End School Mask Mandates For Barrington Students

I want my daughter to have a normal, healthy school experience.

Masking never worked except to create extreme damage to the mental and physical health of our kids, who are at the least risk. Not to mention the important development delays. Adults are free to get vax and mask up if they are worried. Stop destroying our children to placate your fears. Make masking optional NOW!

Kira Richardson (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

Because every parent deserves the freedom to choose what is best for their kids.

It’s time these kids experience a normal education! These masks do absolutely nothing to protect against covid! What it is doing is damaging our children mentally and physically!

I have 3 (K, 3rd and 5th) young children in the Barrington school system, each one suffering from what we have put them through the last 2 years.

- 1 has never attended school without being in a mask. Has severe speech delays and is well below where he should be for reading.
- 1 child has such high anxiety she is afraid to leave the house and fights going to school on a daily basis.
- 1 child suffers from intense headaches / migraines and dizzy spells from the masks.
- All 3 of my children tell us how much they dislike school. At these ages, I remember loving school.

Our children are not at risk and are taking the political brunt of this. It's unacceptable and time to stop this abuse. I travel for work and it is truly eye opening to see other states entirely open. For example, AZ has NEVER had a mask mandate the entire 2 years. They look at us and think we're crazy that our children are in masks while the rest of society fills sports stadiums, eats at restaurants freely, attends concerts, workout in gyms, etc.

It has been clearly stated that this is an Endemic. These children need to build natural immunity. If parents choose to mask their children, not vaccinate, etc. that is their choice. We should not have to live by a mandate that does not make statistical sense. I live in data driven decisions for my profession but what we are enduring in a handful of states is not data driven. How can the rest of the country be free and we are still acting in a state of emergency.

The facts are that children are not at risk. They show little to NO symptoms. Put the power in the parent's hands on whether they want to mask or not. In fact, our pediatrician (in Barrington) stated that an overwhelming % of children have had it but we would never know because they don't have symptoms. What are we doing to these poor kids?

We have done our part. This has turned political and these decisions will have a ripple effect on our children for many years to come.

Other facts:
- anxiety and depression has doubled in children and adolescents
- the previous mean IQ score on standardized tests for children was 100 but for children in the pandemic it tumbled to 78
- 51% increase in suicide attempts among teenage girls
- weight gain of kids has nearly doubled across normal, moderate and obese
- and the most important fact remains, a child's risk of becoming ill or dying is the lowest %

It's time for us to do better for our children and give them back their childhood, and not live in fear. Parents & teachers are crying and fighting for your help. Thank you for your consideration.

These children have suffered enough and the negative consequences have been far more than the gains.

I believe in ending mask mandate.

I’m signing because my children should not be forced to wear masks in school. That decision must be made by families on their own as to what may be best for their own child.

I have 3 young children in the Barrington school system, each one is negatively impacted by the continued mask mandate. For example:
1 child has never attended school without a mask. He has severe speech delays and is well below the state reading level (i.e. two state policies are at odds with each other)
1 child suffers from daily headaches and dizzy spells from the masks.
All 3 of my kids tell me how much they dislike school and the largest part of their negative feelings has to do with the mandate
Two of my kids have lunch at their desks where they're not allowed to talk and must watch a movie. How is a movie helping their social or academic development?
Our children are not at risk and are taking the political brunt. The facts are that children show little to no symptoms when contracting the virus. Our family pediatrician (in Barrington) stated that an overwhelming % of children have had it but we would never know because they don't show symptoms. These kids have been through a lot, and sacrificed enough to give adults the chance to take the very effective vaccine. If some adults are choosing to NOT take a fully accessible vaccine, that is their choice and they need to live with the consequences.

The kids have done their part. This has turned political and these decisions will have negative effects on our kids for years to come.

Please also consider:
- anxiety and depression has doubled in children and adolescents
- the previous mean IQ score on standardized tests for children was 100 but for children in the pandemic it tumbled to 78
- 51% increase in suicide attempts amoung teenage girls
- weight gain of kids has nearly doubled across normal, moderate and obese
- and the most important fact remains, a child's risk of becoming ill or dying is the lowest %

It's time for us to do better for our children and give them back their childhood. Parents & teachers are crying and fighting for your help.

Once you lose the freedom of choice you are that much closer to losing freedom all together. The time is now for this to stop. We all must make whatever choice is best for ourselves, our families and our children. Those that want to continue masking can do so, that’s their choice. The irreversible harm this is causing to children is undeniable. Lift the mandates and control.

Andrew Resmini (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

I can go to the gym, within arm reach of another adult on a treadmill with no mask - but my kids are required to wear masks all day and sit in silence during lunch. Come on now . . . Its time.

We need to end masking !!!!

This decision should be made by parents and not by a government or school board. I support children masked and unmasked, I don’t support a mandate. I believe every family should be able to exempt their child if they choose to do so from wearing a mask. If a parent wants their child to wear a mask, in their absence the school should ensure that child stay masked at the request of the parents.

I recently moved from Tampa FL and the schools there are optional starting in 2021. When cases recently spiked, some parents started to send their children to school with a mask but that was their decision and no one else’s.

The local school board and government at large in the state needs to put trust in its people to make the best decisions. Rhode Island has already proved its point and kept masking mandates longer then many in the country.

No more mandates.

Our children are not receiving the education they need because of the effects of mask wearing in school. I have one child receiving speech and dictation while wearing a mask, and I do not believe that to be effective. My other child has severe anxiety and it has only increased since he has started wearing masks non-stop. Please stop. Let us make our own decision.

Laurel Gibbons (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

I am signing because I feel we need to stop making our kids wear masks while at school. At this point it should be by choice.

Michea Kiely (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

My children have immunity and are vaccinated. They have lost social engagement with their peers and teachers due to mask wearing. It has been detrimental to their learning, self-confidence and familiarity with others.

The children have been failed by so many people during this pandemic. Stop putting politics ahead of common sense. Stop masking the children!!!

Corey Goglia (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

I’m signing because this is past due. Our kids need to be free.

Chris Hughes (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

Evidence is inconclusive that masks reduce positivity rates. Emergency measures are only meant to be temporary. This has gone far too long.

It's time to end masks in school or give parents the right to choose to mask their children. Enough is enough. Learning to eat lunch in complete silence is ENOUGH.

Megan Coleman (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#73

Enough is enough. Let’s follow the scientific data that proves that surgical masks do almost nothing to stop aerosol transmission of an aerosol pathogen - as proven by the omicron variant.

Let our children breathe and smile and giggle and watch their friends emotional expressions as depicted in their face.

Anna Amoiradaki (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

I believe that the masks do not work and they are only gonna cost more social issues from my children. And all children; Time to get back to normal

Rob Flaherty (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#86

It’s time to bring normalcy back to our Childrens lives, who have been unfairly victimized throughout this pandemic. We have an extremely high vaccination rate (which we now know did not “stop” the spread) and we need to now adapt to this next phase accordingly and with compassion for the kids and educators. Enough is enough, let’s please bring back the power and privilege of personal choice. Thank you.

I am concerned about the educational, social and mental tolls on our children from wearing masks all day in school.

Julie Sanfilippo (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

We have reached a point where we have to ask what poses the greater risk to our children... a disease that has shown to have a minimal effect on them or mandates that hamper their social, emotional, and academic development.

Erika Twohig (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

The “science” has been clear about masks and kids for over 18 months and it’s about time we aligned schools accordingly and stopped enabling fear and anxiety for out kids.

My children are losing their childhood. One of my daughters is on an IEP for speech and has fallen severely behind with speech progression and phonics.

Jennifer Horne (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#114

Enough is enough. Anyone who wants the vaccine has the ability to do so. You already fired the unvaccinated teachers. This is endemic. It’s frightening to think about the long term anxiety as well as developmental and social impediments that will arise from these foolish policies.

Michael Horne (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#119

Face masks do nothing to prevent the spread of COVID. Especially in young children where there is a minuscule chance of them contracting this. It also interferes with their learning and developing social skills. Please stop!

Masks are causing my kids distress and has delayed my 3 year olds speech. It should be the choice of the parent. Please make masks optional!

Allison Williams (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#141

I believe in freedom it is my choice as to whether I wear a mask or not and it’s wrong to force onto kids who have not been provided with all the information to make their own personal decision about it’s purpose and effectiveness and on top of that if we all eat lunch together without masks inside because it’s winter then how is wearing it in class gonna stop anything and for all of those who have been standing up for themselves this whole time the constant teachers asking us to pull them up disrupts the entire class if I yelled out of no where in class i would be yelled at why can they stop teaching to get your mask pulled up when it’s another person that can make that decision for them self

Robbie Sholes (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#144

I’m signing because masks don’t work and it’s only weakening our immune system and if you want to wear it you can but I don’t believe it should be mandatory to wear one.

Graham Vatter (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#156

Requiring our masks on our children in school needs to end.

Enforcing the mask policy seems to have taken priority over the education our kids receive. We are now in the endemic phase. It is time to restore the school environment we once had. One that is more conducive to learning, one that will allow them to interact socially in the way they were meant to.

John Tuttobene (Barrington, 2022-02-09)

#160

Kids need to be kids. They need to learn expressions facial ques. have the ability to run and play with friends without the stress and worry forced on them to have their mask on. Our kindergarten daughter only likes nice days at school because they have snack outside. If snack and lunch is inside its quiet time and they cant talk because their masks are down. No 5 year old should experience this. It is causing a generation of anxiety filled kids. They have proven they are not effective and should be optional for the parents who wish to make their kids wear them...Not all kids should suffer though.

Nick Kyriakos (barrington, 2022-02-09)

These masks do absolutely nothing to stop the spread of Covid and are killing our children, their development and especially their mental health, coping skills. Alienating people is the first step for Socialism

For the Children: I am not signing this because I think children should immediately stop wearing masks in school. Instead, I believe that this is an important conversation that needs to take place. The decision needs to be data driven, not political, but it needs to look at ALL the data. The social emotional impact on children is an example of one important piece of data. As is the impact this would have on our friends and families in the medical community. Both sides of this debate are mired in rhetoric, but that doesn’t mean the issue shouldn’t be discussed.

For the Adults: We all relinquished substantial personal rights – temporarily – in the interest of protecting our community. We need to begin this conversation.

For the Willingly Unvaccinated: You are selfish. Ignorance is not a defense.
