I believe this program is extremely beneficial to our special needs kids. As the friend of a RMS school special needs student and aunt to two special needs kids in other CMS schools, I want to believe that our school system has our kids absolute best options available. I believe the parents, teachers and students of schools where change is proposed be able to express their opinions of any changes to programs that impact their students.(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

I'm a Randolph parent, a sister to two women with intellectual disabilities, and a disabilities services professional. Our society is better when people of all abilities are represented. Randolph would be a lesser school for this move. Thank you.(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

I believe in this program at Randolph which is a Magnet school.(charlotte, 2017-01-03)

these kids deserve it(winston salem, 2017-01-03)

My son was in this program for 4 years, and thrived. Was always in top 10 of class, and was on Honor Roll. Struggled in school, and fell behind, before going to Randolph's SAC class. Others need to experience same sense of achievement that my son was lucky enough to get from this class.(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

CMS is wrong to pull a fast one regarding this issue with children of special needs(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)
#218
I am signing because I am a SAC teacher at a different school but I have seen the changes in the students (both typical developing as well as the ones with special needs) when they spend time together.(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

When my son attended Randolph, working with the special education students helped him grow significantly. Diversity comes in many forms. Moving the program would be a loss for all of Randolph's students.(Charlotte, 2017-01-03)

I am singing this petition because its very sad that all we have dune to help people with special needs in school we are now taking away. I had two children in special education in Rochester NY. I know how hard I had to fight for them. My thought's and prays go out to all the parents of every parent who has to fight school districts who care more about a dollar than they do our children.(Rochester, 2017-01-04)

All aspects of diversity need to be taught to our feature generations and all children deserve the opportunity for such a valuable lesson.(Charlotte, 2017-01-04)

I am a former student of Randolph Middle School and was personally involved in the beautiful and rewarding buddy program with special education classes. This program flourishes especially at Randolph and other magnet schools because we have a more accepting and informed community in which both IB and special education programs intermingle in infinitely beneficial ways. It is also important to note that a diverse and informed community such as Randolph is a healthy and safe place for students with special needs to learn and flourish because students have the maturity and open mindset necessary for a healthy environment. This cannot be an experiment - the special needs program at Randolph is successful, and the futures of many children cannot be put at risk for financial or logistical purposes.(Charlotte, 2017-01-04)

My daughter served as a buddy for this wonderful program. The value is two-fold, one for the SAC children and two for those who experience the satisfaction of helping these children. Please keep this program going.(Charlotte, 2017-01-04)

There is no reason to move these children. They are getting excellent care where they are.(CARRBORO, 2017-01-05)

I'm signing because it is imperative that Special Ed stay at Randolph. The IB program has so many principles and core ideas that align with diversity, special needs and integrating with others unlike yourself. Special Ed and IB fit hand in hand and it is a benefit and a blessing for my children to be at school with other students who are different from them. They learn compassion, empathy, and inclusion, all valuable lessons that will lead them to become better people. Its a great benefit to everyone.(charlotte, 2017-01-05)
#266
I go to Randolph right now and everyday in the morning I go to help. Those kids make my day, I love having the opportunity to work with them. We have family friends with special needs as well. These children deserve the world and I love being with them.(Charlotte, 2017-01-05)

I was employed with CMS for nearly 20 years and worked at RMS from 1995-2015. The SAC program was there when I started. It has been lead by some awesome teachers/assistants that put their heart and souls into teaching those beautiful students. Helping most of them to be productive independent young people. Lots of them have returned throughout the years to visit. RMS has been home for the SAC program for longer than 20 years! Why change what has worked so well for so long.(Adelphi, 2017-01-05)
#290
My child was involved in this at Randolph as a peer to peer advocate An amazing program!(Charlotte, NC, 2017-01-05)

Just to show my support for a very special family.(Charlotte, 2017-01-05)
#292
I'm signing because it is essential that we meet the needs of all students in CMS to the best of our ability. Having students with disabilities within the same school as "typical" students is a benefit for both types of students.(Charlotte, 2017-01-05)

I'm signing because I know families that have been affected by not having this type of an educational experience for a special needs child.(Charlie, 2017-01-05)

I have a 21-year-old son with a learning disability who was served through CMS' Special Education department from Kindergarten - 4th grade before we left for the stability of private school due to two highly disruptive and contentious student reassignment changes within a four year period. I am grateful for the excellent Special Education services my son received while attending CMS and for the teachers and administrative staff who went above the call of duty to meet my son's special needs. My son is now a Junior at App State Univ. majoring in business after attending CPCC. When my son was first diagnosed at age 5 with a LD, I spent countless hours sobbing on my bathroom floor in the middle of the night thinking he'd never go to college. My son's high school experience was an absolute nightmare. There were times I wasn't sure my son was going to graduate. He started skipping school and refused to attend his own H.S. graduation ceremony. My son's college grades last semester were outstanding - for him. My son is unquestionably happy at App State and doing well socially and academically. My son finally feels confident in his ABILITY to succeed in life despite his life-long disability. Children with disabilities deserve stabilty in an environment that supports their family's unique challenges. Children and families deserve no less than this. My older son was served through CMS' Talent Development program for gifted students. Therefore, I don't believe in one-size-fits-all educational approaches since children are individuals with varying individual needs. Best wishes to families, teachers, staff, and students at Randolph MS with the courage and fortitude to advocate on behalf of other children with special needs as well as their own. I encourage you to read a recent story involving special education and the Houston TX public school system. It's tragic. Your voice matters. Speak up. Don't give up.Alicia Durand

I had the pleasure of working with Ben when I lived in Charlotte while attending college. It was amazing to watch him grow, physically and mentally, while I was there and has been extraordinary to watch him continue to grow even from far away. Special education is important in ALL our schools!(Shelby, 2017-01-06)

I'm signing this petition because diversity is here in all shapes and forms, whether people like it or not. This program allows students with special needs and those without to come together in a harmonic way. This program not only educates on acceptance, but it establishes an alliance between young people with an array of circumstances. This is impactful for all involved and improves community relations significantly. This is an asset, and skills such as empathy and understanding are life-changing things just as important as any core curriculum does in preparing these future leaders. You cannot put a price on this opportunity. Simply put: skills developed from programs such as this are what our future society will either be built upon or severely lack.(Charlotte, 2017-01-06)
#367

As a special needs mom, i understand the need to keep these programs close to home. Having SAC classes make the students of all types more compassionate and more understanding of a range of disabilities. Bussing/ transporting children with special need is difficult so please keep the programs local!(Concord, 2017-01-06)
#375
I have worked with the SAC kids and I love the program.(Charlotte, 2017-01-06)
#377
I participated in this program for 2 years and everything I saw was amazing. This program really helped the kids to be themselves and they came out of their shells. I volunteered on a daily basis 2 years ago and had a class with them 1 year ago and it was truly an amazing experience. It definitely affected me and changed my life and I know this is true for many others. Please keep the SAC program at Randolph. You'd be doing a disservice to many others by removing it.(Charlotte, 2017-01-06)
