I'm signing because of my amazement at the foolhardy decision made by the council for not supporting local swim instructors. No conscience and no eye to the future of NZ for NZers.

Melanie BROWN (Gisborne , 2023-06-10)

#2404

I am passionate about youth learning to swim. I loved in Gisborne for many years and have family there.

#2415

We should look after our local community first.

Anna De Mouilpied (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2416

I dont agree that the pool training has gone to a world wide company when the council is always saying how everyone needs to support local and they cant even do that.

Mark Fretwell (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

#2417

My daughter learnt to swim with Comet and continued to compete. Our loyalty is with the locally owned swim school

Nicki Flaherty (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2418

I come from Gisborne. In an isolated city such as this it's a no Brainer that this should stay local.
Rochelle and the staff need this!
Keep it local, keep it where it's been forever.

Keep it local! Times are hard enough already!!

Jared Booth (Napier, 2023-06-11)

#2428

My child attends cometts learn to swim classes and have found the service amazing in the two years we have been going, disappointed to hear they have missed out in the contract for kiwa pools. Would have been a more suitable facility going forward for the classes. We will continue to support comet with our 2 year olds lessons and our soon to be 6 month old for water confidence. Disappointing outcome for council not to support this local clubs growth for learn to swim classes.

Gabrielle Ryan (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

Been involved in swimming for a long time and always support our regions clubs

#2434

Comet is local, loyal & great for our community.

Ashlee Tata (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

#2436

Why would the Council jeopardise an established Club that has been part of the community for many years benefiting local kids and families for an unknown entity with no affiliation to the community. Who made this decision? I want to know more.

GRESHAM Rachael (Gisborne/Hastings, 2023-06-11)

Ria Christensen (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

#2442

I believe this should be kept local

Jon Fey (Napier, 2023-06-11)

#2443

Comet has been a valuable part of the community my whole life, and support local people. Sending local money off shore when there is such a good alternative local is complete madness and shows how out of touch and delusional the council is.

Phillip Mills (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2445

I swam for HBPB for many year and I want to support Comet.

Rebecca Wright (Napier, 2023-06-11)

#2446

We need to support Comet and all that they have done. Don't send this off shore when you have a more than capable group there.

Clair Benson (Hastings, 2023-06-11)

#2448

Gisborne District Council should be supporting local. The LTS services at their new community facility, should be provided by the local community.

#2460

I want comet to remain teaching our children swimming lessons!

Hayley Dalton (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

#2462

You can garuntee a majority of gisborne residents have been through the comet programme at some point in their lives - weather as a swimmer or parent. Why take away something and give it to a company that doesn’t have the values like comet does. Would be very disappointed to see an Australian company take over a small family owned and oriented business like Comet.

Brooke Paulson (Auckland, 2023-06-11)

#2463

I 100% back comet and think it's terrible what gdc is doing!

Anna Fussell (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

Maria Wikström (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2472

I support Comet Swim Club giving back to their community, such important skills of swimming. Very wrong that this has been taken away from them to an offshore company.

Kirsty Johnson (Hastings, 2023-06-11)

#2473

I’m signing because I have been involved in Swimming in the HBPB Region for 50 years. Comet Swim Club are an ingrained institution in Gisborne and care passionately about the region and the people it. There is absolutely no way an Australian based large business entity would behave in the same way.

Leonard Kay (Hastings, 2023-06-11)

#2474

Comet have a proven track record of a successful learn to swim program here in gisborne. I think a locally owned swim club will understand the locals needs better, and I don't want the profits to go offshore.

Zoe Baty (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2475

I want GDC to support local enterprises

Lauren Sheldrake (Gisborne , 2023-06-11)

#2479

Comet do a fantastic job and this contract needs to stay local

Kellie Deans (Gisborne, 2023-06-11)

#2483

I believe this is wrong on so many levels. It should be a local swi scholarship but no let's ship more money off out of our region.

Rebekha Upston (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2486

Comet has been a corner stone for support and development of young and old in Gisborne. I believe the best way to support a community is employing local people.

Grace Jones (Hastings , 2023-06-12)

#2488

I support local business and think our council should too.

Casey Thomas (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2489

I'm fairly new to town, but I would be shattered if I had invested my livelihood into the local economy, improved one aspect of it to the point that Gizzy has now so many swimming accolades and a state-of-the-art facility----only to have all those benefits handed over to an international corporation. If a local business has proven time and time again (as is obvious by the massive support and following they have), give them the contract and the money and if they want to bring in some overseas expertise for certain parts of the coaching etc...let them be the ones making those decisions. Investing in community and valuing the talents and strengths of locals is important----at least give Comet a fair chance at Kiwa before deciding to bring in someone else.

Amanda Roe (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2490

I'm signing to support our local business Comets because they deserve to keep teaching our kids and generations after them.

#2497

We should always support local very say to hear that this is even been considered... and they do a great job.

Rebecca Bushell (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2498

The companies that have been using the exisiting Olympic pools should be able to use the new pools, keep it local! Plus they have been loyal and have put up with the bad condition of the pools for years now so it should be their right before an international company to have use of the new ones

Megan Damiris (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2502

A local well established and respected community organisation is very capable of providing these services, better that they get ratepayers money than the profits going out of the country.

Paul White (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2503

Comet is Gisborne and Gisborne is Comet. I’m proud born and bred here in Gisborne and want our kids to keep being taught by locals not overseas companies.

Gaylene Cramer (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2508

I think this should be a NZ provider, not overseas.

Karen Macky (Hastings , 2023-06-12)

#2510

I disagree with Gisborne District Council contracting an overseas company to deliver the learn to swim programme Comet has been delivering for years. My oldest 2 children learnt to swim in Gisborne 16-18 years ago with the Comet lesrn to swim programme. Comet is engrained in Gisborne. Acknowledge their service with loyalty.

Karen Busch (Napier, 2023-06-12)

#2511

Comet have done an amazing job with their learn to swim program and they have been working tirelessly for years for the kids swimming in Gissy

Fey Michelle (Napier, 2023-06-12)

#2513

This contract should have gone to comet swim club- shame on GDC

Jennie Harper (Gisborne , 2023-06-12)

#2514

I’m in full support of comet! Why put a company from outside our community in place. This is also bringing another company in to take the profits not only from our community but from comet also.
I learnt to swim with comment 26 years ago and my kids have been swimming with comet for the past 2 years. They have been providing an amazing service to our community

Analyse Vendt (Gisborne, 2023-06-12)

#2530

This is so unfair to our own tamariki.
Who payed for this? Yes us! !the rate payers ! Once again no one gets a say they just go ahead and do things like always.....Remember the Trieaty of Waitangi all you counselors......I will never support this pool everrr if this goes ahead.

Leah Stainton (Gisborne , 2023-06-13)

#2533

Because my daughter's attended Comet swimming ever since she was 8years of age & now she's 11years old & at Gisint. We need to keep Comet going for many many more years to come. Our swimming teachers here know our NZ waters. It's best if we keep Comet for our children. CSC was NZ (Gizzy) made & hopefully it stays that way for good.

Shonts Wanoa (Gisborne, 2023-06-13)

Nicki Dustow (Napier, 2023-06-13)

I cannot believe that GDC does NOT back its people - the "added benefits" given by the overseas company appear like "blankets and beads" mentality - so disgusted we can't support our community - SHAME GDC

Tracey Walker (Gisborne, 2023-06-14)

#2556

I want to support Comet as a local provider to our region and for the next generation

Colleen Vailea (Gisborne , 2023-06-14)

#2557

My kids are apart of the comet swimming whanau .

Trishelle Mikara (Gisborne , 2023-06-14)

#2558

I'm disappointed that GDC have awarded a local contract to an international company, besides the fact that profits go offshore. I refer to the following: gdc.govt.nz/council/news/learn-to-swim-contract-awarded-to-belgravia-leisure

Statements contained on the GDC website imply that this decision was about 'bringing extra value' to our community. How about empowering and supporting the Comet Swimming Club to do just that!
Added value as implied by Belgravia being: * free swimming lessons for 80 children in lower socio-economic groups. Really!? Many of our population are already in this "group"
so who determines which children receive these swimming lessons? If this was a point of difference between the applications, how, about having a discussion with Comet Swimming Club to implement this?
* Employ and train locals to deliver programmes - Implying that Comet Swimming Club WOULD NOT hire local? And again, Really?
* Full immersion Te Reo swimming lessons
- Once again, implying that Comet Swimming Club would not be able to provide this as part of their contract. Disappointing to say the least. Empower our local business!

Mags Giddens (Gisborne, 2023-06-14)

Roger Quinn (Gisborne , 2023-06-14)

#2561

I don't agree with GDC giving the tender for the Kiwa pools swim school to an overseas owned company when an excellent local business submitted a competitive tender. Our kids learnt to swim with Comet and they were absolutely amazing. Poor decision GDC!

Simon Gardiner (Gisborne, 2023-06-14)

Rachel Parker (Gisborne, 2023-06-14)

#2566

Much respect for Greg, Rochelle, and the team. My siblings and I spent many years following that black line up and down the pool under their guidance. They even came up to Tolaga Bay. Learnt a very important life skill that has helped me throughout my life especially living on the coast not to mention meeting heaps of really good people. They deserve better than this. All the very best.

Hana Parata-Walker (Gisborne, 2023-06-14)

#2568

I used to swim for comet and its such a shame to see the contract go away from local.

Ruth Edwards (Karratha, 2023-06-14)

#2572

Comet is a local business that knows the community and provides an awesome service that has helped and supported manyof our local families. Replacing them for a non local organisation is disappointing and out right wrong.

Chanel Kahaki (Gisborne, 2023-06-15)

#2573

I firmly believe the wrong decision has been made and local clubs and people not being supported. There has been a very weak excuse provided, so weak it doesn’t hold water.

Fiona Dixon (Gisborne , 2023-06-17)

#2592

GDC should be supporting local businesses. Comet is a loved and trusted swim school and caters fantastically to our local Gisborne community. We were looking forward to continuing our children’s swim lessons at the new pools. If Comet is not reconsidered then we will not be coming to the new Kiwa Pools for swim lessons. Please reverse your decision GDC.
