I'm unsatisfied with the high hpcsa fees stipulated for Optometrists(Park Rynie, 2020-03-04)

We cannot afford an increase every year when our earning capacity as Optometrists is not increasing. Furthermore with the increased number of Optometrists the pool has increased. Surely this should subside the individual amount required per practitioner.(Kwa-Zulu Natal, 2020-03-04)

I feel like we are being robbed in daylight!(Durban, 2020-03-04)

#31
After 35 years of paying more than other health care professionals I have not seen any improvement to services rendered in the public sector especially in the rural areas. Also optometrists should be allowed to dispense medication to common anterior segment problems.(Durban, 2020-03-04)
#33

#70
The fees are a total rip off. Way to high. Just a few Rands less than a specialist. Why are we almost in line with GP fees who are Dr's and we have specialists fighting us on therapeutics which we won't even be paid more for. The whole optometric system is such a flaw.(Pretoria, 2020-03-04)
#71
The annual fee needs to be reduced.(Johannesburg, 2020-03-04)
#76
Optometrists are asked to pay fees of R2470 (2020 rate), almost as much as General Practitioners (R2500 (2020 rate)) who have the title of 'Doctor' before their name, and are placed in a much higher income bracket as compared to Optometrists. Our aim, as Optometrists practicing in South Africa, is to call on the HPCSA to comfortably reduce these exorbitant rates for Optometrists as our income as primary eyecare practitioners does not, in any way, match that of a General Practitioner, nor are we given the title of 'Doctor'.
(Berea, 2020-03-04)

I agree whole-heartedly. I can't understand why there isn't a somewhat standard fee structure for all professionals across the board.(Durban, 2020-03-04)
#84
I also concur that the fees we pay are much higher then other Allied health workers I work in the public sector and is seen and grouped as a allied worker by DOH so I do not understand why I pay fees equivalent to those of Drs when my salary is reduced to half if not less(Durban, 2020-03-04)
#87

I struggled a lot with Hpcsa fees when I worked for the department of Health, could not cope with basic financial needs due to the low salary which is the same as that of a clerk which only needed a Grade 10 to be at that salary level, I still had to pay hefty Hpcsa fees, my manager, a registered nurse with only one year certificate on opthalmics earned a salary 4times that of mine but only paid R400 with nursing council annually. Now I'm in the private sector, better salary but still, this rate for optoms get underpaid even by medical aids is just unfair.(Richards Bay, 2020-03-04)
