No Mask Mandate for Mariemont City Schools: Let The Parents CHOOSE!

This is not anti-vax or anti-mask, it’s about allowing the parents to make decisions for their own children.

If a parent or child feels more comfortable wearing a mask, then by all means do. If they feel they work effectively, then it shouldn’t matter whether my child wears one or not. I’d like to see more of a discussion around living a healthy lifestyle - encouraging exercise, healthy diet, sunshine, drinking water, etc. All of these things will help us all have a good immune system to fight off this and the future mutations of this and other viruses. These viruses have been around for decades and are not going to disappear, so to me a discussion on keeping our immune systems strong is more effective.

Parents should make decisions for their children.

Each family should have the right to do their own research and weigh the pros and cons of wearing a mask. Only individual parents can be the experts in the needs of their children.

The mask mandates are NOT based on science. There is no scientific evidence for the continuation of mask mandates in schools or anywhere for that matter. Furthermore, we now know that masks wearing amongst school children is damaging to their mental and physical health.

I ask that our school board take these FACTS into consideration when making their decision on behalf of our children. Give the parents and children the right to choose; after all that’s what this great country is all about, FREEDOM of choice.

Please let parents decide what is best for their children. Please allow the teachers to focus on the students, teaching and building a strong classroom community, not mask wearing! Thank you!

The risk of death from COVID-19 for this age group is less than that of the flu. I believe these masks instill fear, limit nonverbal communication, have a negative impact on seeing the teacher clearly, and limit collaborative learning opportunities. I think masking these teens is preventing them from being exposed to germs that help their immune systems develop. These kids need access to fresh air so they are alert and ready to learn. As a parent, I feel the decision to wear a mask is up to me. Please allow the parents of this community to make these kinds of decisions for our families. Thank you.

A mask mandate is medically unnecessary, morally wrong, and abusive of children.

Aaron Szymkowiak (Mariemont, 2021-08-13)

I believe it should be a persons own choice Whether to wear a mask or not simple as that

Masks are unneeded when covid has a lower then 1% death rate and probably over half of the students have the vaccine. It’s unneeded and just annoying at this point.

We believe it is the parents’ job to risk assess for their children. They should choose mask or no mask.

If you believe a mask helps your child, wear one! No one is preventing you from wearing one. No one is taking away your right as a parent to make the decision for your child (ren). Stay in your lane and control your household, do not come into mine and tell my family what to do.

I believe in liberty, freedom, and personal choice. Never mind the glaringly obvious negatives that masking children poses! My kids will not be wearing masks at school.

The district is overwhelmingly vaccinated, and school proved it can handle any cases that pop up.

Covid variants will be around for years. Are we to mask our school children at every new variant outbreak? Stop the mandatory mask madness now!

There is no clinical rationale nor scientific data to justify mask usage in children.

Jason Hurt, MD (Cincinnati, 2021-08-14)

My kids have more of a chance to die from a lighting strike then to die from COVID.

I know a group in Mariemont is getting signatures to try to get a mask mandate, but my response is if they are concerned then they should get their kids a n95 mask and their kids are "safe". Do not take the parent's choice away on this for what's best for their own kids. Covid is never going away just like the seasonal flu. We shouldn't treat it any differently. A litteral 1 in a million chance of my kid dying from covid far better odds then so many other things we don't try to protect from.

John Lawson (Mariemont, 2021-08-14)

I believe it is a families right to decide what’s best for their children.

Jill Mehl (Mariemont, 2021-08-14)

We have 4 children in the district and 100% support parents choice when it comes to masks. Our kids have been in district buildings for summer camps without masks, July 4th celebrations, Mariemont Rec sport events, Village Pool, and countless sleep overs and birthday parties all summer without masks.

The data is clear, more children average around 850 die each year from the common pneumonia than Covid. Since the start of Covid 345 children under the age of 17 have died. That is out of 600 + thousand Americans who have lost their life related to COVID.

So if the thought process is protecting children, then why have we not been mandating masks protecting children for decades?

Not to mention anxiety and other issues mentioned. Our 1st grader has speech issues and the masks seriously hamper his ability to form sounds and letters.

Frank Marzullo (Mariemont, 2021-08-14)

I believe it should be a choice. We need to not only consider the virus, but also the mental well-being and emotional development of our children. Facial expression and human interaction are important too, and given how rare it is for a child to have severe complications from COVID, I believe each family should have the right to choose.

Ryan Faehnle (Cincinnati, 2021-08-14)

I’m signing because the “science” behind the masks is ludicrous. The Navy has forced us to wear them 24/7 again (I work 12 hour days) and I don’t want my younger brother to be subjugated to the same misfortune.

Audrey Venderbush (Oklahoma City, 2021-08-14)

#148

I’m signing this because people should be able to decide what’s best for their children. If you want to wear a mask then wear one no one is stopping you but don’t force other people to wear one just because you still feel unsafe. I had to go to school with masks and it makes it very hard to connect with people and talk to them. Sometimes it was hard to follow along with a teacher who was standing up in the front of the room teaching because I couldn’t see their face. Even though I graduated in May I don’t think my brother and my underclassman friends should have to deal with this again. There are more illnesses that have a higher death rate among our age group than covid.

Jill Venderbush (Cincinnati, 2021-08-14)

#150

It’s your choice.. if you want to wear one go ahead, if you don’t than don’t. Freedom of choice!

Kelly Zobrist (Cincinnati, 2021-08-14)

I believe we need to follow the science which does not support the effectiveness of masks. Also, the damage done, especially to younger children, by not being able to see facial expressions is huge.

Susan Venderbush (Terrace Park, 2021-08-14)

Julia Rubin (Terrace Park, 2021-08-14)

There is no scientific evidence to support the efficacy of masking, and ample scientific evidence that masking causes harm, especially to children. Moreover, children are at virtually zero risk of mortality from covid. Compulsory masking of children is a violation of their civil liberties and a usurpation of the authority of parents.

Shane Tritsch (Terrace Park, 2021-08-14)

#173

I’m signing because I am genuinely concerned about the mental health of my children. I have two with an autoimmune illness that can cause sensory issues and they struggle with masks, severely. My youngest absolutely hates school because of the masks. He was in kindergarten and loving school, when covid hit. Now, he’s entering into second grade and shakes and cries at the mention of school. My bigger concern to covid is their mental health. Please let the parents decide what is best for their child. If you are worried about covid, mask up.

Tracy Feightner (Cincinnati, 2021-08-14)

It would be premature to have a mask mandate with the existing cases in Hamilton County for ages < 18. If the risks get significantly higher consider it then, not now.
