuel (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

This move is dangerous for the homeless people as well as for the community. There is no running water or ablution facilities. Many homeless people are addicts, there are no hospitals or health care facilities in the area. The decision to dump these people here is a humanitarian disgrace because they are sending them to die on that freezing sports field.Mandy Van Willingh (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

The sudden allocation of this Land to people outside of the area , is problematic becauseThe Government / City are introducing Homeless and Jobless people into the Strandfontein area.
Once Lockdown is over, many of those accommodated would in most likelihood not want to Leave.
We are worried about crime, especially at Night.
Also, the City had not seen it fit to do the SAME for the few Homeless in our area, during the MANY Winters, why this plot, and why now suddenly.
Therefore I say " NO"!
Owen Simons (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Places with better facilities could have been utilized. We recently had a water contamination from this site and so not want a repeat. Why are army camps or their recreational sites not being used as there would be better controlRosemarie Muller (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

There are so many other uncultivated areas to that have potential why stuff 2000 more people into our small little Village .Luciano Solomon (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I am signing because there is land in other areas that have better conditionsAs in clean water and toilets
Not against helping the homeless but put them in Claremont or sea point...use the halls of those areas....come on man...we not dumping grounds...that sports field is extremely cold and winter is coming....you dont live here...we know how cold it can be and that is not going to help them in any way

There is no proper infrastructure currently in Strandfontein , let alone for an additional 2000 people. By allowing this movement please note that the crime statistics is moderate for the area and bare in mind we not sure what elements are going to be moving into the area. The fear of this is that there are MANY ELDERLY persons living in the area, allowing an additional 2000 unknown elements will cause stress and panic among these elderly as the crime rate will surely boost in the area. Please leave Strandfontein along and move those people into another suburb.Christo Kruse (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Ivm signing this petition as I don't agree with the decision to house people temporarily on the sportsfield in our area. Little or no community involvement was done to come to this conclusion.Bradwin Harris (CAPE TOWN, 2020-04-02)

We have not been notified about this move to house 2000 homeless people. There is no toilets, water enough for these people. How do we know that they will stay on the premises without coming out and cause a disturbance. This has not been done in a fair manner.

I know of enclosed sportfields in a host of other areas, yet they chose Strandfontein which is already struggling with it's own issues,ie. nearby sqatter camps, gangsterism, drugs, loitering, theft, break-ins,robberies, to mention a few. Non of the more privileged areas considered. Why not use William Herbert in Wynberg to mention just one.Kearns Morris (Strandfontein, Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I am.opposed to.moving the people to an unhealthy stretch of.lqnd which not so.long ago, was the vocal point of water contamination. And when the CV is over, will we have a sports field available again?Abraham Du plessis (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

Our area is under resourced in terms of policing and the crime rate is high. The police station is under staffed and the crime varies to very serious crime. The police has to cover a large area. I moved to the area recently and in comparison to where we lived before its easy to pick up on challenges in the area.Marjorie Dowrie (Strandfontein cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Because this is not a good initiative why cant they be moved to the leafy suburbsPasche Ludwig (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

It will have a serious impact on the safety and security of our neighborhood. Daytime roaming around from door to door. Our neighborhood and block watchers have a big enough task of keeping our communities safe from roamers. What's going to happen once they are here? They are not going to want to move and will seek formal housing here meaning that our informal settlement will increase.Evelyn Oosthuizen (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

This area is not suited for any type of accommodation. Not running water. Insufficient ablution facilities. No protection from nature's elements. The public services in this community is already struggling to service the current residents in the areaDenver Roman (Strandfontein (7788), 2020-04-02)

We are already over populated. We need a tertiary institution and not more people. As it is we already have 2 informal settlements in our area, not even taking the farm area into accountShahnaaz Taliep (Cape town, 2020-04-02)

I am signing not because i dont want to homeless people in the area but that is no condition to place humans in! Secondly why not place the people in a hall etc. Thirdly why was the community not informed about this i pay my rates and live here but have only heard about this move once they starting setting up. We already dont have enough police vans patrolling our arears now we are adding more numbers.Tanya Beukes (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I'm signing because who ever made this decision did not take into consideration the management of Occupational Health and Safety ito this vast of amount of people let alone a potential for spreading the virus. We will definitely have a serious legal case.Christopher Wyngaard (Strandfontein, 2020-04-02)

I do not want the homeless to be housed on our sports field when there are multiple other venues to pursue, our area is saturated with homeless people and the residents of Strandfontein hafe the burden to supply most of the families with food and essentialsAysha Swail (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I'm gatvol. And this is a dumb fkn idea. There are literally thousands of other areas that are more equipt to handle the future shit coming our way.i played soccer my whole life on that field and its crazy if theres 500 people on that field...just imagine!!! In signing because it's unfair that government always puts us coloureds in worst predicaments. We pay rates and bonds but that never get respected and the white class areas never experience any of this poverty population.Nicole Pinto (Strandfontein cape town, 2020-04-02)

We are overloaded with poor people at our doors already.

I'm signing cause here in Strandfontein government always come up the the temporary solution excuse, that's why here's still foreigners living behind us where they were dump by government a few years ago when zenephobia broke out. This is the worse thing to do in an area that's on the beautiful coast line, where tourists can drive along the coast line from Simon's town to Gordon's Bay. But putting these people in this area, would create an unsafe environment. We also don't have any ammunities to keep them busy.Shonti Abrahams (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

I'm a resident on Strandfontein and because of their human rights we will have a masive problem removing them after the lockdown period. This will negatively influence our comunity and increase drug traffickingEugene Ronney Cloete (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

Why strandfontein Sports field? We already lack proper sports facilities for our youth. Also this field is definitely not suitable for homeless people as it lacks proper services like clean water, ablution and not to mention the wind in that area. We are being milked for our taxes so why don't you find a place for them in the "leafy areas" where there is an abundance of suitable places for the 2000 to be accommodated. NO, NO, NO!Jane Johnson (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)

As a resident of Strandfontein Im not happy with 2000 homeless people moving to our sportsfield. The sportsfield is the ONLY RECREATION facility our children have here. Besides the field has no running water or toilets for those people. It is extremely cold on the sportsfield. People will end up getting very sick there.

As a resident, I was not consulted about this. There are other sports fields. This poses a MAJOR concern for our safety and security. Those people will loiter in our area, asking for food and whatnot and best believe some will burgle our homes or worse.Yusraa Samodien (Cape Town, 2020-04-02)
