Petition to urgently fix malfunctioning high mast lights/ streetlights

To: MMC’s for Energy and Community Safety  

We, the undersigned residents of Reiger Park, urgently request that the municipality takes immediate action to repair and replace malfunctioning high mast lights/ streetlights in our area.  

Background: Numerous high mast lights/ streetlights in our community are currently nit functioning, posing a significant risk to public safety, particularly at night. This has resulted in:

1.    Increased crime and vandalism

2.    Reduced visibility, leading to accidents and injuries

3.    Fear and anxiety among residents, especially vulnerable populations (elderly, children, and solo travellers)  

Requests:

1.    Immediate assessment and repair/replacement of malfunctioning high mast lights/ streetlights.

2.    Priority attention to areas with high crime rates, schools, public transportation hubs, and pedestrian crossings.

3.    Regular maintenance schedules to prevent future malfunctions.  

Supporting reasons:

1.    Public safety is a fundamental right and responsibility of the municipality.

2.    Functional high mast lights/ streetlights deter crime and promote community well-being.

3.    Timely repairs will prevent further deterioration and costly replacements.   

Conclusion: We urge you to take immediate action to address this critical issue. Functional high mast lights/ streetlights are essential for our community’s safety and quality of life.
