Support our local "Comet Swimming Club". Demand they review their decision to give our local "Learn to swim programme" to an International company.

Supporting local is incredibly important especially during the difficult times our locals are going through after all of the storms and natural disasters of the past 5 years & the rapidly rising living costs. We need to stick together.

Zoelle Heeney-Price (Gisborne, 2023-06-06)

#2009

Come on GDC you tell us all to support local, YOU DO THE SAME!!!!.How ridiculous that you get an Australian outfit to teach Te Reo to our locals.

Shane Cameron (Gisborne, 2023-06-06)

#2013

Swimming should be contracted to locals not an overseas company.

#2017

I'm signing because it's the right thing to do. My children who are now adults, were members of Comet Club. Comet provided invaluable training and support to our children in swimming. Their commitment and expertise have made a remarkable difference in their development as swimmers and as individuals.

Mary Anne Mere Waaka (Te Puia Springs, 2023-06-06)

#2019

Very Disappointed.

Amy Amess (Gisborne, 2023-06-06)

#2020

I am very disappointed in councils decision. Comet have been supporting the Gisborne community for years ,lets keep it that way.

Greig Foster (Mangapapa Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2022

I have swam through comet swim club my children have both swam through comet swim club. It's changed mine and there lives. I have learnt the basics of swimming and so too have my kids. Very important for a coastal township. Comet has been teaching swim lessons in Gisborne for years and years. Local for locals. Come on GDC. Whats going on!!

Karnisha Waru (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2025

the decision to not support the comet club that has provided this service to generations of people within our community is a disgrace and stands against everything our region stands for.

Bridgette Penny (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2026

I was a Swim for life instructor and my business Maioha Lifestyles , along with Comet, Water Wekas and Enterprise ran that contract together in its
inception and covered the whole of Tairawhiti. We worked collectively to provide the Swim for life programmes. I am really sad to hear that this will no longer be run by Comet, who carried on delivering the contract for many years after. Taking it out of the hands of Comet is morally wrong.

Simone Poi (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2031

I'm disgusted that the council decided to give the contract to an international company rather than keeping things local. Comet deserve to have the learn to swim contract!

Kelsey Griffin (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2032

I believe we need to support local

Danni Hunter (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2034

I'm signing because my family was a founding family with Comet and I have watched the club develop, help fund the Olympic pool & now my grandchildren are learning to swim with them

Penny Shaw (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2035

What happened to supporting local. Really disappointing news. My children swam with Comet and my grand children swim with them. This is intergenerational not international. Let's stop this move. Let's support local

Katie Tamanui-Thomas (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2037

Local clubs should be supported over international companies

Susanna Roberts (Opotiki, 2023-06-07)

#2038

GDC - Shame on you. Supporting an Australia com[any over a local group that has been doing the business of swimming for 65 years. SHAME ON YOU.

Les Thomas (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2040

I cannot believe the council would take this contract out of gisborne - away from comet who have done an outstanding job for the community

I’m appalled by this move and believe it should be revoked

It is logical that Local contracts should be employed to serve local facilities run by and for local communities paid for by local rates - none of this resource should be going out of the region let alone off shore

Grace Urale (Auckland , 2023-06-07)

#2041

Supporting local businesses

Paige Hindmarsh (Tolaga Bay, 2023-06-07)

#2043

There is no good reason to award this contract to an overseas company, when Gisborne has committed and experienced coaches who are already providing great service to the community. The decision as it is suggests GDC does not respect or value the town’s own businesses or people, and that they are not acting in the best interest of local economy.

Miriam Lawrence (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2044

I'm signing because I cannot believe the decision was made to award the contract to an outside provider given the outstanding dedication and contribution Comet has and continues to make.

Donald Niven (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2045

Keep it local

Natasja Paulson (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

Very capable locals being replaced by an overseas company? For why? People in Gisborne have been through enough.

Mary-Rose Reedy (Upper Hutt, 2023-06-07)

#2054

Keep Comet swimming Club!!! As a young Coasty boy growing up in Te Araroa, attending Comet SC lessons made a huge impact on my water safety awareness and confidence in the water. I would not have the ability now to do so had it not been for the support and care of Comet Swimming club and their staff.

Mahue Dewes (Te Araroa, 2023-06-07)

Leonie Brenchley (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2066

The Comet Swimming Club has been in Gisborne. My children participated with the learn to swim programme. Keep it local!

Laureen Kelly (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2067

Supporting our local swim team and coaches, shame on the council for awarding this contract to an outside company. If it wasn't for comet swimmers and coaches over the last few years supporting the Olympic pool us rate payers would have had to pay more to keep it operational if at all possible.

Michelle greeks (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2070

I strongly disagree with the GDC overlooking local provider Comet. If they value the region and the people in it they would have recognised when the tenders were close that Comet should have been awarded the contract.

Sue Ngārimu (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2072

Comet swimming club provides exceptional learn to swim lessons and as a home grown club, should have the capacity to operate out of the premiere pool.

Laura Quilter (Auckland , 2023-06-07)

#2074

I support comet.

Awhina White (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

Karyn Watson (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2090

I’m signing because of there is one thing we are - it’s a supportive community - we should support local - why wouldn’t we!

Emma Marino (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2092

I support this petition our Region swimming club Comet to continue to provide the swimming lessons for our District and that it is not ok GDC to give the funding and contract to another company/club who have not supported or done anything for our District and communities.

Mirianata Ruru (GISBORNE , 2023-06-07)

#2093

The council is being arrogant and forgetting what community they're supposed to be serving.

Mike Sanders (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2094

Absolutely unbelievable! How could GDC do this to our people to our community. I thought there beliefs were real, but are totally lost and need a wake up! Three of my children went through comet and I choose comet as they are the best in our
Community and put all into not only my children but the other children as well. This is absolutely wrong !! Behind you 💯 Comet! Do the right thing by the people and the community GDC!

Janie Keelan (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2095

I am signing because i believe that locals should come first. If they need to up their game then give them a chance to do that.

Peter Fox (Pa Harakeke, 2023-06-07)

#2096

I want to support the comet club I went their as a child and I want it to stay

Cody Wanoa (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2097

I'm signing because I believe in supporting locally. Comet Club bought the concept of covering the Olympic pool to Gisborne. They have provided successful swimming lessons to many children at Kuras, some funded some privately paid by parents with no discrimination. Language was not a barrier. For many years mainly by volunteers. My family and I have supported swimming in HBPB, over many years, as swimmers, and administrators. Your decision must be reconsidered.

Linda³ White (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2099

Comet is an incredible club that provides so much support to the Gisborne community for 65 years, allowing children from all backgrounds to learn to swim and feel comfortable in the water. Rochelle has put everything into this club and it would be devastating to see her hard work go to waste. Comet has and would continue to be the most authentic club in Gisborne, and everyone knows they bring much more value than an Australian company.

Tia Brown (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2100

Comets already have existing and long standing relationships with local iwi here in Gisborne and the Easy Coast. You should be supporting local businesses especially Comet which is "Not for profit" org.
The council decision not to support local but a new foreign profit driven swimming business is disgraceful.

Charlene Ratana (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2101

My kids learnt to swim at comet , local people teach our kids and I think it’s really sad that the council have taken this away from a local and legendary swim club

#2102

This is not acceptable. " for local, support local"

Saffron Eparaima (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2108

I don't agree with the changes.

Vicki Keogh (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2110

I believe the GDC has made a wrong choice. I support the Comets Swimming Club and I believe that they are best suited to deliver a quality service to the Tairawhiti region.

TeOraiti Bartlett (Tokomaru Bay , 2023-06-07)

#2111

I support Comet 100% who have a proven track record in our community. Having grown up in a swimming family I know how important intergenerational connections are made through these local clubs. The knock-on benefits of having locals for locals are invaluable.

Lynda Markie (Gisborne, New Zealand, 2023-06-07)

#2116

GDC have once again ignored the local community & Comet have the history of teaching our children & teaching them well.

Raymond Kitchen (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2117

I'm signing because I support locally owned business.

Akuhata Manuel (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

Current decision is a total betrayal against Beth Meads and Comet Swimming Club for the many, many years of dedication, commitment and aroha for our tamariki and whanau of Te Tairawhiti

Teresa Wilson (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2119

It's ridiculous to not support a local club! It's outrageous!!!!

Erica McLean (Taupo , 2023-06-07)

There is a perfectly good local solution and keeping things local is important in todays climate.

Jill Garrett (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

Abby Collier (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2164

This is a blow to Comet, local businesses and the community. GDC needs to support local businesses, not make it more difficult for them.... especially those that have been operating with history and strong ties to the community.

Pirra Tietjen (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2165

Comet would thrive even more holding their spot in the community within the new Olympic pool.
The amazing infrastructure being there in order to outsource to an overseas company is a real shame.

Anneleen Van Damme (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2166

I'm signing because our focus should be to support our local organisation's that have supported our community not some outside entity that does not understand the needs of our children or community

Michelle Tichborne-Hailey (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2168

Comet are local to Gisborne and loyal to our community. They deserve to continue teaching swimming in their hometown and GDC need to put aside "additional offers" made by an outside billionaire company and stay loyal to us locals, including Comet.

Ange Taylor (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2169

I don’t believe that due process has been undertaken, Comet’s past record should have made them the front runners for this appointment.

Waldo Horomia (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2189

Comet is local and has proven itself as a competent and very capable swim school time & time again and it is well loved by this community. GDC must review this decision and rven they says the decision was very close. To just drop a local and proven provider over an unknown untried international outfit shows a total lack of respect to the community you are paid by to serve and poor understanding of your role. Although you say this decision was made in line with your procurement policy, i am also keenly aware from working there of the lack of understanding of this process & competency amongst staff involved to properly assess tender applications. This decision was poorly made and should be reviewed immediately.

Michelle Ahern (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2197

This council is out of control, blowing our rate payers money on non essential things and hiring super expensive consultants for everything that they have to make a decision on. Ridiculous not creating job's with a local people to keep our economy alive.

Steve Watson (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2198

Comet are local and loyal to Tairawhiti. Been here 65 years and must taught someone in every family from Grandparents mokos.
So disappointing that they lost this contract. If there was very little in quotes. Stay and support local.

Kathy Reichenbach (Gisborne, 2023-06-07)

#2199

My Son is autistic and our family joined Comet to help with our son’s development and confidence. We were grateful that they took our child on board. And during our time we saw other local special needs children benefit from Comet’s service. The Comet staff and members were amazing. Because they are local, they have an understanding of our people, our place, our community. Its a shame for GDC to put $ ahead of the people. Rochelle and her team are amazing and have our community in their best interests. Lets keep it local.

Shaan Te Kani (Gisborne , 2023-06-07)

#2200
