NEW TENT RESIDENTS DURBANVILLE

Comments

#2604

It is unacceptable to have people loitering in our residential area, living in tents, and on the streets. If the problem is not eradicated it will just get worse. Cape Town is infested with people living on the streets and the streets are not a safe place for any human being.

Garcia Charmaine (Durbanville, 2022-07-18)

My child has to go to school and looking at what's happening across the road with all the tents and rubbish around its worrisome. The people staying there get naked and walk around there for all little eyes to see. Its unacceptable. Its just not fair.

It is a health and safety problem. The illegall tent dwellers are a threat to children and residents safety. They make a huge mess and are using very unpleasant language.

Marliza Bezuidenhout (Durbanville, 2022-07-18)

#2660

Informal land grabbing means there is a need for land to be allocated for tents and this use. It is a multi layered issue. Municipalities must act early on before it becomes a settlement. These people need access to water and sanitation. They bring with them theft, begging, inappropriate behaviour and filth t
hat lower property values. We, rate payers and property owners, need this situation resolved humanely, but quickly by our legal sysyem and Municipalities.

Its for health and safety reasons that I am signing up .It’s an open public space with a primary school along side it and there are no ablution facilities which results in an unhygienic environment right next to the school fence and even the area near the church

I have lived in Durbanville for the past 25 years paying rates and taxes for my property. I certainly do bot want the value of my property affected by people who make absolutely no contribution to the town and add to the increasing crime and vagrancy in rhe area.

This must stop immediately.

Deon Wessels (Durbanville, 2022-07-18)

#2734

We pay rates and taxes for our properties and we pay for sewage and refuse removal. It is our right as taxpayers to demand that these illegal squatters get removed. It's the governing body's fault that it has escalated to this point they should have reacted the 1st time it was brought to their attention

Beaulah Wilson (Durbanville, 2022-07-18)

As a manager of a health care facility in the area, I am experiencing daily complaints from distressed, vulnerable nurses(all females), that need to travel to utilize public transport. They are being threatened, sworn at, chased and even attacked by the vagrants in this Tent village. Please address this as a matter of urgency

Vanessa Scanlen (Durbanville, 2022-07-19)

Jenna Newton (Cape Town, 2022-07-19)

#2759

I agree with the statement above.

Further I believe all people should be treated with dignity which the current situation does not give.

The solution is to seek employment for the individuals living in these poor conditions and provide formal accommodation as a benefit.

A halfway house of sorts. I also believe that if a individual chooses not to agree to the terms to become a productive member of society they should not be allowed to enjoy the benefits of the community and be removed from it.

Gerald Heystek (Durbanville, 2022-07-19)

#2762

I support the removal of the tented camp in Durbanville. People should not be living in such conditions.

I paid hard-earned money for my property in Durbanville 36 years ago & have paid costly rates, water, electricity, sewerage, monthly ever since. Squatters do not pay anything and sully the suburb with litter.

Barrie King (Durbanville, 2022-07-19)

I am concerned about the safety and deterioration of Durbanville.

Sanita Bruwer (Durbanville, 2022-07-19)

This is not okay!! They need to be removed as it looks absolutely horrible. ALL informal settlements need to be banned as it's not about poverty - it's about being lazy and wanting everything for free. They have absolutely no respect for the area around them.

Bianca Smith (Cape Town, 2022-07-19)
